@CairoJCL Sorry to contradict you but the helmets worn are all original first world war British Army issue. They are not copies or fakes and like every detail of the uniforms worn by the re-enactors in the video extremely well researched.
thats a pretty cozy trench wooden sides and everything the soldiers look realy well fed in reality the trenches were more temporary than that they slowly would move closer to the enemy by digging closer trenhes all they realy had was a wooden bridge across the bottom so that they wouldnt get trench foot also rat infested and filled with corpses that the rats would eat but the rats mostly ate the eyes and liver the trench in the vid is like a holiday inn compared to that
@TheKiwiMaster I agree! Even in WW2 the german people were not evil. They had been brainwashed by propaganda and searched for stability after the devastation caused by reparations and then the great depression. Hitler offered that... It was Hitler who was evil, not the people living there. Many of them didn't even know about the Jewish camps, and those who did didn't speak because of fear of being slaughtered by the Hitlers army.
That was nice of you to say so, thank you. It is a subject that can easily be trivialized, we tried to be sensitivein our portrayal. It was shot as a pilot for a broadcast show but was sadly not commissioned.
I find it interesting that some people see the germans in WW1 evil where as infact they were not, it was WW2 when they were evil (to the point that they where under hitlers rule)
they were evil in wwi they completely sacked and treated Belgium like how they treated jews (without the killing) and they had work camps in wwi as well
my dad was a field soldier in ww2 france, and microbes from all the ww1 and trench slop were still present in he soil into the 1940's; they had to be careful if they got any dirt in an open wound.
My Great Grandpa got poisoned by mustard gas and died of it many yrs later. when he was at the hospital and they were fixing him up he always said thank you to everything they said. When they were done the nurse came over and said "Thank you just saved your life" :)
My granddad died of shellshock; on his death certificate they wrote 'Epilepsy'. Nice eh? He had never had a 'fit' in his life. He died in a 'sanitorium' after the war. God bless them all.
they had gas masks a piece of cloth over the face would not stop that gas as if you got one whiff of it you would basically cough up your lungs and as i saw it they got a big gob full but did not cough and the trenches were sooo much worser than that they were filthy and there were dead bodies everywhere but overall i have to say it was a good video
conditions were much worse then wut it shows here. the trenches were gross and smelt awful. there were rats running all over the place, there was the smell of rotting bodies, it was muddy, lice was a huge problem, food was usually really old bread and soup with stuff they just throw in, not to mention there feet always hurt because they only had one pair of socks including clothing so they couldn't exactly clean there clothing and shoes, there was bacteria everywhere.
I am looking into producing a short film in the Ypres region in 2009. Would it be possible to contact the actors/ agents or would you even be interested yourself?
It would be a low budget production with a cast of about 25 people. The story is about a deserter and his last hours before having to go back into the line, but then he changes his mind, and the ending takes quite an unexpected turn... (can t tell more)> so in case you re interested contact me through my channel>
you and your friends made this? I like it its reley cool. looks like you put alot of effort into it. The only thing i dont like about it is the fact only 3 people went over the trench. Shurly u got more friends? and they should have been runin. apart for that u got 5 stars from me
The people used in this reconstruction are professional military actors, the trench used is a film set built to the highest level of accuracy for the film and TV industry. To correct your assumption that the troops should be running, British soldiers in WW1 did not run, they were trained to walk towards the enemy.
but then again, they would also not die that fast that far away from enemy guns. And the way they timed the attack suggests it's not a routine attack but a planned offensive. Which would involve more men.
I would not like to fight in the war, but I would at least like to go through one day in their shoes to see and feel what they felt.

Those turlte helmets were not used by the british army until 1944. In WWI they used the brodie.

Thanks a million for posting this. It is very emotional to watch. I will be showing it to my students as we begin learning about trench warfare.

They used Chlorine gas and Mustard gas, those would take about 30 sec. to kill you or make you pass out.

i thought that was a really good video so please dont just swear at me and refuse to take my points.
firstly - thousands went over the top not just a few at a time.
secondly - no mans land would be completely torn up beyond recognition.
thirdly - there wouldnt have been any trees.
fourthly - it was still a really good video!!
