Good blues tone? Start with a real tube amp, not one of those transistor computer amps. I get good blues tone plugging straight into a 1964 Deluxe Reverb and turn it up to about 6. No "Drive" control needed!
Blues tone isn't something anyone can really package...there's so many legendary players with so many distinct styles, you can't just dial in one tone and call it "blues." Blues, from an instrumental stand point, is a particular character in which someone plays the guitar. Amps can't create it, they can only facilitate it.
Expert Village is a cool name... and that's all. It's the blind leading the better-off-without-you. Expert Village is ALWAYS a let-down. They only exist because they have the balls to flood the net with shit and hide behind a name that makes them sound worthwhile. You can't look anything up without finding an EV vid about it and you can't watch their vids without experiencing rage. If you're impressed with EV, you simply don't know any better.
@MetalliMan0521 Fender tele and Stratocaster is the perfect guitar for blues playing. Ask Buddy guy, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Roy Buchanan... just get a digital Delay Boss DD3 and that's it!
So let me get this straight: To get the best tone from an amp, turn the dials up & until you like the sound..? Did I get that right? Wow, thanks, man..all this time I've just been sitting here staring at the amp, waiting for it to sound better ;-( I'm gonna try turning those knobs up & down :-)
That's as fat sound as you can get from a transistor amp..still a bit skinny....if you really want the BEST tone, then you need a tube amp dude. So I think the title of the video is totally wrong.
You old fuck, who says you need tubes for "tone"? I've gotten great tones from SOLID STATE amps, anything from Roland to Ibanez to Crate to Kustom, the list goes on. I played a Gibson EDS-1275 through a 200 dollar Fender GDEC and you know what? It sounded great. Skinny? Not at all, morbidly obese if anything. Blues? NO problem. Just because your dad and your grandpappy used tube amps in the good (bad) old days doesn't mean you need them for this mystical "tone".
@WoWintosh ALL solid state amps do is reproduce a close enough tone to a vintage amp with tubes in it. They are samples of tube amps you dim wit. Learn before speaking
actually the only way to get certain tones is with vintage technology.modern amps don't clip and compress like old cathode biased, tube rectified, alnico speaker equipped amps...just doesn't happen.those amps feel alive when you play them.
you can get decent sounds from SS amps with ceramic speakers but you are limited and the guitar has allot to make up for
At least plug in a strat into ANY low gain tube amp to get you in the ballpark! OMG that was crap...next time they're going to tell us that getting a good blues tone you need a ukulele going through a Boss Metal Zone going through a Digitech Whammy into a car stereo with the speakers panned all the way to the right!!!
"...next time they're going to tell us that getting a good blues tone you need a ukulele going through a Boss Metal Zone going through a Digitech Whammy into a car stereo with the speakers panned all the way to the right!!!"
@joshua5878 Hard not to be negative with a video like this, that is titled "Best blues tone" and it is not even close to even poor blues tone. This is the kind of video that confuses beginners. A blues video with a Line 6? Please.
@joshua5878 that was seriously a waste of time, and you can't see that? I think there are so many negative comments because this vid was posted professing to add some kind of value or insight for those wanting some tips to getting some blues tips for amp settings, and all this guy said was to add some gain, then some reverb, then change the knob settings and you get some different tones...wow...my 2 year old daughter does that when I'm playing and she's twisting all the knobs & thinks its funny!
I have to agree with MetallicA145678910......."EXPERTS" they are not.I would never call myself an expert, but I've been playing guitar for about 25 yrs........and the key to anyones sound is quite simply their influences..................whateve you've been listening to all through you're years comes out in you'er sound.some like a hard crunchy tone.....others prefer a softer warm tone.personally I like to pitch one against the other for dynamic effect.its all a matter of taste...
expert village, everything you do sucks balls. the last thing you should do is trying to teach anyone to "play like keith richards" or "set great blues tones on your amp"
tell the entire expert village staff to take whatever musical equipment you have, and toss it in the river.
@simsdogg92 ok thanks dude,by the way i got a pyramid g10,with no mid knob, not sure if you've ever heard of that ;) and one more thing, how do i get a heavy metal sound,i think i got it but i dont think its enuff, does it depend on my skills? or its just fully on the amp?
