This seems to be a land of changelings and fairy creatures. Ergo I would make a warped version of Grimms Fairy tales, Alice in Wonderland and things that would be based on forgotten gods of the polytheistic pantheons. I would also change the fricken portal! The portals purple should be a dark green and the area around it should have mossy trees and shrubbery that grows around it. And you light it with a mushroom on fire.

I guess a vampire scene could work for the mood of the mod, but maybe it doesn't have to be something killer-ish, or scary at all. It could just be a jungle...? Bambi? Considering there are deer... But I don't think it matters... Some other suggestions are probably better than mine xD
