  • so who is ernest borgnine?

  • @ah4666 : an italian-american actor who played in over a hundred films and series over the last sixty years. See Wikipédia.

  • chilling

  • masterful programming and the track still sounds fresh ... and all time fave

  • How exactly this is related to Ernest Borgnine ?

  • @squarebrusher

"How exactly this is related to Ernest Borgnine ?"

    Take a wild guess.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer ...What, clown stuff? How 'bout the "Airwolf Theme"? Come on, mATE, cough up, you seem to know something I don't

  • this tune is perfect!

  • @Sakenaali But Denmark is not. Denmark fucking sucks

  • @workatthefarm

Wait, where did that come from?

    Denmark does suck but

    wat

  • i lurv square... its my beleif and i hope its true.. that i seroconverted during squarepushers Tundra sumhow.....

  • The effect this intro had on me as a youngster was mind-blowing.

  • @deewon4 called reverb :)

  • This pleases me.

  • Does anybody notice the similarity of the main beat with the Prodigy tune "Out of Space"? Not sure how to describe it, but the booming drum with the little stutter on the snare appears the same in both tracks. Absolutely incredible tune!

  • omg this is a fucking masterpiece. I second blasting the intro!

  • omg this is a fucking masterpiece. I second blasting the intro!

  • @mortess lol you seconded yourself with a double post xD

  • Anyone love turning it up all the way during the intro?

  • At the time of this comment, Ernest Borgnine still lives

  • alot of emotion and memory in this one with a helluva drum track >:E

  • This is drum and bass. Not that Squarepusher is exclusively dnb but this track is obviously as are other SP tracks. Ain't no thing.

  • Brilliant album. Too much drugs the last few years I guess.

  • @crutchex

Does that make Aphex Twin the queen?

  • damn I used to play this so f*ckin loud back in '98, I'm lucky my neighbours didn't kill me!

  • Das ist einfach nur Fantastisch!das lied hat einfach nur so viele emotionen. wundervoll*-*

  • Sadness I do not.. now madness... yep, yes I do!

This tune reminds me of what good electronic music is supposed to be like, no matter what genre: it´s supposed to be classical, in the sense that this track for example, is over ten years old, ans it´s still good to hear, actual. It´s something many jerks who think they know good music haven´t heard yet, and when they finally did they wouldf probably say: "wow, was this released this year?!!" or something like that...

  • this is the greatest era of dnb. so pure. cornish dnb straight out the 90s. love it.

  • does anyone know what song he sampled to get those awesome snare sounds? ive been looking for em for a while. they sound very similar to Come to Daddy (although a lot more processed in that track obviously)

  • @WillHerndon Unless Richard shared the samples.. Come to daddy came out in 97, Theme From Ernest Borgnine came out in 96.. There just time stretched snares , maybe they used the same drum machine :) nice ear tho,,,

  • @WillHerndon Probably the Amen Break.

  • @Pescolly ha yeah, classic...

  • @WillHerndon

I think they're from Apache by Incredible Bongo Band, heavily edited though.

  • Almost reminds me of Hasty Boom Alert. Not nearly as good though.

  • It sounds like drum & bass to me but WHO CARES??!? It's freaking genius!

  • i just luv reading evryones responses to this trak.... its just mind blowing hearing the feedbak...ive always listened to his music alone.. and to hear these comments is just fukn ace,.. also its funny how many blokes luv this trak... i guess its coz we like computers and electronics and gadgets and taking things apart.. and i dig sQuaRe coz he just puts so much fukn emotion into a fukn trak.. its cool to know that heaps ov blokes feel the same wAy as i do about his music...

  • my bloody god... I can't describe in words the majestuosity of this song...

  • @arsehead2000 You should learn how to read. Tehghoul clearly says that the genre is also squarepusher, stating that it's unique in its kind.

  • Comment removed

  • I love this song so much.. found squarepusher through a good friend when I was around 15 couldn't stop listening to the point where he was infact all I would listen to...

  • How is that a top comment? Pigeonholers are bad enough (who cares what genre it is?), but the term 'Intelligent Dance Music' is ghastly - insulting and ultimately inaccurate. How many Squarepusher tracks could you honestly 'dance' to? It's just 'cool'.

  • @arsehead2000 Maybe if you learn not to be a pretentious twat, you'll stop being so pedantic.

  • @TehGhoul How was that pretentious? Calling yourself an IDM fan is pretentious.

  • @arsehead2000 I'm sorry but where did I call myself an IDM fan?

  • @arsehead2000 If you cant dance to Squarepusher youre fucking deaf and possibly bifida.

  • @Windylicker74 You probably can in your bedroom, they put some on at a rave once and the floor emptied. NOT A BAD THING, before the fanboys start frothing, we all just sat down and listened, but those who valiantly attempted to dance soon found it was not only hard, but kind of defeated the point too.

  • eargasm

  • Anyone know what the synth is?

