u are far more likely to get it when your older like in ur sixties but u can get it whenever ur immune system is weakened say from having another infection, to much alcohol, sleep deprivation, stress... anything that can weaken the immune system. The younger u get it usually the more mild the symptoms. however u can get it more than once. I got it when i was 18 and the symptoms were very mild.

Well herpes in general is spread through sexual contact and so forth. These cases seem to be linked to it but I think they are extreme forms of herpes so I'd think your nephews would be safe, but then again I'm not a doc. :)
