I have had this unit for about 6 years and I still can't get it to work properly. Maybe YouTube can help.
When I do gigs I go for a few individual pedals and get a sound I like.
Biggest problem live with the GT-8 is that the different patches sound different when cranked in a live setting. Sounds good programming it but not the same with full band.
Also had very noticeable differences with the volume levels between patches even though my outputs levels are adjusted
IMPORTANT,, you must adjust the output of the gt-8 to match your system or it will sound awfull. most gt-8 owners dont even know about this feature and its doing them no justice. go thru your manuel and get your outputs and inputs set correctly if you want to hear the potential of the unit.
@CTROCK ,,, adjust your output levels. go to the output select and start experimenting with your sound. i also seen a video on here of somebody walking you thru it. or use your manuel. the gt-8 has some great distortions but you have to get those levels correct,,,,VERY IMPORTANT
I have had the GT-8 for 5 years and still don't understand it. I get a great setting with the band in rehearsals but at a venue the sound always sounds different and sucks. Think I will sell it (give it away) and go back to the Boss Blues Driver, Overdrive, Chorus and Cry Baby wah. Worked well for decades before I bought the GT-8 that seemingly needs an engineering degree to operate.
@doable1 That might just be the 'Output Select' button. I've only discovered what this does this evening and I'm confident it will make me sound better during our rehearsals (everyone in to a mixing desk then listening with a pair of headphones for each member). Previously I had it set to the JC-120. I don't own such an amp but it sounded OK through my Vox but through the desk; awful! Tonight, listening with my 'phones still awful until I set Output Select to Line/Phones and now it sounds good!
when i run my boss through my anp its good on over drive! but when i put on clean seting on my boss its still overdrived and sounds shit! how do i sort this out?
I had an X3L crap out on me on stage and I've heard of what happened to me happening a lot....volume changing between patches and a patch flat out being the wrong one. I'd go with a GT-8 or a XTL....which I've still never had a problem with.
i have trouble usin it. I DONT KNOW WHATS THE CORRECT LEVEL FOR THE PATCH LEVEL, THE OUTPUT LEVEL KNOB CAUSE WHEN I TURN EM IN A HIGH OR LOWER LEVEL EACH THE SOUND SEEMS TO CHANGE. THE SAME THING HAPPEN WITH THE PREAMP AND SOME DISTORTIONS. I HAVE A MARSHALL STACK MG100HDFX. ??SHOULD I USE THE PHONES OUTPUT FOR A LIVE PLAYIN?? THANX
help me out! the other day i was using my gt-8 and suddenly it got super "bassy". no buttons were touched, knobs were turned etc... it happened while i was playing! yes ive checked if somehow the bass was turned up but the number stayed the same as before. so if anyone has any idea of what this could be please reply to my comment!!!!
Would anyone know if it is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the EXP Switch (The button found beneath the expression pedal which you activate by pressing down hard with your toes on the pedalt). On my gt-8, if I even just lightly touch it with the pedal, it toggles the switch and this is highly irritating. Is there a way that I could adjust this so that I would need to press down much harder onto it?
Could someone please give me some advice on how to stop the t.wah patch from piercing my eardrums everytime I play a note higher up the fretboard especially when I pick the string a bit harder? I'm running my gt8 through a 50watt tube amp with all the amp modelling disabled. I found that LPF function is less painfull then the BPF and tried to cut the highs with an EQ but I found that this makes the overall tone of the patch too soft.
You need to go inside the wah parameters and lower the max value to about 60-70. That way, you are eliminating the top third of the envelope, the really harsh, abrasive part.
New to the gt-8 ove the sounds it gives me but having trouble "Understanding" the manual. Why wont it let me take the chorus off channel 2 but leave it on, on channel 1 ? when I try to do this it takes it off both channels, I have tried everything and am ready to throw it at the wall. Please help, Graham !!!!!!!!!
Can anybody tell, what is the difference between EXPRESSION SWITCH and EXPRESSION PEDAL ?????? I am getting too much confused about this. Not able to understand properly whats the use of EXPRESSION SWITCH. Please explain . thanks in advance.
The expression switch is the switch located UNDER the Expression/Wah pedal - Lean the pedal all the way forward and push down. Yup, it turns on your Wah, usually. You can assign this little switch to do many things.
Trust me....Im a pro guitar player. It took me like 2 months before I knew that switch was there. Im still embarrassed....
Does anyone know how i can disable the expression pedal? In some patches, i only want it to work as a volume pedal, and not doubble as anything else. How can i get the expression pedal to only be a volume pedal, and being able to press it down without the red light turning on? Thank you so much :)
refer to you manual on page 56-57 you have to set the volume swell as assingable but I would read your manual I screwed up mine a half hour before a show once and coulndt get the wah to shut off any of my patches

