  • What about relief? Your misleadng people about setup!

  • "Different truss rods go different ways" LMAO. This "expert" series if so full of bad information it's almost entertaining. Just please don't do anything he says. Dan'l Terry may be a talented designer of cool looking guitars, but he should have visited his own factory and learned how a guitar works before making these absolutely terrible videos. The fret work ones are the scariest ones. Sorry Dan'l but it's true. I'm tempted to make a video series specifically for victims of these.

  • Yes let me just grab my instruction manual for my 1972 acoustic..

  • This is a good video of how NOT to adjust your truss rod!!! You must be kidding!

  • taylor guitars come with a comprehensive manual that explains in depth.....truss rod adjustment. FYI

  • instruction manual ?isn't that a chord book ?

  • before i learned how to do it myself, i sent my takamine acoustic to guitar center to have truss adjusted cos buzzing on upper frets. when it came back, it was fixed but the d and g strings were damaged from the allen wrench rubbing against them during adjustment. protect them strings when you do adjustments i use a old cloth or even tape....

  • insturction manual?..is that the book written in chineese, japenese, and spanish that i get tired trying to find english that came with my guitar?...ay cruuuumba !!!!

  • This clown's not even a friggin' guitarist, much less a luthier....he's an 'artist' ??? Wtf expert village?? I like the way he slammed the tuning keys on the table in the first vid. @@ Wow. Credibility lost here expert village.

  • 1:07 the truss rod adjustment tool is an allen wrench- if you didn't know.

if you don't know what an allen wrench is... i can't help you.

  • @bluegrasslives60 Thats expert village for ya

  • How to adjust the neck of your guitar: 1. Find a really good guitarist who owns an expensive guitar & ask who he uses to do his neck adjustments. 2. Take your guitar to that person.

  • I think that this video is NOT an "expert" video but you shouldn't call him names. As for some people saying that you should take it to a shop... sometimes people can't afford to take their guitar to the shop! Especially when it's something that you can fix yourself. I learned how to change my guitar pickups through youtube! I did my own installation and the pickup has been working great! Soooo, if this video doesn't suit you, look up another one!

  • he is really wierd but cool i would knock a few beers back with him

  • @TracyFClark thats not nice at all.. this guy the u called "moron" spent his 2:22 minutes in his life just for u too watch him.. not call him bad names.. if u didnt like the lesson move on to another video and be greatful that this guy is willing to help u!!! have some gratitude man...

  • @TracyFClark while most players like a little relief. most "shred" guitar necks are flat with no relief.

  • Hail! o great master!.......We salute you, you are clearly a guitar god.

  • Wow these comments make a confusing video all the more confusing!

  • I just wanted to thank all of you for your comments, im bored and stumbled on to this video. I have never laughed so hard at anything in my life...

  • the tuner keys ouch

  • what??? guitars are supposed to come w/ an instruction manual?

  • wasnt scared til i saw...2:02

  • @insaneinthebrain1978 You shouldn't be trusting expert village in the first place they're the worst.

  • @isitcosimblack idiot village more like

  • Im sure this has been recorded with good intentions, but this guys as handy as a fart in a spacesuit.

  • anyone else find this creepy? if you said no.... 0:55

    yeah..

  • this is pure shite

  • interesting noise coming from the depths his mind @ 2:02. lol

  • @TracyFClark wrong

  • Thank you for your videos.

  • haha should be called retired hobbyist village

  • I bet that dude did alot of acid in the 60s/70s. its funny how people think guitars are rocket science or something

  • i wish the words across the bottom didn't block the entire view of what he did.

  • No, you are the moron TracyFClark. This guy is dead on. Want maximum volume and playability? A totally flat neck and a shimmed or oversized bone nut will do the trick. It's simple physics. A raised bridge exerts more downward pressure and really drives that top. Of course this should always be done by a qualified guitar tech.

  • "..adjustment will be toward the counter clockwise,..hmmmm..clockwise in this case, because its backwards?" what dude?

  • instruction manual. like i have that

  • @zicuenca I own 5 guitars. Guess how many of them came with a manual. Not one. This guy's as full of it as a christmas goose.

  • This guy doesn't know what he's talking about... He didn't know which way to turn the bolt... What help is that?

  • @josephpatrow Really he just said it was backwards.

  • @josephpatrow it's expertvillage what did you expect man? haha

  • *upperbow

  • A perfectly flat neck WILL cause fret buzz if you're going to play with low action (which you should). You can't get good intonation if the strings are something ridiculous like 1.5cm above the neck on the saddle side. The neck should have slight underbow.

  • oh... so the neck has to bend a little down, (seen from the side?)

And wouldn't this just make the strings buzz even more?

(I'm a beginner to all this guitar-set-up stuff)

    BR

  • It's UP, I just made a typo.

