2:00 - 2:13 is the best part, especially the added bass horns (I'm bad at identifying woodwinds by ear) at 2:07. Those few bass notes and the half second of almost silence afterward while it pauses adds a lot to it.

Bes theme tune in the world ever! It's a matter of opinion which version u prefer, but I like the 2008 version best, That bit at about 2:05 ,which for some reason in our house has come to be known as 'the Scottish hamster' (there is a reason for that we didn't make it up I just can't remember where it came from) I'm sure wasn't in the series one version, only series 2 onwards, is that right?

This is a superb version - far and away better than 08, and so far beyond the version McCoy had to stomach that you'd need the Hubble Telescope to bridge the gap. However, I do place the original original theme as the best version ever. I would have considered this version equal to it, but the original has extra bass harmonics - probably accidental as they don't appear on any other version - that give it resonance that this lacks. (You need the 25 years CD to hear the extra bass.)

I dunno, I always liked the really old one from the 60s, and this version is essentially that version with an orchestral backing. I like it a lot because the root song is there, and it's just bolstered by the additions.

Totally agree - the original arrangement was very mysterious and set the tone for the program - modern arrangements are too 'polished'.

This isn't 2005-2007. This is the 2006-2007 theme. The 2005 theme was slightly different....the original baseline was in the 05 theme. Listen carefully. They're different.
