  • this "thing" far surpasses the definition of a "song".

  • Totally immense

  • This song gives me goosebumps when i listen to it. Well, same with most of Tool's songs. But this one in particular.

  • this song took me from a big tool fan to a friggin worshiper. this song is epic!

  • Or, in Maynard's own words.. (Taken from Spin Magazine): If the music had been so inspirational to his fans, he says, then "what the f--- have you done with it that you need me to keep doing it?" Maynard gave a great gift to all of us in sharing his journey with us. It is up to us now to do something with it, and be thankful for it.

  • @T00Lology100 -- Tool is done. Following through the course of their work is like flowing through the 5 stages of loss or grief. In the beginning: denial, isolation, and anger at the inherent evil in society and individuals (Undertow). Then, anger fades to sadness and bitter contempt of reality (Ænema). Derision and despair turns to a desperate search for peace, the beginning of acceptance (Lateralus). And finally acceptance brings closure to a life of turmoil. (10,000 days).

  • @buggerysauce if 10,000 days is closure to life, maybe the next album will be the afterlife! lol

  • @buggerysauce that's got to be the biggest shit ever to come out of a human mouth ( I do hope you are human). How the fuck would they know they would last that long to make a record for every "stage of loss"? Be serious man. Maynard was full of anger on Opiate, it's really obvious with songs like jerk off or hush. Then came Undertow, which was a more civilized and enlightening form of pushing people's envelopes in terms of religion (disgustipated), private parts (4 degrees), fictional stories

  • @buggerysauce. Then comes Aenima, which brings to mind female satisfaction vs. love (stinkfist) drug using (Third Eye which by the way the comedian on the record is a friend of theirs); he even laughs at us for wanting to be like him and listening to what he has to say (which was complete bullshit at the time) on Hooker With a Penis. Lateralus is the first record which surpasses human emotions as a main topic of song writing, with The Grudge being the only song on the album bout a human feeling.

  • @buggerysauce It's pretty clear that his feelings evolved into something deeper, more useful, more self-rewarding than just being fucking angry all the time... so STFU

  • I was here!!

The best band I've seen live and this was definitely the highlight of the show.

  • @TheJunMan i was there too buddy

  • beautiful. so beautiful it fucking hurts.

  • this is awesome!! oh wow, wish they would've played this at the show on june 23rd would have made the show even more mind blowing, but actually i heard that they don't play wings pt 1 or 2 live anymore because it takes too much out of maynard emotionally, which is understandable. lights are amazing, props for the vid

  • i love how the visuals get like hyperspace

  • Love your comment GODSLASTBREATH....

  • i think for this song, it would be cool if they had some kind of water system on the ceiling, where it sprays water on the crowd to make it feel like it is raining.

  • 2 best artists of the modern age

    john lennon

    maynard

  • I loved 10,000 days and am so excited to see what T00L comes up with next. They're the best

  • I was there and it was superb.

Must go and see them in the states next time.

  • Just came from listening to Led Zeppelin & Peter Frampton finishing off with TOOL thank GOD 4 real music.

  • man, thi is so BEAST!

  • August 2nd can't wait!

  • the bass line is so simply.. which makes it so powerful and effective.. thats why i hate those fags who play speed metal.. its just noise, showing off and scales.. its pointless?!?! anyone can do that? but can anyone write 10,000 days?!?! fuck i dont think so.. this song is SO EPIC! gives me chills.. this song could go for an hour.. its fucking genious.. i love it.

  • Especially when you take in account how long it is and how much time Justin spent on it. It's brilliancy at its best.

  • hey,fag...it's good to like all music.those speed cats play slow too.douchebag!

  • i totally agree, the whole song together with wings for marie is 18 mins, and yet. it doesnt seem long enough..like it should go on for longer.. maybe thats jsut cuz its so dam good :P but yeh i agree, its like that with alot of tools songs, im a guitarest and ive learnt alot of ther stuff, the guitaring is really rather simple, but so amazing. i soo wanna see them live..

  • I know right...

  • @ROAHHHH it ends far too soon everytime

  • Why do people sing along in the crowd? so lame...

  • Have you ever been to a concert? Obviously not.

  • this song is justin and maynard at their best. what the fuck this is tool at their best. this song is better than beethoven's 9th

  • Awesome, was at that gig the song took a new perspective after that.

  • I cannot wait for july 19th in salt lake, Tool at energy solutions center

  • me either, it will be EPIC.

  • Whattheflick is totally right. All I know, greatest 20 minutes of my life this was.

  • Man how is adam holding those notes so long? Delay???

  • I believe he's using an epilator (serves as an e-bow (try googling 'e-bow' if you don't know what it is)).

  • Na man I read an interview with him where the interviewer asked him if he was using a e-bow and he replied o god please dont ask me if i really use an e-bow. lol I think its just lots of gain while holding the note to where it morphs into feedback.

  • Epilady is what its called

  • Yup

  • Pro Tip: If you're going to share a live song done by Tool, please, don't sing to it. Think about the children.

