what's herbie thinking? i ask myself that question alot (on footage of keytars, cardigans, and afros) ... but really, what's herbie really thinking about this performance!? herbie!??
"The spirit of jazz is the spirit of openness." “The fact that young hip-hop artists are searching for the jazz roots of their music acknowledges the greatness of roots, helps a person get a sense of being grounded, of being attached, of coming from somewhere.” Herbie Hancock. Hip Hop and Jazz are being fused together by people like Robert Gasper, and Mos Def, they are both just as valid as music. Of course, there is terrible rap around, but do not generalize like that. It shows ignorance.
rap is dope, i always listen to beats, but i love Jazz too... well, my mind is free... i think its a important faact, that u can mix beats and jazz very well
no mames extrordinario en mi vida habia escuchado un solo de piano como ese es una cosa maravillosa al igual que el resto de la banda!!!no vetee a la verga!!!
To clear this up for you, this is from a concert which is now available on DVD called "Antonio Carlos Jobim: An All-Star Tribute" (VIEW VIDEO, 1995/2002). The ensemble includes Herbie Hancock (MC and keyboards, and features Shirley Horn (Piano & Vocals), Gonzalo Rubalcaba (Piano), Joe Henderson (Tenor Sax), Gal Costa (Vocals), Tom Jobim (Vocals & Piano), with Ron Carter (Bass), Alex Acuna (Percussion), Harvey Mason (Drums) and Paulo Jobim (Guitar).
Also, John Hendricks does a great, heart-warming vocal on Chega de Saudade (No More Blues) with this ensemble. Although Gonzalo's intensity on the piano is quite dynamic, I was actually more drawn to Shirley Horn's piano style on the song, Once I Loved. She did a beautiful performance of song with her vocal and piano playing.

@dieglhix I agree that rap and hiphop (most often) sucks. But how is that connected to this jazz improvisation?

This is great!!! But I think Harvey Mason is playing the drums, and Alex Acuna is playing percusion, and I see Herby Hancock on keyboards.....
