They misssed a big part of the concept... which is the perspective of windows or a tile type floor... if the room looked exactly like that one... it would not work... everybody would know exactly what was happening... its usually the windows and floor that is drawn to trick your mind from seeing the actual shape of the room... without that... there is no illusion... so this is only a partial explanation.. a poor one at that

All the trick is in the walls. The cealing for instance is sloped not straight that's what gives us the illusion that a person in front is much bigger than the person in the back (the front part of the cealing is lower). At least that's how I figure it...

You're right, it's a severely distorted trapezoid the corners of which coincide in our binocular vision with a square room. Because the corners of this room lie on the same sight lines as those of a regular room, we see a regular room. Also, to the poster, nice animation but it didn't explain a thing ;).
