  • Superb video! One of, if not the best I've seen on youtube! 5* and fav'd! Truely awesome! Love the steam display and whistles of Tangmere!

  • With mighty Ingleboro' & Wernside what a site!!! Sincere thanks to all those who let us share their steam clips. Just superb, no words can express (pardon the pun) this majestic sight.

A special tribute must be made to all those who spend their precious time preserving the UK rail heritage... you are all hero's. As they say here in Australia 'Good onya mate' This clip brings back so many memories of walking these hiils with the imposing Ribb/viaduct as the back-drop. Lump in the throat stuff.

  • Whats all this 'Lump in the throat stuff'

Just remember your British, where ever you are. You must maintain the 'Stiff upper lip' at all times. Its dashed bad form, old chap, to let ones side down.

Kindly dont let this lapse occur again! LoL.

  • Fab Love the bit on the viaduct ( with the zoom in ont the 2 cabs ) Bullied driver '' Sorry mate .. was I 'sposed to have released the brakes earlier ? '' Ok I'll give you a shuve '' :-)

  • thanks that was so blood brilliant thanks loved it

  • When u zoomed right out, what a spectualer sight to behold

  • Loved it. How come the Mogul is doing all the work? It is not as if a Bullied Pacific is EVER short for steam!

  • 1 word. WOW

  • very very nice vid to sit back and wacth 5*

  • Brilliant, just Brilliant!!!!

  • Brilliant, just Brilliant!!!!

What can I say, except, My pleasure Poosmate.

  • Absolutely Magnificent!!

  • Your not wrong, redoubtable.

I understand my clips have lead to a lot of people visiting this location and others on the S & C. It is just to awesome.

  • Look through some more vids and tell me how many you see blowing off,as you put it,loads of them, fill the boiler too full then it starts priming, and until youve done the job, dont talk out your rear end(have you read it somwhere)

  • "Feathering",isn't it?ye I have only read it tho..!

  • Why the aggression? Its just a video clip. You could hardly be accused of being a well adjusted member of society. If your such an expert on firing, why not volunteer your services to Ian Riley!!!

  • Could you do better?Done it yourself,i would say no,as its unavoidable at times, more so double heading on those gradients. And Tangmere wasnt using much steam at the time

  • Mr Riley doesn't employ 'AMATEUR' firemen.

  • Great clip this, and i've just noticed something, watch the standards exhaust stroke at 7:08, thats a crcking smoke ring, rarely filmed! Very well done!

    Matt.

  • very good A+++++++++ 100% what day and year was this

  • Awesome that is, really ace....

  • lovely pair of engines. You also have a nice view their too.

  • nice videoing!.. nice they stopped then had to start again!

  • Jeez. You guys across the sea call that a salute? A tribute would be the sounding of the whistle at the least.

  • Great railway, the Settle to Carlisle- I travelled it in 1986 when it was due for closure. Thank God it was saved- it is a monument to 19th Century engineering.

  • 'jeez' i guess you guys across the sea dont know how to turn the speakers up, there is a loud and quite poignant whistle at 5:12. A minutes silence is actaully very respectful in my eyes, and a whistle is a good way of ending it.

  • make that 5:35 but the sentiment remains

  • Awesome video, well done

  • Awesome good railfan video.

  • why did it stop on the bridge for??? plus was that tangmere

  • That train stopped for a moment's pause, as a mark of respect to the memory of a railwayman who had died; a fitting way to commemorate his life I would think.

  • Try reading 'about this video' Broomboi & yes it was Tangmere.

  • Steamy affair across Ribblehead r

  • fairy odd lol, or an odd couple would be better way of putting it lol

  • fantastic i was there that day watchin the train take water at appleby two splendid engines (also have tangmere nd 4mt on my train set)

  • Nice to see the little guy (4MT) was doing all the work!

  • Nothing new there then.

Mr Riley was saving the BULLEID for the southern runs

  • Cool days=Long Lasting Steam, Sweet Audio @ the largest stone bridge I have ever seen = A 5 star run!

PS you guys really need to plant a tree somewhere around there it looks like.. well... Wyoming, USA-LOL

  • You mean we got something bigger in Britain than you you got in America, well I'll go to the foot of our stairs, LOL. Good day to you SKIPW, I still love your Earth Shakers. Hugh.

  • hah i do wear glasses, it's just that from far away it looked american built because the headlight was in the center of the smokebox. and as you probably know. american locomotives had headlights in the center of the smokebox door.

  • Not all American steamers had the lights in the center of the smokebox: Pennsylvania RR was one such one.

  • the lead locomotive looks american built.

  • I can lend you some glasses if you like, LOL.

No, seriously, it is a STANDARD CLASS 4MT, British designed and built following nationalisation of the railways in the 20th century.

  • Splendid! Best 9 minutes of this morning (which included early-morning sex)!!!

  • Too much information pighogger, LoL.

    Lucky you!

  • 76079 and 34067 seem to go round alot double heading, do they have a partnership or both preservation groups have good partnerships

  • They are both owned by the same person, Mr Riley, of Riley & son, locomotive engineers. Based at Bury.

  • What a pity that the fireman on Tangmere was not able to prevent it blowing off like that...

  • Your nit picking my friend. Its little nuances like this that make us train spotters day, Agreed?

The problen of coarse is, as anyone who has fired a loco on the LONG DRAG knows you need a full head of steam whilst climbing the 8 or 10 miles from Settle and then theres a slack on the viaduct which results in a surfeit of steam. But doesn't it look good?

  • Yes maybe nit picking but 76096 didn't have the problem did it??

  • Ralph, think positive!!!

Anyway these southern & western locos were't built for the rigors of the LMS. CITY OF WELLS slipped to an ignominious halt in the Stainforth Gorge some years ago, you may remember.

  • well said Hugh, exactly how it is

  • When was this filmed?

  • Its a couple or 3 years a go, the tribute on the viaduct was to Brian Pickering the owner of 'TANGMERE'

  • Thanks.

  • Pity about the noisy people nearby.

  • Yes, even in this otherwise remote location, you cant get away from them.

  • simply awesome....how majestic
