Hey bugilt - nice stuff, super clean export. I just picked up this camera and love it, the picture quality is amazing. What size are you compressing -- .mov 425 x 318? Do you deinterlace on the export? h264 codec?
@MarkAndrewAnderson I export the video with H.264 1920x1080 and typically shoot at 30p. Shooting in 30p is progressive and keeps me from having to deinterlace. I'd also suggest turning off the steady shot if you plan on panning in your shot.
@bugilt - HF S10 does not support 1080p only 1080i, so shooting in 30 is pointless. Same as 24 mode...it may look prettier after, but in reality, the camera records everything in 60 and down converts from there; look it up, it's even mentioned on Canon's site.
Also, in reference to YouTube supporting video from this camera...this was supported long before you uploaded this video at the end of 2009. I was shooting with it in March of 2009 and it supported it (which is AVCHD) before then.
@bugilt does the media file (.mov/avi) whatever it is, work with windows movie maker? also does this cam come with editing software? and last question can u pause it in the middle of a vid then start again? like a pause button? thanks :)
@MuffinBakers - it's in a MTS file format container as AVCHD. I don't think Windows Movie Maker supports the format, you have to convert it first. Cam does come with editing software, but it is worthless. Good question about the pausing...does not matter, makes a new file every time you stop or pause, however in the camera there is an option post record, to join / split files.
how do you upload footage from this camera to a mac because whenever i hook up my camera it doesn't recognize it on my mac. PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@baconbits12321 I don't use use mac, but I heard you can use fcp to import the files.
Once connected, open FCP and go to the menu File > Log and Transfer and see if you can see your clips. Log and Transfer only works with HD clips, so if you have multiple format clips on your card, you may have difficulty using Log and Tansfer.
@VeronicaFeline I use premiere to edit and convert the video. You can get the same quality from other software. The HF-S10 uses AVCHD which has just recently became easier to edit and convert. When I first got the camera there were only a few options to convert the video into something that you could edit.
@Hogstompers The quality of the video depends on a lot of factors. What camera, what software, what codec. If you want to MSG me on YouTube about the problem you are having, I might be able to help.
Hey bugilt, nice video! how many weights are you using for you GC2000? I'm trying to balance my Vixia HF S20 (pretty much the same weight as the S10). Right now i'm not using any weights, just the bolt and the little fender washer, and my pole is lowered all the way to the bottom.
I think the HF-S10 couldn't compete with those two taking still images. The option to change lenses is what would sell for me. 720p is the one sacrifice you have to make, but well worth it for the rest.
i just bought one of these cameras and it is amazing. the only thing i dont like is the visual noise in low light settings. one thing i do like a lot is the HD booty near the end of this video.
wow! thanx for the info! - and you might as well try some of the progs adobe CS4 Master collection. never crashed forr me! - and you may even get a special student discount (WAAAAAY cheper!) if you know someone in Uni/High school!
looks like 1080 to me. If you're assuming it is 720 because there's not an option between 720 and 1080 on the hd button, a lot of youtube videos are no longer showing that option. If it was uploaded in 1080 and you hit HD, then 1080's all you get.
About 90 percent sure, yeah. I've seen several other videos where people indicate they uploaded a 1080 source file, and the quality looks very noticably better, but it was still not giving a selection option. I have the same camera as this guy and have several videos uploaded in 720p, and none look as clearly defined as this. I wish I could upload some 1080, but every time I try to render a 1080 movie, Sony Vegas crashes on me. It's a known problem with the software. : (
your spare time looks like a corporate well being video forced upon the worker masses in there lunch break in place of food.

nice video dude, does canon hf s10 and s11 record to 1080p or 1080i??
thx
laazteka 1 year ago
@laazteka it puts it in a 60i wrapper. You have to do a pulldown removal to get the progressive format. 60i/30p/24p are the different modes.
bugilt 1 year ago
@bugilt oh thx... then if i choose 30p, that will be 1080p?? sorry im a newbie yet...
PS: im watching lots of videos and some people add "Night Scene Mode" as title, can you explain me how can i get that setting??...
Thx a lot

The Nikon COOLPIX P100 is coming out in March for $400.

Oh and by the way, can you record videos on it? Because since it's a digital camera and all I'm just wondering?
proximxr 2 years ago
Full 1080p HD movie recording at 30fps. A lot of the newer digital cameras record video. I'd love to have one of the DSLR cameras that shoot 1080p.