hi .. please tell me about FX-1 FX-2 in GT-8.. What is the uses of it exactly ? Can u please tell me in detail about it ? And also wat is FX chain. PLease anybody help me in this as i am new to the processor. Thanks in advance.
fx1 and 2 are various effects, like acoustic guitar simualtor, phaser or flanger. You can use them to add special tone or characteristics to your sound, dont overuse them. FX chain is the order of each effect and where it is placed in the.. chain. Different place different tone. You can go to bossgtcentral forums, good place for starting or advanced tweekers
the gt 10 is around 450 euros, the gt 8 is a loooot cheaper now and yes it is a lot harder to use than the gt 10 but its still worth it if u dont have the money for a gt 10
no. not on the gt-8. the new model gt-10 has a looper . and it works great. i highly recomend the gt-10 if ur gunna invest eny money in guitar effects cuz it dose everything.. and it dose it superbly
There only tiny difference in sound from the GT-8 to the GT-10, what the GT-10 features is that it is easier to use and it has got a different color, the GT-10 has less than half the amount of buttons and switches as the GT-8 and it has a shiny monitor panel. in my opinion this is what keeps me sticky to the GT-8 as you can drive a tractor over it and not even a scratch occurs, while the GT-10 is more "fragile" They're both still the best non-rack multieffect processors on the market.
does anyone have the gt8 and gt 10, if so, i have the gt 8 and is the gt10 better?? i was thinking of buying it, i love the gt 8 i use it to power 2 amps for a stereo sound. i think ill buy the gt 10, is it worth it???
Yeah dude, right on, "use the quick settings instead of tweaking every parameter one by one!" Yeah, awesome dude. "Hey mom! Listen! I sound like all the other trazillion geeks that use the Quick Effects on their GT-8! Isn't that wonderful? We all sound alike! To hell with personalized sound, to hell with musical signatures! Use the PRESETS and be one of the maaaaaaaaaaaaany!"
Tone comes from the fingers not from the effects. Hendrix/Vai/EVH/Satch etc all sound like themselves no matter what box they are playing through. Presets are fine, its what you do with them that matters......
i agree! Pod sounds only better on crappy hardware - i don't know why. But GT-8 is a professional stuff, sounds gr8 even through my AKG headphones, connected to an amplifier is just a killer.
hey i have a boss gt-8 but when i hook it up on my amp and put on distortion it gives lots of crappy sounds when im not playing. do i need a noise supressor for it or a better amp? just wondering if it only happnes to me
The GT8 is plastic, the GT6 is metal. There's not much difference between them other than that and a few useless extra effects... so stick with the GT6 I reckon. Some good stuff on my channel about multiFX unit, please take a look.
I own 3 gt8's there are all metal. And if u want to know y its because im the guitar dude in the band and i hold all the pedals and amps at myplace b4 a gig or practice because i have a lot of room.
Im trying to decide between the GT-8, and GT-10. The newer one is supposed to be easier to program, but is it a trade off, as far as effects options are concerened? I didnt see that "SOLO" button on the newer one. Can anyone explain the major differences?
there is no solo button u make the preset and when u hit the CTRL button ur tone gets sharper and automatically the preset changes so that u can play leads.!!! this is wat i know
I use the GT-8 through a Fender Blues Deluxe. Thats it. Sounds great. I went back and forth between the Xpod live and the GT-8. It didn't take long to see that the GT-8 was far better sounding in every way. Delays and reverbs are superb. I feel the overdrives and distortions are better also. A higher learning curve though. (Get the video) If you want to retain your warm, tube sound, stay away from the Line 6 products. Oh yeah, GT-8 has a 5 year warranty, Line 6 only 1 year.
