The c-section rate is rising rapidly, does that mean that babies r having more difficulty being born naturally or that women are no longer able to birth naturally in ever greater numbers. Maybe hospitals are coercing women by telling them their babies are gonna die if they dont have one. The need for an emergency c-section does occur but not in the numbers we are seeing. We are seeing more & more women who were told they needed a c-section when, in fact, they went on to birth naturally & safely.
I have had 2 Unassisted births, and am planning my 3rd. My firstborn was 2 weeks late, facing up, and I was told I HAD to have a C-Section. Wrong. Short, pain free delivery. My Son was almost 3lbs bigger, and his labor and delivery was less than 2 hours, with NO pain again. Hospital births are NOT for everyone.
I am sure that you had a good experience with a completely natural at home birth. I however did not have that as an option because I believe in being at a Hospital for the birth, in case medical needs arise. To top that, I had an emergency c-section with a 9lbs 7 ounces baby boy, because he and most likely myself would have died if I didn't. I wish I was able to give birth vaginally, but it saved our lives. I appreciate that I was "Gutted Like A Fish!"
I've heard at two stories from woman who PLANNED a UC, only to have a c-section because something was wrong. Of course there are times where a cesarean is necessary, but not nearly over 30% of the time.
Women are being scare-mongered into having unnecessary c-sections and interventions by doctors, midwives, family, strangers etc. I've had 2 unnassisted births but my first was a hospital birth where they just treated me like dirt and I had a hard, long labour.
Excellent, Jenny! Thanks for helping to dispel the myths surrounding the safety of hospital birth. Very few people realize that every 15-20 minutes a baby is stillborn in an American hospital. This is double what it was 10 years ago. I believe the increase is primarily due to the increase in inductions, c-sections and other interventions. Birth has been designed beautifully, and all we have to do is allow it to unfold in its own time and own way.

My son would not be here today had it not been for c-section, I'm truly happy for you doing it naturally, however sometimes it's just necessary.
Get over yourself.
