I was wondering, Karachay is very much similar to Kazakh or Kyrgyz, even ur name "qylych" means - a sword, and I'm sure that words like "naiza" - spear, "kalkan" - shield, and dozens of others should be the same )) so, our languages are even closer than, let's say, Turkish and Karachai, or Uzbek and Kazakh... I'm just thinking, if our languages are so similar, why do we look different? )) the version that we mixed with mongols doesnt explain why our language stay turkic.. "Atsyz jigit kanatsyz")

Karachays and Balkars are same people both share same roots families(tuqums). But they live different sides of Mount Elbrus. In Soviet administration they are seperated due to natural boundary of unhabitated Elbrus.

Thanks) Well, Elya was the lightning deity in our culture and a divine warlord. This song means "Give the strength and spirit to our youth, who stands on path of warrior, Eliya. Blessed be by Elia". But, we are Muslims, Alhamdullillah and this performance is just depiction of old paganic culture...

Believe it or not the name Elya is a common name in our Assyrian Communities, is this another amazing coincidence ? You never know next thing I know you might turn out to be my cousin lol.

No, karachays as well as balkars reside in Caucasus. Their homeland is Elbrrus mountain region and nearby gorges. Some protobulgars came from Caucasus to modern Bulgaria and established it.

Yes I am Assyrian and my interest in your culture is due to been similar to my own so are all people around there, there are no geographic and/ or natural border and during the centuries people get in touch with each other been because of war or peace or trade that's why and when I watched the video I felt connected with the music the dance and the costume

I can tell you the meaning in my language (Assyrian/ Aramaic), it means (the people who shouts), could be that your ancient soldiers use to shout like modern day commandos, when they attack they scream/ shout to scare their enemy (just a possibility)

Greetings! Well, the name "Karachay" came from our warlord Karcha when he reunited remnants of our people, after the war with tamerlan. The original name was Taulula (mountaineers in our language). I guess it could be true, coz in ancient times people were more militant and reckless than we. Thanks for the info )

In early times we called it Shibilya. After Christianity influence he was renamed as Eliya. Shiblya means lightning also.
