Seinfeld one of the best ever series on tv, shame it stopped.

thats good question, we only know that he used to work in that donut store but went on strike, another thing we are able to find out that he "gets by", but realisticly

no chance he could live like that, we see in many series he has very poor apartment that as you said he eats from Jerry but at times they (ofcourse for joke) shown he had hundreds of dollars :D - sure later he earned money from his book and all but ... he truly is a mistery :D
