The college I attend called Kapiolani Community College is located just behind that crater that they just passed. The View from the Cafeteria is amazing you can see the beaches out on the distance. has to be one of the nicest campuses around
No better view in all the world than landing this route into Honolulu. Sadly, the same view flying out can be heartbreaking to those of us who were born there or have lived there. Beautiful camera work. Mahalo for posting!
It's actually a "-300" not a "-3", someone from Boeing cleared that up for me when I was in Seattle last year. Nice vid though, love CF6's. I'm goin there in a few weeks from Houston
This is interesting because EVERYTIME I"ve flown into Honolulu (from Seattle) we've circled around and landed from the other direction. And this looks like you landed on the same runway we take off from when leaving always.
@REX719 Aloha,You are not the only one Brother,I lived in Waipahu and Ewa Beach back in 67 to 70 and I was 15 years old back then,My father served in the Navay and sationed at Barbers Point and He retired at Kunia,It was Heartbreaking to Leave that beautiful place.I"ll never forget living there.Mahalo to you my Freind.Rick Gastiger
A "reef" runway landing during Kona winds is not too common and has a "dog leg" approach but offers the best view of Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. Cool video, well done.
Smooth - excellent sound quality... It's one of those videos that you rate highly and add to your favorites all within the first 5 seconds of playback. Thanks!
damn mate I'm always asking my self : how can they record a video in the airplane like that (no shaking , great sounds , full colors & perfect contrast )
Because its such a long flight that it would be too cramped and uncomfortable to fly for that long in such a small plane. Also it could be a very busy route
That's probably the nicest video of a plane's landing approach I've seen out here. A former sales position allowed me to go to Hawaii many times over a ten year period - this brings back many happy memories! Thanks!
yea i love it how AA pilots fake take off.. i mean its one thing to give the engines thrust to taxi and another to give it almost full throttle on the runway. ive been on numerous AA flights were pilots will make ppl think they are tkaing off but only to find out they are just taxing. AA pilots love making their engines whine. =)

Awesome to see this approach from a plane. The few years I lived in Honolulu, I
never got to make this approach, but I certainly enjoyed my plane-watching days
on the beach (San Souci right near Diamond Head) and Ala Moana Beach Park
closer to downtown) when the wind brought the planes into HNL along this route. Very cool!

Very nice landing. I can never land a 767 like that in flight sim...
AARedSox327 2 years ago
Neither can I. In FSX, I have so much trouble landing the 767. I can land it on the runway, but I always flare to early and move around too much.

Wow! i dont know why some airlines use big airplane if an a 319 can do lax-hnl or even mex-hnl

Because its such a long flight that it would be too cramped and uncomfortable to fly for that long in such a small plane. Also it could be a very busy route

I think this is called the Ala Moana Approach onto the
Reef Runway from the East. I remember this approach very well when I last flew into Honolulu!
doloresdude 2 years ago
yeah i think it was called that because when i flew there they told us what it was called.
a380sanm 2 years ago
It's technical name is the LDA/DME Runway 26L Approach.