@PredatoriaMoon it mostly depends on your ear and how you like your tone. for my metal tone i like a lot of mids with a fair amount of bass, and i roll the treble almost all the way down. if you want to hear an example of how my equipment sounds, go check out my video that i just now put up.
hey,im a new learner and im gonna get myself an amp which is quite small and have a very little buttons, juz wanna make sure do small amps with little buttons have a distortion system?
The whole purpose of this is strange to me, I mean what common tone are SRV. bb king and rory gallagher sharing? It depends on the individual musician and his influence. Whole point of blues is that its not a cheesy music in a can, off a tab performance, it's individual.
Blues, such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, is surprisingly cleaner... Turning the gain up full blast only works on 80's crotch rock... your tone controls help you more than anything in blues...
umm...my favorite amp is a solid state one and the amp DOES matter you noob. using a death metal tone for blues obviousl;y won't sound good. it's ignorant pricks like you who judge somebody without even knowing them that's a problem, not me.
@Fluffypopcicle first of all, anybody who uses the term "noob" doesn't know a damn thing about the blues. You're talking as if there is only ONE proper blues tone. I have heard blues players use clean tone w/ a little vibrato, I have heard gritty fuzzy blues, and yes I have even heard so much distortion it sounded like death metal, but they were bluesing it up, and they were good at it.
You clearly don't know anything about REAL music, so just shut the fuck up!
oh, so apparently classical isn't good music? i love the blues, but there is a certain line 6 tone that i hear every once in a while that simply can't be used for the blues. i never even said you couldn't use a line 6 for blues or that there was only one good blues tone which is what makes you so incredibly stupid. the title of this video implied that this tone is the best for blues music and anybody that has a good taste in blues tone doesn't think of a line 6 when they hear that.
i said was hilarious as in nobody thinks line 6 when they think blues unless they are an inexperienced guitar player. you said i don't know anything about real music, so yes, you did say classical isn't good music. by saying what you said you said any music i like or know about sucks. read your own comments.
and you keep responding to 5 day old comments. did it really take you that long to come up with that? you're right there was never an argument to begin with, you're too stupid to make a valid point.
@Fluffypopcicle It didnt take me that long. The act of reading your self-indulgent bullshit bored me so much that I went into a coma. I just came out of it yesterday.
Here's an idea: quit being so boring, change your tampon, and move the fuck on.
'Expert'? They just got a random guy who thinks he knows abit about guitar! Biggest pile of crap i've ever seen. As if they recon there's ONE tone for playing blues and nothing else is better... what a joke!
yah i cant really see if the locking nut is there or not... fender did at one point release strats with floyds for a few of the h-s-s models around the mid-late 80s and early 90s... i think.... but i have never seen one. if that is indeed one of those thats kinda neat.
what do you expect from a guy that tells you that his setting is the "best" play however you like your sound and dont listen to the morons..if youre a good player you sound good even with a battery amp
While this guy SUCKS, BB King (the king of tone) has used both tube AND solid state amps. Blues cubes are popular to. If your in a situation where you CAN'T CRANK IT UP, tubes don't sound as good, and there ARE some nice SS amps out there. The reason SS gets a bad rap is since its cheaper to manufacture, ALL budget GARBAGE is made from it. I have played BAD sounding TUBE amps as well. The rule is whether tube OR SS your gonna PAY to get good stuff, no cheapies.
So just so I'm hearing this clearly...Great blues tone can be achieved through a Line6...using EMG pickups. You tryin'a troll?

does his strat have a floyd?
TheJonabel 2 years ago
@TheJonabel yeah but no locking nut so its really no beter than a vintage fender bridge
sgslayer99 2 years ago
yah i cant really see if the locking nut is there or not... fender did at one point release strats with floyds for a few of the h-s-s models around the mid-late 80s and early 90s... i think.... but i have never seen one. if that is indeed one of those thats kinda neat.

what do you expect from a guy that tells you that his setting is the "best" play however you like your sound and dont listen to the morons..if youre a good player you sound good even with a battery amp
sioux333 2 years ago
While this guy SUCKS, BB King (the king of tone) has used both tube AND solid state amps. Blues cubes are popular to. If your in a situation where you CAN'T CRANK IT UP, tubes don't sound as good, and there ARE some nice SS amps out there. The reason SS gets a bad rap is since its cheaper to manufacture, ALL budget GARBAGE is made from it. I have played BAD sounding TUBE amps as well. The rule is whether tube OR SS your gonna PAY to get good stuff, no cheapies.