  • @playerthe2nd

    SH-101

  • good old times

  • This track has both a melancholic note of "I wish for those times, when..." and the excitement of "Hey! This here new, cool thing..." with a percussion side that keeps saying "I ain't got time to bleed".

    :)

  • This is modern day Jazz in a new form

  • when katrina hit louisiana i was listening to this, eating shrooms and watching my roof fly off.

  • How the hell are people gonna compare some junkyard repetitive ass shite called dubstep to this? The people feel very innovative using similar sounds, same repetitive beat in every song, meanwhile you got something from the 90's that sounds better in every way (sound quality, use of mathematical synchronicity). I really don't understand the frame of mind of people that listen to today's music anymore.

  • anyone remember making tape compilations??

wasnt that long ago but its seems like aaaaages.

  • Is that the cabbie from Escape from New York?

    Awesome.

  • I can definitely see why Clark puts this track as one of his biggest influences. brilliant.

  • @mightymellow01 Chris?

  • @ReturnToAus

hahah wasn't sure what you meant for a sec cause my name is Chris Clarke too and i live in australia (looked at your username) so thought you were someone I knew. Yeah, Chris Clark. He goes under Clark since a few albums ago. If that wasn't coincidental enough, I'm seeing him live tonight!

  • Beautiful.

  • TB-303 + Airwolf = Awesomeness!

  • @micropod

    not a 303, most likeley a 202

  • how come that rephlex never released something of squarepusher? i was some other label.

  • I used to listen to this song every morning driving to school. This is my favorite song of his and, in my opinion, his masterpiece.

  • Does anyone else pick up a sense of sadness in this track?

  • @elsewhereify desolation that is what i get from this track

  • @pheratoum

You've hit the nail on the head, my friend. I agree.

  • @elsewhereify I sense a plethora of emotions ranging from anger to bliss... You certainly can sense the sadness in the synthesizer though thats for sure...

  • Is this what Squarepusher's gonna look like in the future?

  • can anyone tell me what style of music is this

  • @xDepthChargex The genre is IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), Electronic, Breakbeat, Squarepusher.

  • @TehGhoul genres are for gays which cant create any.. fuck you

  • @wewothebigicipator Simmer down, we do not all profess to be musical geniuses

  • @TehGhoul Also Drum and Bass

  • @TehGhoul Well, Squarepusher himself says it's drum and bass

  • @TehGhoul

If you ask the Englishmen they'd say Braindance! But for me.. I call it both the same! IDM rules <3

  • @TehGhoul SP is IDM but that isn't a genre really. It's just an intelligent producer drawing on various electronic genres, no? Genres are genres -- rock, jazz, reggae, dnb, hip hop etc. No?

  • @ruffbizness No. I really love Squarepusher and it should be a genre itself. Well it's a joke, and you also replied to a 7 month old comment.

  • @ruffbizness sorry my bad. i should have picked up on that. sorry for going all Spock on you! :-)

  • oh ...i love that musik :-)

  • yummy

  • hairs on my neck spring up everytime this mutha kicks in. like someone injecting cocaine into my spine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • don't matter what race you are, what gender you are, where you're from, or whether or not you even like this kinda music. squarepusher is fuckin whack, and you know it.

  • @YOWEHOMIESINDAHOOD How is he whack?

  • It's not a TB-303, it's a SH-101.

  • @andy92811 Could also be an MC-202.... Anyway they're quite similar soundwise

  • @AnthonyDavid94 Its definitely made on an SH 101 just based on what gear ive seen him use and the pattern itself. The pattern only spans through 3 octaves and also contains simple 1 note rests that have a certain sound. There is a chance that it is an mc 202 but if this was anything else besides an SH I would be very surprised.

  • @thunderheart530 Okay!

  • @AnthonyDavid94 Not to be an ass or anything lol. I own an SH 101 and just thought it would be informative to anyone that wanted to know. 0 negativity intended

  • @thunderheart530 Ah I see. Thanks for the info. Cheers!

  • That is some nice work on the TB,

Usually people just use it for bass

  • 1up for the TB-303

  • great beats, great melody and awesome breaks between harmonies and other chords. thumbs way up for Squarepusher.

  • That synth sequence always plays with my head because with no drums, my brain keeps thinking the beginning of the loop is at a different part, until the drums come in and show me how it is.

  • Best drum line ive heard in a while

  • YES FUCKING YES

  • yeahhhhhh

  • i just love the way he filtered the whole thing. i tried a remake of this track and the melody on itself is fairly easy, but my version doesn't even come within a 20 mile range of this piece of music. no god is worthy of listening to this damned!

  • @indvs3

Closest I came to emulating the general feel of the lead was by linking the filter to both an LFO and a MIDI-note tracker. I think there's another LFO-link somewhere in there with a shorter frequency but I'm not sure. Never did get it right (although it was kinda sorta close for a minute). Truly insane, indeed.

