  • This is an excellent report. I wrote a paper on China last year and these information match my findings. It's refreshing to find a fair analysis of the country without the coloured lens of the mainstream political propaganda.

  • Cool~~

  • Worst type of party pleasing expat dog enjoying the happy life in Shanghai, parroting the chinese official line, while the bloodbath goes on in Tibet. In case you didnt know Tibet is not only Tibet Autonomous Region, Tibet is the whole Tibetan platau (you can see even Tibets border from space..). That is why we are talking about 6 million tibetans...KNOW YOUR FACTS, investors cannot trust their money with this guy who doesnt even know simple geographic and demographic facts.

  • I don't get your point - there a plenty of geographic expanses (defined and named by non-natives) around the world that don't equate to a particular nationality. Are you arguing for a Tibetan "lebensraum"? The external border of Tibet was established between the governments of Queen Victoria and the Qing (or Ching) Dynasty around 1890. The current governments of India and China by and large recognize them.

  • xizang can either mean "western store house" or "western treasure house". i personally think is is derogatory, the former.

anyways i also think that the mass protests in tibet are not solely due to inflation. tibetan people around the world have nothing but truth and the media working for them. that is why we want to make full use of the upcoming beijing olympics to shed light on the "peaceful" independece struggle for tibet. -bhod rangzen-

  • someone is telling turth, at least he did some study

  • Hi you got lots of things wrong. here are few of them:

There are more than 6 Million Tibetans and mroe than 7.2 Han Chinese imigrants in Tibet.

Tibet in chinese which is called shinjang does not mean "Western Store house" it means "Western Treasure House"

Dharamsala is not in Nepal it is in Northern India!

    Get better information first!

  • tsayang, I stand corrected on Dharamsala, which is, as you say, in India (Himachal Pradesh).

The population figure I use for Tibet comes from the China Tibet Information Center. The last official census of China, the 2000 census, gives a population of 2.62 million. This is the figure used by the United Nations (UNESCAP, for example). The numbers you mention may be possible but are not substantiated.
