Salaam, dear uploader, just a friendly peace of advice, music in Islam is absolutely forbidden. I am sure there are many like myself who clicked to watch this video to inshallah gain some benefit and reward, but instead we are confronted by this music which cause us to sin. It's one thing to listen to music oneself in private, that's a personal sin, it's completely on a different level to distribute it and cause others to be indulged in it. Please brother, bear this in mind.
@soulja4lyf87 Salaam. Actually, there has been dispute about thing among scholars because most of them say that music in itself isn't haraam, it's what you use it for. Being: "singing" the national anthem could be considered because it is still considered to be music but we don't think of that as haraam. However, if you're listening to music that contains haraam things (sex, drugs, drinking, etc), THAT music in specific is haraam. So each piece of "music" has to be evaluated by itself.
@BlweLotus Wasalaam, I am uncertain of your source for claiming that the "jamhoorul ulamaa" or as you put it "most" of the ulamaa are of the opinion you mentioned. However, I would like to inform you that it is clear cut in the ahaadeeth that music is forbidden, as in, indulging in it will result in major sin. The only instrument that has been allowed in shari'a is the "duff". Judging by your comment, I will presume that you are not an aalim, therefore, to get a better understanding of the...
@BlweLotus ... the stance of islam on music, I would recommend you read "Slippery stone" by Khalid Baig, ISBN:0-9755157-2-1 published by openmind press, California. It is an excellent piece written for the 'awaam (general public). One thing you should keep in mind is that although there are differences of opinion regarding the niceties, the most cautious path is to abstain from it. That way you will remain safe in any case. Just like for example, according to the hanafi maslak one can...
@BlweLotus ... according to the hanafi maslak, the time for dhur remains until the second mithl (i.e. 2 x shadow) However, as per some of the other a'imma it only remains until the first mithl, therefore, being a hanafi, it would be more cautious to try and pray dhur before the first mithl. Obviously, if the need arises, then one can perform in after the first mithl, but my pont is that it's awla (better) to be more cautious. I hope that I have helped shed some light on this matter. Salaam
Are you people serious? Sh Hamza Yusuf is a scholar of Islam....and when he is telling us your happiness is in serving other people he absolutely means serving people for Allah's sake. Since the first thing he tells us is to be at peace with Allah's decree. Put two and two together people. First you accept Allah's decree, serve Him, serve His creation...that's what Sh Hamza Yusuf is saying.
And all you guys understood from this is .... if we serve people it's devoid of reward! SubhanAllah.
pleeaaseee remove the music. the message is what is beautiful it doesnt need music overlapping it.....not to mention it makes it quite difficult to understand.
That is true you didn't mention compassion. I'm asking you though, if they do it out of compassion, do you consider it Shirk? To my knowledge their deeds are considered fruitles, but not shirk. Am I wrong?
Hamza Yusuf's lectures, talk is always so inspirational. Even though we may know and understand - we also need to be reminded - it feels very good to have another human being to remind u - and to make ur believes and character stronger. So - thank you Shaikh Yusuf for ur work and words.
happiness, is not n servng people, but it is in serving Allah.
If you earn Allah's pleasure, everything else does not matter. The Dua of the Prophet after visiting banu taif, suffuices as proof. He earned the displeasure of the people, but the pleasue of Allah.
Was the Prophet not serving the people when he brought them Islam? Serving Allah is fundamentally linked to serving the people. To bring people Islam is to give them the opportunity to reach the ultimate happiness: to be in heaven, in the presence of Allah. When a doctor gives a painful injection it may bring displeasure but he is serving his patient and giving them an opportunity to live a better, happier life
There is a very precise difference. And it is very important to understand. Seeking the pleasure of people will not guarentee happiness, but seeking the pleasure of Allah(swt) will For it is Allah(swt) who makes the laws and we ultimately follow them. When we follow these laws we serve him alone, in the process we may gain the displeasure of people, but know we gain gained the pleasure f Allah is what makes us happy.
Remember that we do everything because Allah ordains.
a)True happiness is being pleased with what Allah has decreed.
b)The pursuit of happiness in Islam is a pursuit of a moral and virtuous life.
c) Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:" God will never forsake you, you feed the hunger, you take care of the orphan..." (Isn't that a proof that serving others will result in the pleasure of others and ultimately Allah's pleasure which will bring about happiness.)
you have no idea how much I needed to hear this at this stage of my life, so I cannot thank you enough for uploading this, barakallahu fik(fiki)

Great Video. Thanks for uploading!
But a little criticism: The music is a little bit too loud. Because of that, it is sometimes hard to understand, what is said.