  • @indvs3 I'm pretty sure its just a 303, he just changes the cut-off env knob through out the track

  • @sternut8or i was already sure of that too. in my humble opinion it means that all those people, saying soft-synths do exactly the same thing as the original hardware, are wrong. it doesn't matter how good your generic 303 soft synth was programmed, it'll never give the same effect as the original...

  • @indvs3 I couldn't have put it better myself. I reckon that soft-synths sound a bit too accurate while the originals are a bit lower-fi and more natural, in my opinion.

  • @sternut8or hardware has always been much more of 'the real deal' and, because of the lower fidelity, always gave a warmer sound. another plus of hardware is that a knob tweak results in a sliding change in effectuation, whereas a hardware controller on a soft synth will return a stepping lag which is very hard to hide in your end product. i expect that at some point software will catch up, but not anytime soon...

  • @sternut8or Roland SH101

  • @MaffyMoose Oh yeah, I was wondering how a 303 could have gone up that high.

  • @sternut8or I have one, well 2 ones broken. And I cannot get this that high either. I'm sure he's using his custom pitch on his 8-track to get this.

  • @MaffyMoose Pitch on a mixer? Never heard such a thing. Then again, I've never really been acquainted with PA equipment.

I still cant believe you have two of them. I can only dream of working with real machines, I only survive off a demo version of FL Studio 9 on my computer.

  • @sternut8or Older analog equipment has alot of stuff like this

  • @sternut8or yeah you can get pitch on some mixers. But thats not the piece of kit i was on about him having. I dunno if you seen how it puts his music together?

anywayz, I have one that works, the other was dropped unfortunately, and the midi out port and a couple of keys suffered :(

I also have a Casio FZ1 (old skool), Alesis S4 "Quardrasynth" rack, Quasmidi Quasar(awesome), TR707, Oberheim Matrix 6R to name a few pieces i have.

Although ableton live is a fun bit of software :)

  • @MaffyMoose Oh cool. I've seen him a couple of times on youtube but I've only seen him play with pitch on his reel tape. But bro, you don't have to make me more jealous with all your machines, haha. So how high can an SH101 go?

  • I don't think Ernest listened to. Thinking that this tune might kill his poor heart.

  • MY FAVE SONG OF HIS !!! PURE GOD

  • reverb on acid synths makes me feel euphoric.

  • THIS TUNE IS FROM GOD

  • Send your like or dislike to the button!!!

I mean it! Cool words from ye all don't finish the question...

    Greetzzz, Auphexre.

  • 7 people got pushed from their little squares when they listened to this, and couldnt handle it.

  • Anyone knows how he make those drums ?

  • This is what robots listen to while they're "sleeping" (sorry i'm a dork haha)

  • Amazing composition.

  • this is the shit right here

  • yes mate, you fucking right. This is a masterpiece!

  • god the melodic synths and then the sick kicks and drum breaks pure epicness at the finest hour

  • Hey I have a question....an ID actually. What other squarepusher track sounds like this and has a beautiful melody? Its on a mix on my pc, without a tracklist. It may not even be Squarepusher but it sounds very much like this.

  • @StricklyPhone maybe Tundra

  • This and "My Red Hot Car" are definitely my favorite SP tunes!

  • Merde! This is Squarepusher; just Amazing. Thanx 4 sharing the tune, guys!

  • Cool, but... why is it named after Ernest Borgnine?

  • Because the build up sounds a bit like Airwolf starting up.

  • Stunningly good music. Even better title! Squarepusher rules!

  • BoC'ish, or BoC is Squarepusherish

  • this is my fav song

  • @ssips720 totally awesome

  • beauty,

always takes you back.sort of tune i can imagine playing if you attain enlightenment.

  • one of my FAVORITE songs

  • the lower frequencies slightly disappear at 2:01

from that point the synth has a crescendo

then we have a climax made by the main melody that gently comes in from 2:49

finally, the bass drum stops at 3:07

    3:13=MADNESS

    Squarepusher=pure genius

  • @Bollo2

You must have a terribly good headphone to listen to that.

  • Comment removed

  • yes this was also my favorite tune on feed me wierd ....I have since seen sqpusher twice, but he has never played it live ...thanks for uploading !!

  • listen to this stoned its amazingg

  • hell yes dude, im right there with you..

  • @cuplex me too dude ! this is pure magic !

  • Still one of my favourites, and with Ernest looking so ernest, I have to laugh at the parody between the melody, and the satisfied look on his face. Priceless.

  • It is 'looking earnest'

And I don't think he looks 'earnest' - I think he looks like a cheesy fucker.

  • amazing song!!!

  • what a chillout tune

  • gawd .. if only squarepusher made tunes like this now... !!!

His new work is boring wankery sad bastard music

  • This song could be a gateway into hard drugs. Watch out! You have been warned!

  • it's funny 'cause it's true :)

  • Absolut wonderful, fascinating and dynamic drums...I love it <333
