I was there going into 9th grade, Spectrum with my first squeeze......unforgettable on many fronts. Now I own 9 guitars, 53 years old and rockin like a teenager...bless you all for knowing the key to youth.. our little secret huh??
@thgraham57 you are a legend wish i could meet ya sounds like you got some grear storiesand knowledge,ya aint that old yet im 36 last of the atari and playin stickball gen ,if i had this tech when i was younger i would of been a whale kinda glad i didnt
i saw this show in 72. i saw 'em on the 69 tour too.. they closed with this song and it was before "exile" was released. it was amazing. ft worth convention center. don't know how many times i've seen 'em since but the 69/72 shows were the best. just a straight up pure R&R band! KLAUSICK!
This song defined rock. The stones made so many good songs but this one is extraordinaire. The sound, the beat, the swing, the feeling, the groove, the slow, the tempo, This song combines it all. In a rather loose and open way.
im sorry but street fighting man and cant you hear me knocking are superior to this as far as the compositional aspects in your comments go. this is still good though. just not the best.
i agree with you dugitoni, i've been listening to this since it came out, i remember bying the 45 single from my local record shop in my last year at school!
Fuck this song slides and glistens with the stone's lurch that i just never stop loving!
perpetual motion groove, universal folklore descending pentatonic riff, creative arrangement of blues structure, interchangeable call and response, it's like they've taken all the elements of music, popular or otherwise, stirred and shaken, and then produce the best song of all time. I've been listening to it nearly 40 years and I just never tire of hearing it. They found the primeval beat, the subconscious groove of life and produced a timeless classic. Thanks for posting this version.
@dugitomi You hit the nail on the head. I'm only 20, been listening to it for four years at least once every week if not every day. I'm glad hardly anyone my age knows it. This will always be my favourite song...especially the direction music is going these days. The end gets me every time, slowly building up to absolute rock and roll bliss. As you said, timeless.
@salgoudsamoht Thank you, my brother. I have never been disappointed by this one in all of the Stones shows I've been to over the last 29 years. They ALWAYS put a new twist on it and ALWAYS play it well. Love this song, love this band. Will die loving them.
@dugitomi Love your analysis of this song. I've been listening to it forever too and never grow tired of it. It's a universal timeless groove that taps into something so deep it feels like a force of nature. I want to hear that riff on into eternity, celebrating life all the way...
@TumblingDice66 yes, riffing into eternity. that's a beautiful thought, to be gliding across the cosmos on the backbeat of Mr. Watts, propulsion of Mr Wyman, solar splendor of Mr/ Taylor's shimmering solos, the cogent commentary of Mr. Jagger, and of course, the steady grpove of Mr. Richards, keeping it all together and knowing exactly how we're getting there. Where we are going is never as important as the way we get there. Yeah, I'd go along for that ride, such a great way to see th universe.
@dugitomi very true, it just rolls along, all lazy guitar stabs & with a rhythm that just makes you want to move. Until recently i had only ever heard the stones do this live (from around 1990 - present) and the tempo that they play it is just wrong as it kills the groove so i never really bothered to check out the original , but when i heard it in its original form i think it sounds so good.....
gotta loove the guitar!
