  • Please forgive my ignorance gents... but which one is McCoy??

  • McCoy was a sneaky bastard,And a loose cannon.

  • and one heck of a fighter !

  • Clearly they're clowning, not sparring. Anybody who ducks his head in the way these guys were doing deserves to get it knocked off, which is what would probably happen.

  • A piece of history right there.

  • how come Corbet didnt want to fight Sullivan bare knuckle?

  • actually sullivan requested gloves because his hands were so beat up in the kilrain fight he was afraid to hurt them again

  • did corbett ever fight bare knuckle under london rules?

  • no he didnt, bare knuckle was dying out win corbett was fighting, only championship fights were bare knuckle

  • That was bloody funny.

  • No comprendee ???

  • What? I said it was "bloody funny", meaning it looked very funny. How does that mean I didn't understand?

  • It means that I did't understand your remark. No comprendee?

  • Several years ago I met an old gentleman who

was also a vintage fight film collector

He, kindly, displayed the complete version of this boxing exhibition for my benefit. It was great to see these old masters at work.

  • Can you get it and put it up ?

  • I wish that I could have obtained the complete copy of this particular video. But, the old fight collector, that I had mentioned previously, passed away two years ago. His family had also informed me that his vintgage boxing video collection was sold to another collector. In retrospect, I wish that I had obtained some of these vintage boxing videos.

  • Gentleman Jim Corbett and Charles Kid McCoy were some of the trickiest boxers in boxing history. I would give a kidney to see them both fight in their prime. McCoy once fought a deaf man. He dropped his hands in the middle of the round and started walking towards his corner. The deaf man, thinking the round was over, started walking to his corner, and McCoy turned around, ran over and knocked him out.

  • lol is that true, not the most sporting of boxers

  • yeah, the referees back then let the fighters get away with a lot more than they do today.

  • That is shocking, was that legal then?

  • I don't think they put anything about it in the rules, so it probably flew by. I don't really know how the fight ended, whether the ref stopped it or the deaf guy was counted out.

  • lmao. good value!

  • is that even the real McCoy?

  • This film was made during World War I--DECADES after their fighting years.

  • have seen the complete version of this sparring exhibition and it is truly an impressive display of ring science. Unfortunately, the old photos of early boxers in combat pose does give one the erroneous impression that they fought in a stiff manner.

  • Where did you see the complete session? Is it available?

  • their real fight was one of the greatest controversys in sports history. What do guys think? any video on here?

  • It is likely McCoy took a dive. I'm of the opinion Corbett would have won anyway.

  • Why don't they wear those pants in their matches?

  • Just the style at the turn-of-the-century.
