  • If you live in New Orleans, you "get it." If you don't, then you won't. If any of the negative posters have never been down here, then you don't know what it's about. It's us. It's what we do and what we will do until the end of time.

"If you don't love this life, you gotta be crazy!" - Kermit Ruffins

  • There's more culture on this block than the cities of Atlanta, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Houston, Cleveland and the rest of middle America combined!!

  • jclark said it right...the music at the start of the jazz funerals starts off slow and mournful, out of sorrow and respect for the loss of the departed. As the deceased is laid to rest, he has gone to his reward and the music reflects the joy both of the departed's ascension into paradise, slong with a celebration of life. If you've never seen a New orleans jazz funeral in person (saw many, being from there) the video doesn't do it justice.

  • there's no greater honor than a jazz funeral

  • Im in da A but thank GOD 4 youtube and da Birth R.I.P.Big Dawg ur always with us believe dat

  • Very moving. Although I hate to invade other people's privacy in mourning, I'm glad it was captured on video. Those of us not from NO have no idea what this is like. It's very beautiful way to go.

  • I still don't understand why people are taking still photographs of a Second Line in progress. Only motion pictures capture the energy and excitement of a second line.

  • To all who are posting about disrespecting the dead, they are celebrating with their sorrow. Can you not hear the anguish in those horns, do you not see the hundreds weeping next to those singing the praises of life? I'm not religious in anyway, therefor I believe time spent here on Earth should be spent wisely, and saying goodbye to those that have touched your life by thundering your grief threw brass or dancing to the joy of existence is not only wise, it's healthy, and should be mandatory

  • RESPECT!! "When I die hallelujah bye and bye, I'll fly away"!!! Beautiful man! Just Beautiful!

  • That's a hell of a way to go out. On top. This ain't and shouldn't be a racial issue...this is about honoring a musician...a man the way he more than likely honored others. I'd be a blessed man to go out with even a quarter of the support this man did. Absolutely amazing showing. Dance Kerwin dance.

  • This is why i dont support Tyler perry. He is from Atlanta, not New Orleans

  • I am white, and from New Orleans. I grew up in the projects when there were mostly whites that occupied. This video is great, im not a musician, but my children are (Saxonphone, clarinet, trumphet, marumba), and to show them the dedication and passion that these musicians have for each other and their music is exactly what we need to have for each other black yellow or white. Oh and being a poor boy from New Orleans I work for NASA now.

  • Dude at 7:03 is killin' it. lol

  • He was young. What happened?

  • he had a stroke in 2006 and stayed that way into his death

  • please, god, let me go out like that

  • Impressionante che cultura! Vorrei anc'io un funeale così!

  • Of course they hop in to party. That is payin respect in THE BIG EASY

  • the only problem I have with this is that most of the people in the crowd hopped in just to party instead of paying their last respects. It appears that way to me atleast. for example that chick in 5:25

  • i want them to party when i'm gone...no funeral..no embalming...no vault...least expensive scasket...bury same day i die...memorial later if someone wants...lmao

  • That is New Orleans culture. This is called the second line and in this procession, joyous songs are played for the departed. It is a celebration of their life and the promise that the afterlife has no sorrows, no pain.

At all points before this, songs are played that are more mournful at the church and the people are not dancing, and it is like any other funeral just...jazzier.

  • you must not be from new orleans or stayed inside because what you see is what you get, this is new orleans baby

  • no need for rudeness. Im not from new orleans so I wouldnt know. And I really dont see much why to visit any time soon. just not for me.

  • i wasn't being rude but if you know it was rude for you to make a comment on something you didn't know about , i was just explaining how it is done in new orleans. they are not disrespecting the dead just celebrating. as for as you visiting new orleans, that's on you....as a black person you should explore your culture more instead of criticizing, that's what is wrong with us now....separated as planned from slavery..Have A Nice Day

  • My apologies for assuming. Why when blacks are having fun the first thing said is that they should be working? There are more whites homeless so don't go there. Can someone have an off day god forbid, attend a funeral. This is the way N. O.bury their dead. N.O. is just diffferent in culture both black and white. We are not uptight ,we do have good jobs as our president has shown. He danced and and have the top job..About the looking ahead, OUR PRESIDENT is the future so what you're talking about!!!!!

  • looking at the past?!?!

If anything, this is about as good of a way of looking toward a brighter tomorrow.