hey dude.. i use the GT 8 as well.. and i still DO have things to know about it... what's this video you are talking about ? :) ...what's it called and how can i get it ...??
Hey man.. nice music...great guitar.... and btw.. i'm a GT-8 user myself... would it be much to ask if u can message me on youtube with your GT-8s configuration values ??? i mean to get that sound... coz no matter what sounds i make i still can't find nice clean sustained one.. i end up making it noisy... so if you could let me know about the level, which preamp u use...levels...values...i'd appreciate it so much....
hey dude.. i use the GT 8 as well.. and i still DO have things to know about it... what's this video you are talking about ? :) ...what's it called and how can i get it ...??
All i want to know is if this video is worth the money?
has someone seen the complete DVD?
I 've been a Boss user for many years y i finaly have a complete set of effects with the GT 8. why i got this simple theory: why change to a multieffect that i dont use because is cheaper and is a brand that i have used for many years.
* Outputs the input to LOOP to the SEND jack and the input from the RETURN jack with the input to LOOP (the direct sound), then outputs this to the circuit post-LOOP. Use this when you want to connect an external effect device serially in the GT-8's effect chain.
Yes you can, the "looper" is really more of a "phrase" catcher though that only has 2 seconds of recording time but it can be looped and recorded (sound on sound) indefinitley. Quite a bit of fun actually.
With the GT-8, do you have to use the pre amps? I have a Marshall DSL 401 tube amplifier and I don't want to lose any of my tone, but I want alot of effects in one unit that sound great. Will this pedal do the job? Other reccommendations?
hey, i have a gibson les paul and a Marshall 410 head, also a great tube amp. i also own the Boss gt8. the great thing bout it is that you can just turn off the awesome preamps that it haves and only use the unsupassable effects! it will certainly do the job! keep rocking!
I got this pedal at the weekend and i think itll take me a long time to find out everything that it does. but i think that this pedal will last me pretty much forever :P definately worth the cost.
I disagree Zoom equipment is garbage. one of my students has a zoom multi effects unit and all the effects sounded bad the Reverbs were terrible and the Delays sounded very muddy.
this actully helpful! I was going for the Gt8 but I talked to people and 90/100 of them said line 6 beats boss.... so I was gonna get the XT but the X3 is coming out so... GET the x3!
look i've been reading opinions from multi effects users for months now (still can't consider which to get) and all of them who tried both say podxt has shitty effects but greath distortions while gt8 has great effects and semi-shitty distortions (they sound very "digital")
yeah I know dude... the gt8 has more effects than the podxt... but the xt has better amp than gt8.... but hey dude, like I said.. get the x3 double as much amp models than the xt, more efx, it even have amp models for vocals and bass... and still, I have tried the x3... and its a powerful unit... I can recomend it to you
i think boss gt-8 has a better name to me... its older so it has more experience... and almost all guitarists use a boss pedal ( steve vai, joe satriani, yngwie malmsteen ) so i use the gt-8.
line 6 is to digital, computerised and all.
just like the variax thing... its cool to have 500 types of guitars in 1 guitar but it just isnt cool enough then really having 500 guitars :P.
Nice!