  • this made me laugh lol..very true. beautiful song

  • Maynard is the only one who should be allowed to sing this song. i bet half of the fans dont know the meaning. Maynard wrote it, he sings it.

  • Everyone knows the meaning. It's only a song, if it was truly that personal and he didn't want anyone else to sing it, it would've never been released.

  • im ganna put a question out here for u all...(its hard for me to type right now im shaking) would u rather have maynards mom alive? and not have this song? or the other way around.

  • Have his mother alive. Of course. If you say otherwise then you don't "get" this song at all.

  • im not saying i wouldnt want her alive but then you would never hear this amazing song

  • I dont think anyone gets it.. Its about neverending life. the full circle

  • No it isn't. Not even close. Wings for Marie and 10000 days take place at his mothers funeral as he reflects on her life and how it impacted his own. His mother suffered from an aneurism for 27 years (10000 days). And if it wasn't for his mother dying he would have lost a lot of his inspirations for a lot of his music.

  • you have to understand the beliefs here. your wanting to dissect the song till its heartless and scattered. everyone will interpret it differently. Its a beautiful song, and i think it has to do with life, more than death. even though in the big picture its the same thing.

  • I am not saying it isn't a beautiful song but I am telling you it isn't about "the circle of life". Go read the interview in Revolver, what I described is Maynards own words essentially, not my interpretation.

  • maynard's mom was suffering because of the dicease she had so im glad that she finally found eternal rest and peace

  • Look Him in the eye, look Him in the eye, and tell Him:

"I never lived a lie, never took a life, but surely saved one.

  • is there a shitty background singer or something, like the cameraman?

  • This song Pt.1 and 2 is a beautiful to his mother, very heartfelt and emotional. This song to me not only shows the torment he has gone through over the death of his mother but also the inner divide he has when it comes to the belief in god. He seems to be pleading for her to find salvation: "Shake your fist at the gates saying, I have come home now! "

  • He isn't pleading for her salvation, he's saying she's earned it.

  • I wonder if MJK told the band before hand that this would be a tribute to his mother. According to the band members, Danny, Justin, and Adam first create the music and MJK later comes with the lyrics. This song is one of TOOL's masterpieces, along with Lateralus, and among other songs.

  • maynard's best written song. love it

  • I agree. It is close between this song, "Lateralus, or "Parabola though. Hell, it is hard really to pick the "best written song" out. I would like to say that "Lateralus" was the best because the lyrics,# of syllables within the lyrics, and the time signatures correspond with the Fibonnacci Sequence which is unreal.I cannot comprehend how they were able to do that..But thats TOOL for you and what we have come to expect from them. Perfection in a music industry gone to hell.Way ahead of their time

  • Such an amazing tribute to his mother. One of the best tributes I've ever heard/seen.

  • blablabla to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just listen to th e REAL GRAET SOUND

  • I only pray heaven nows when to lift you up, 10,000 days in the fire is long enough your going home.

that part gets me every time.

absolutely amazing song, you can hear how tormented maynard by this and i can feel hes hate (with god) and his saddens for his mother, and the frustration over his mother never turning away from god even though she gets no help

  • Yeah but there are arrogont dumb founded dipshit's that call there self's tool fan's this is a song where everyone need's to get there lite out and lighter's and absalute silence. and bowing head's down. but its rarely you see that.

  • i would probably react the way you said you should, but in deffens of the "dumb dipshit's" is there a right way of reacting to a song? i always believed that music is up to the listener to interpret as she or he wish (The Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder) the only reason i can see of acting non-according to your feelings might be of respect for Maynard.

  • guliberto10 Jesus was 33 when he died not 27.4 witch = 10,001 days

  • (continued)

She never lived a lie and saved countless lives (was a volunteer paramedic and devoted christian). Her struggle lasted 300 days.

300 days in the fire is long enough - she is now home.

  • The first few times I heard this song I thought it was powerful. It's now beyond powerful.

Today, a friend died of cancer after a year long fight. This song just happened to play while i was on my way home and wow did it hit me. The friend who died fits the song so well.

    (to be continued)

  • stickman:its 27 years,his mother was paralyzed and was in weelchair for 27 years.thts approx 10000 days.

  • 9855 to be lagit

  • abt the high hopes thing u r right dude ,,,,, gr8 fucking song

  • Stickman-how did you know that? I knew it was for his mother, but I didn't realize she was paralyzed and the duration of the affliction.

  • maynard has said thats what its about

  • for those of you who dont know, this song is about how maynard's mother (judith) had become paralyzed and died 10,000 days later (36.4 years)

  • That's also the age that Christ had when he died, giving more meaning to the lyrics in the song.

  • My favorite Tool song. We've all felt this way about someone who has left our lives (for me it was my Aunt) and it's awesome MJK was able to articulate it so well...

  • 10,000 days and the fire is long enough !!

  • 10,000 days in the fire is long enough

  • far too long. This song gives me chills each time. Hearing it live the first time I did was something I could never explain in a manner that would do it any justice.

  • wow

  • This song is to Tool what High Hopes is to Pink Floyd.

  • "You were the light and way

That they will only read about..."

    Fuck, what a song.