After that hold down the first fret and the last fret on any string at the same time and see if there's any space between the string and the 12th fret (fret not fretboard). If there isn't, move the neck up some more. But the space shouldn't be bigger than the thickness of a credit card or two.

  • Ok. Thank you for explaining.

  • @byteresistor Depends on style and preference of course, but the following is perfectly doable with no buzz as long as the neck doesn't need a reset: a flat neck (no relief), 6th string height 12.7mm above the top measured in front of the bridge, and a 6th string action of 2.6mm measured above the 12th fret. That's my D-28.

  • You do not account for relief in the neck, when using a straight edge on the fret board touching the 1 fret and 12 fret there should be a slight relief in the 6th fret, you are missleading eveyone into thinking there should be no space at all and the neck is to be absolutely flat across the entire neck, other professinals indicate a relief.. Can you explain your setup on light of this fact?

  • It's Him! Check out reinos86

  • HOW TO TIE A SHOE-"First we start with a shoe...ah, here's one. You'll notice that this particular shoe has what we call laces. Hey folks, if you don't try, you'll never learn. Now this shoe that we are looking at does not need to be tied, but for the purposes exemplified here, we're going to assume that , in fact, the shoe needs to be tied." .....Long Pause.....scratches beard.......more pause & befuddlement......." I'll just fix that"......Pulls shoelace with subtle yet. wild abandon........"

  • I'm gonna guess this fool is a better-than-average businessman, cause this shit is bogus! I bet he owns a music store, someone told him people were making money selling adspace on Youtube. The idea is great if it offers a service. This video is a complete waste of time. 8th grade material !!!!!

  • He is drunk!

  • "Different truss rods go different ways"

  • hmm well if it's not warped, couldn't you get a guitar with a warped neck at least? i mean it's like he just noticed it was straght as he was doing it, and continued to adjust what didn't need to be adjusted.

  • Good advice, but this guys gotta be fried.

  • here is a story. I bought my guitar a few months back. I was tuning it, and I snapped my first string. The high E string. It was a stupid error that would not have happened if I wasn't a noob. The first thing out of my mouth was "now I know." How can I possibly know what I am doing if I don't try, If I break it i have no one to blame but me and mistakes are how people learn. SO rock out and adjust away, You will never learn if you have someone do it for you all the time.

  • I bet that neck is warped now, try taking some stress off it and prop it up on something.

  • a month ago this smart ass decided to be a jerk. Accept it for what it was, a tutorial on how to check the neck of your guitar and adjust the truss rod.

  • hello can i use diferent guitar strings please like those white strings please help me some one thankyou.

  • you leave the strings on during this?

  • you can if you want, just loosen the two middle strings so you can fit the alan key in to adjust the truss rod.

  • the socket on mine is stripped.. i can turn it down any more...

but from what you said looks like i prod did something wrong

  • Is counter clockwise right? or left?

  • Dude, look at a clock!

  • hahaha classic

  • as always

  • fail guy

  • should i try this i have got a guitar and the neck is mess up and i dont no to much about the truss rod

  • This guy is hilarious! "The neck on this guitar is not warped, but I'm going to screw with it anyway."

  • I remember gettign my first guitar about 5 years ago. It was beautiful... Untill I messed with the truss rod...SNAP!!! I had to throw it away. It was awful lol

  • if youtube is going to put commercials in the videos here .. I WILL NOT WATCH THEM and i will rate the videos a 1 out of 5. This video gets a 1 rating

  • Clockwise or counterclockwise....ouch, get it right man. This could be dangerous for kids trying it out....I'd yank this vid if I were the owner and redo it.

  • Like he said, some are different, check manual and company etc before.

  • It sounds like the bridge and the fret bridge by first fret may be too high. Check out videos on setting up bass guitar. They say that if you press on first fret and 24th or last fret, in between you should have no more space than to enter a credi card. So get a friend to hold frets and get a credit card (he he). There may be other vidoes on this for acoustic guitars. Just remembere that unlike electric guitar, the deeper grove you make cannot be reversed. So don't end up with buzzing.

  • I recently purchased an acoustic guitar. Can you message me and tell me how I would lower the action on this guitar. It is way too high, and the truss rod adjustment did not help.

  • @footballdropout82

It's probably your saddle height then. Just take the saddle out and file it down.. Just don't overdo it, and then try again.. If it's still too high, keep filing it down. There's a tutorial on filing your saddle down from the same guy on this channel, just search for "acoustic guitar setup", and it should be there.

  • You shouldn't screw with the truss rod to attempt to lower the action. You probably need to have the saddle either filed down or shimmed (the nut may or may not need the same thing.) Personally, I'd just take it to a luthier and pay the $35 to $50 to have it set up properly. cutting down nut slots is best left to a professional.

  • Agreed. When it comes to file downs I would def take it in, otherwise truss and saddle adjustments are pretty standard.

  • Try using lighter strings. If you have an acoustic, you can try a set of "tens."