Im trying to decide between the GT-8, and GT-10. The newer one is supposed to be easier to program, but is it a trade off, as far as effects options are concerened? I didnt see that "SOLO" button on the newer one. Can anyone explain the major differences?
Echoplex1 3 years ago
there is no solo button u make the preset and when u hit the CTRL button ur tone gets sharper and automatically the preset changes so that u can play leads.!!! this is wat i know

Hey man.. nice music...great guitar.... and btw.. i'm a GT-8 user myself... would it be much to ask if u can message me on youtube with your GT-8s configuration values ??? i mean to get that sound... coz no matter what sounds i make i still can't find nice clean sustained one.. i end up making it noisy... so if you could let me know about the level, which preamp u use...levels...values...i'd appreciate it so much....
keep the good stuff up :)

Okay, now where is the rest of the video--the damn thing stops short of giving all the info, and there are no more created segments from this author.

All i want to know is if this video is worth the money?
has someone seen the complete DVD?
I 've been a Boss user for many years y i finaly have a complete set of effects with the GT 8. why i got this simple theory: why change to a multieffect that i dont use because is cheaper and is a brand that i have used for many years.
hhsantos67 4 years ago
The video is well worth the money. I learned more in 5 minutes using the video, than hours of laboring over the manual.

i HAVE gt-8 BUT NO MANUAL. cAN i RECORD & LOOP WITH THIS BOX?
cj33ward 4 years ago
yes, you can record and loop.
bjornsteffen 4 years ago
How would I access that?
cj33ward 4 years ago
To loop you must have an external effect device, and use it as a part of the GT-8...
- When you have connected the "effect device" to the GT-8, turn ON the loop (on the loop button :P).
- Select a mode (normal, dricet mix or branch out)
bjornsteffen 4 years ago
if you select NORMAL, you have to:
* Outputs the input to LOOP to the SEND jack and the input from the RETURN jack with the input to LOOP (the direct sound), then outputs this to the circuit post-LOOP. Use this when you want to connect an external effect device serially in the GT-8's effect chain.
bjornsteffen 4 years ago
Oh yeah, I was thinking of recording a phrase & looping it using the GT-8...
I run an old MXR Flanger thru the GT-8 & run it thru the effects loop.
So no recording capabilty with GT-8?
cj33ward 4 years ago
Oh ok... no you can't record with the GT-8.
bjornsteffen 4 years ago
Yes you can, the "looper" is really more of a "phrase" catcher though that only has 2 seconds of recording time but it can be looped and recorded (sound on sound) indefinitley. Quite a bit of fun actually.

With the GT-8, do you have to use the pre amps? I have a Marshall DSL 401 tube amplifier and I don't want to lose any of my tone, but I want alot of effects in one unit that sound great. Will this pedal do the job? Other reccommendations?
grammar911 4 years ago
hey, i have a gibson les paul and a Marshall 410 head, also a great tube amp. i also own the Boss gt8. the great thing bout it is that you can just turn off the awesome preamps that it haves and only use the unsupassable effects! it will certainly do the job! keep rocking!

I got this pedal at the weekend and i think itll take me a long time to find out everything that it does. but i think that this pedal will last me pretty much forever :P definately worth the cost.

I got a GT-8, I'm not really a knowlegable person with it though lol, took me a month to figure how to loop on it =/
But I can say hands down, this is the best effects processor I've had, I say get one now!!!!!

how do you loop?

zoom g9 is better and cheaper
Mahavishnu80 4 years ago
I disagree Zoom equipment is garbage. one of my students has a zoom multi effects unit and all the effects sounded bad the Reverbs were terrible and the Delays sounded very muddy.

i have gt8 and podxt both are great except with one function real time dynamics podxt dont have
psr3000pro 4 years ago
this actully helpful! I was going for the Gt8 but I talked to people and 90/100 of them said line 6 beats boss.... so I was gonna get the XT but the X3 is coming out so... GET the x3!
viddelt 4 years ago
most of those haven't tested the gt8. the pod series is much more popular thats why you got those results.
xZeeMx 4 years ago
no dude, they HAVE tried the gt8, and even more multi efx...
viddelt 4 years ago
look i've been reading opinions from multi effects users for months now (still can't consider which to get) and all of them who tried both say podxt has shitty effects but greath distortions while gt8 has great effects and semi-shitty distortions (they sound very "digital")
xZeeMx 4 years ago
yeah I know dude... the gt8 has more effects than the podxt... but the xt has better amp than gt8.... but hey dude, like I said.. get the x3 double as much amp models than the xt, more efx, it even have amp models for vocals and bass... and still, I have tried the x3... and its a powerful unit... I can recomend it to you
viddelt 4 years ago
Look the x3 has not improved in sound at all just the more options and you can put vocals and bass, the gt8 is better in quality.
Ocelot911 4 years ago
one thing that absolutely SUCKS BIG TIME about any pod is that you can't have two types of effects together.
for example- i wanna have some vibrato and phaser together on the same patch. well... no can do!!! i'm screwed! go boss.
yayayair 4 years ago 2
i think boss gt-8 has a better name to me... its older so it has more experience... and almost all guitarists use a boss pedal ( steve vai, joe satriani, yngwie malmsteen ) so i use the gt-8.
line 6 is to digital, computerised and all.
just like the variax thing... its cool to have 500 types of guitars in 1 guitar but it just isnt cool enough then really having 500 guitars :P.
08376 4 years ago
Dude i had a pod xt live but i sold it.
It sounds pretty fake to my ears and the build quality was really crap.
This is simply my opinion so dont go cursing me for not thinking what some of you may think.
Lukewhile7 4 years ago
i feel ya man, I thought i could solve my pedal problems with the XT LIve, but it was Shit...
think ima get the GT-8
aznjt 4 years ago
Wow! Someone that feels my pain!
Yeah the gt8 looks a lot better.
Boss have always made good and reliable products.
I am still a bit paranoid though.
I lost 350 quid from the pod!!
Cheers dude.
Lukewhile7 4 years ago
