Mate, can you explain manual controls? I understand what they do and stuff but are you saying that if you're on manual, you can wack the ball significantly further than you could on assisted?

@Rewnskeyp See my Manual Movement Series for more info but I'll explain in this case. When you use assisted controls and press the pass button, the game will try and pass to a player, regardless of where you aim and how much power you put on. If I was on assisted, he would have just tried to pass the ball to Moussa who is way up the pitch. On Manual the game won't "correct" my aim/power for me at all, so I just hit a full power long pass aimed at the goal. And fortunately, it went in.
