When i travel the stars. See the rings of Saturn. Earth becomes a distant light in itself. I will be listening to this song. Thinking of where humanity has come from to where it is. Traveling the Stars.
Reminds me of a train ride to Oranienburg from Berlin I once took in a melancolic December landscape. Very much a "German ambience". In a good sense though. Thumbs up for this.
Ulrich Schnauss Put's this on a whole Differant Demension of Ambiance. It's like being somewhere out beyond our Universe on a whole other Realm of our Human
Understanding & Existstance You Have 2 Agree. I Love his Mindscape of well Complext of True Form. Ulrich Schnauss must be an Alien ET . So are you with me! Do you understand! Because I Do After I've been in the feild of Ambient Electronic Arts my name is D tech2 alway's at you're side!!......................................
I found myself in 2003 quite desperate, yet inside secretly hopeful in my heart lying in a bed when I listened to a random internet radio-station... it started playing Schnauss' 'Molfsee' and I found my soul-brother instantly through the awakening exprerience this brought forth. Thank you.
thank you Last Fm for putting this great music on my M83 station (just bought "Trains Passing By & A Strangely Isolated Place" for £6.85 each off Zavvi.com ;-)
Music such as this tends to have it's own vivacity and character... like it was created in a different world... by another species. Melodies as beautiful as these really shine through humanity to an extent where we can stop and gawp at one another and realize how deep our emotions can travel. Beautiful work sir Ulrich. You send my mind into places I cannot fathom without you.

Melodies as beautiful as these really shine through humanity to an extent where we can stop and gawp at one another and realize how deep our emotions travel. Beautiful work sir Ulrich. You send my mind into places I cannot fathom without you.
I am awed how his use of tone and rhythm can have such a profound effect on the deepest part of my soul. He must have been put on earth to tell us that when all is said and done, it's going to be all right.
sounds like your're walking in deep jungle with 1000 year old trees all around, raindrops falling on your skin, beautiful mountains wich go through the rugget terrain and just walking someplace to the unknow drawn by the beautiful music of Ulrich Schnauss. just like a dream...
This song played in my dream last night, I was flowing down a super fast river. I wasnt even scared, Idk why, but it was really relaxing. the sky was a flourecent glowing white, and the river eventually turned into an ice crystal blue-clear water fall and i fell so slowly down it. and the water I fell into extended infinetly in all directions.Idk, but this song goes so perfectly with it.I wish i could put my dream up on youtube :c
in ur dream (from comment on "Ulrich Schnauss - Molfsee") what did the land around the river look like because i think i may know a place just like ur dream.
for some odd reason, the ground was like padded xD lol, red and blue rubber pads that like martial arts places use to fight on. i doubt you know that place hahah. what were you thinking of anyways?
Schnauss' music has a strong semblance to Boards Of Canada, but I suspect it's more because of shared musical influences. BoC excel at atmosphere, but I feel Schnauss' music is often stronger melodically and harmonically.
All that matters in the end is that "Far Away Trains Passing By" is filled to the brim with lovely music. Go get it!
I don't mean to tarnish your comment, it depends how you regards certain things. But, I suspect there are drug references in both artists. Boards of Canada, without a shade of doubt, and this is why they are a little more alternative in their composition than Schnauss.
@MomoTheBellyDancer This tune sounds like Boards but a lot of Ulrich's stuff doesn't. Ulrich relies less on samples and is a stronger musician. That is me being brutal because I love Music Has A Right To Children.
i feel sorry for Ulrich who made 2 very disappointing albums after this one. How is such a thing possible, I wonder. Still, a track like Molfsee is enough to know the man is a genius of the rarest kind.
@BlackmoonUK I don't. In fact, I envy them. They have whole new ethereal landscapes to explore, it'll all be new to them. I think it would be more apt to say that I feel sorry for the the people who will never discover Ulrich's music.
Okay, maybe that's not what's being said, but it sounds like it to me.
I try and spread Ulrich's music around as much as humanly possible. I've been infatuated with his music ever since I first discovered him back in ~2004. I'll never forget the first time I heard a clip of 'On My Own' (If you put that song on, fast forward to around 1:20...that buildup is what I heard and instantly fell in love with his work). What a true musical genius!
@atreyu179 I know exactly what you mean, I first fell in love with his music when I heard mondays - paracetamol, it is probably the single greatest most relaxing chill out track I've heard.
I'd love to know which film/radio or whatever clip the guy's voice is off, and can never really make up my mind about what he says? The drum rhythm and slow fades in and out just sends me. Then that cheeky hi-hat cymbal riff. Its all just so incredibly and strangely melancholi-hypnotic.
@ukjim Perfectly excellent description of the rhythm tracks! You really nailed it! After having listened to this about 50,000 times in the last two days, I *think* the first few times they're saying, "Are you there?" "No!" But, the last time, I think it's, "Are you there?" "Hello!"
@davestechnique2 LOL!!! Ulrich Schnauss is on Facebook, and I "liked" him - should just post there and ask, huh? Not only for this song, but also "Einfeld" and "Goodbye" ...
If you think that these drums are phat, you may want Max Melvin's "Sand" a try -- also a nice chillout groove, but those drums are really monstrous ;)
Ulrich's music is wonderful, I love a wide spectrum of music but it's this kind and much like it/ambiant and nu sexy jazz that takes me to a place I much like to be. . .
I listen to this stuff all the time........the other day I was hearing this exact track and it started raining....I opened my room window and the affect was amazing....soon I was asleep.....this is how amazing Schnauss is with his work.
This is an incredible piece of music. I don't think I've ever heard of this guy before. It sounds a bit like one of Boards of Canada's moodier tracks. A brilliant choice - thanks for posting it. I'll have to buy his records.
