Yeah, one of the problems is that he's inprented on me, why he's looking at me as his partner. It was a faulth from my side to raise him without keeping distance. I've just raised him in my room for 3 years where he could fly free and sleep with me. Now after 4 years he's living in an aviary, but I don't find it big enough for two. Still have planning for a big flying ren when I move to a bigger house and garden. I take him out every day for flying in the garden.
@Laroena I have been trying to get information on them but it is a very hard subject for most here for like I said it is not allowed to have one without licenses from Government. Some are knowledgeable but not willing to discuss for that reason alone. Very disappointing to say the least. I have heard that they can be very clean where they live but are they that way in the house? Can they be messy? I have had many birds before ( Macaws and Cockatoo's) and am not adverse to the mess LOL

Hi, indeed, that's the plan for in the spring when he gets a bigger aviary. But it still is no garanty that he's gonna accept the female, but it should be nice and better because I can't stay 24 hours with him, so I hope that this should work.

I had Brego from when he was just a chick and he's born in captivity. It's beautifull to see how barn owls in the wild live there own life, so enjoy from it. A wild grown up barn owl isn't gonna love you and you, but maybe accept you as watcher. They have there mates. Brego is seeing me as his mate, that explains the connection between us. And if I say that he see's me as his wife, then I mean with everything on it, so also in the mating time he tries to mate with me for months
Yeah, you don't know much about owls I guess :) And also not about the starving population in nature. But okay...think your way, but one hint : read a book about falcorny ;)

Hangt er een beetje vanaf wat je ze wilt geven ;) Zelf vind ik er elke dag mee werken toch een minimum noodzaak, zodat hij zijn vleugels kan strekken en jou al minstens linkt aan het voedsel.
Een kerkuil is de gemakkelijkste uil in omgang en best geschikt voor een beginner :)
Dat terzijde ligt het bij Brego en mij nog anders. Onze vriendschap is op puur partnerschap gebouwd en niet op basis van voedsel. Let wel, ik offer dan ook heel veel op voor hem, al sinds mijn veertiende.

Ik heb inmiddels een steenuiltje van ongeveer 5 weken. alles gaat goed, hij eet goed en is druk in de weer. Vooral 5 uur s'ochtends is hij ''lekker'' aanwezig. Beetje irritant als je nog wilt slapen maargoed.
Ben nu druk bezig om hem te laten wennen aan mij. Nog tips wat dat betreft?

Hoi. Ik heb zelf ook 2 kerkuilen, steenuiltje,afrikaanse oehoe, 2 europeese oehoes en een bengaalse oehoe
Ik wil even zeggen dat het niet goed voor de Uil is om haar op de blote hand te houden.
Hem/Haars poten groeien dan naar binnen waardoor hij helemaal niet meer kan staan en zal omvallen en daardoor dood gaan.
Het is beter dat je een speciale handschoen gebruikt.
Mag ik trouwens even vragen in wat voor kooi/voilere je hem hebt zitten?
