The credit freeze and loan defaults are both causing rapid contractions in the money supply. Furthermore, banks are lending less, so the money supply cannot expand that way. The US govt is desperately trying to maintain the money supply from imploding by borrowing like mad, but it cannot borrow enough to fill the gap, so the money supply contracts and the economy is collapsing rapidly because suddenly nobody has money to spend.

Just a side note George, I work for an Indiana Casino and the State has threatened to shut down all non esstential State Services ie The Indiana Gaming Commission.

My employer has sent out emails for us to contact the Govenor to get the budget passed or all the Casino's in Indiana will be shut down after next Tuesday. Fortunely I am going on Vacation next week so if they do shut down I'll spend all my time contacting my State Reprenstives to get off their collective ass's and do something.

Yep, got a generator after last winter's ice storm that knocked power out for 1 million in this area for a week. Took VisionVictories advice and got some of those MayDay Bars. They are very dense, my kid gave me a double barrrel shotgun. Got a water purifier & been buying gold & silver on eBay.

I am going to suggest to my employer, a "Casino" to start exchanging gold and silver for casino chips. ie basicaly starting to train the cashiers to know the spot price etc.