  • This is the most perfected song ever, You can literally feel him singing to his mother. Give me a thumbs up if you agree.

  • Every single one of Tool's songs are absolutely fantastic, but this is Tool at their deepest and most thoughtful, definitely the best song they've ever written, actually, this is definitely the best song ever written by anyone. I've had the 10,000 Days CD since it came out and this song still movies me every time I listen to it.

  • Beautiful...

  • I think there's something in my eye. *sniffles*

It's wonderful to hear the audience sing along!

It actually has made me cry- So many peoples around the world "longing for their wings",

and the Fire together with the lyrics "Give me my wings"..!! Wonderful Video!!

    Thank you for sharing!!!!

  • damn that's more or less where i was stood, takes me right back :D

  • Epic brilliance, best band in the world=TOOL

  • Set as i am in my ways and my arrogance, Burden of proof tossed upon the believers,

You were my witness my eyes my evidence, Judith Marie, UNCONDITIONAL ONE

  • Damn! This video makes a little made. I'm from Seattle but had tickets to the Portland show. It's to bad I-5 flooded making to a 2 hr. trip into a 7hr trip. Should have made the trip.

  • i would've ditched my car and swam...

  • I would walk for days if it was the only way I could see Tool. Screw your car.

  • Dude Im at costa rica, and Im takin a plane next time they are round here. So you figure.

  • Give me my give me my give me my give me MY WIIIIIIIIIIIINGS

  • why is justin sitting

  • probably cause he's playing a different style on his bass

  • the quality is god awful but fuck it moved me

  • dang, 4:50 is nuts...

  • tool is absolutly amazing,i cannot believe this.... every time i listen to there music i feel this divine force..... i get this understanding for everything, and when i stop listening to the music everything makes sense for a while, after seeing tool live i rode the high from that concert for a month.... so glad i found about this band, no band has changed my life more then tool. remember, we are eternal.... pain is an illusion..

  • i couldn't agree with you more

  • "It's my time now, give me my wings!!!"

  • Why do people talk through concerts?

  • i like the actual song, but the sound quality of this video sucks

  • one of the best songs ever written by tool, and possibly by anyone. tool 4eva!!!!!

  • best lyrics i've ever heard. it's genius. shakespeare wouldn't even touch this!

i wanna direct a video for it. i've got a visual thoughts for it since its release.

gooooood! this song is so beautiful

  • lol

im sure adam can do a great job on his own.

if they ever do something for this

  • Thanks so much for posting this. It's my favorite Tool song and it took me 3 concerts this tour to see them do it, so I'm glad to have this to remind me. Goosebumps all the way through...Next time please show more Justin =)

  • why wont that guy shut the fuck up next to that camera, i hate it when acne plauged 23 year olds sing

  • Best ten minutes of my life.

  • some people write some gay shit on the internet. you dont identify with this song ragamage666? um, yes u do

  • I'd love to see these guys live. Their music is truly amazing and genius.

  • I've seen them play this twice, and each time is like a musical orgasm=] Def one of the best bands to see live

  • Fucking love it how the crowd starts singing then gets into it.

    Fucking amazing.

  • give me my ,give me my wiiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggggssssssss. cue goosebumbs .fucking stunning.

  • Why the fuck does this song makes me cry? And more when they play it live. These guys are so talented.

I can't believe they were in plans to come to Monterrey, Mx. and didn't come to an arrangement :(

  • i love how people sing here like they can identify.. just listen and be amazed. you DO NOT identify withthis song. it is maynard's and his alone.

  • Ragamage666, how can you say that people cannot identify with this song. This song goes deeper than the lyrics, the music invokes the suffering and mourning that anyone who has lost a loved one feels. That's why many people (myself included) are moved to tears by this song.

  • and not only that but the irony...his mother was a devout Christian

  • ooo my favorite part of the song too!!!

  • "Judith Marie, unconditional oooooooooooooonnnnnneeee!!!!!"

I get shivers every friggin time!!

  • I use to repeat the last part... starting with "Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance"... shit.. i just can't stop repeating it .. hahaha

i like it because it surprises me his adoration to his mother..is beautiful being such an expressive person hes spilling his emotions in this song..

  • Why do they have chairs in the floor area, if knowone is going to site? Cool concert, but sucked having to peak over everyone's head.

  • LEARN TO SPELL U FUXX!!

  • I didn't spell anything wrong, crackhead!

  • You spelled quite a few things wrong.

  • Everytime I hear this song, it makes me feel so emotional; It's such a beautiful tribute to the death of his mother :(

  • this song is friggin bamf

  • Is it just me, or does everyone else get goosebumps like mad when they hear this song?

  • its not jus u

  • Looks like the same light setup in San Diego......

  • o how was it in san diego? i wanna go to the next concert and i am in san diego :)

  • the best song of tool

  • '][' [[]] [[]] ]]_

  • awesome, i've never seen that done before. great clip too. tool is the best

  • thanks so much for posting this!! this is my fav. song off 10,000 days and i didn't get a chance to see this tour. it looks like one of the best!! the lighting and screens are so epic!

    *Katie*

  • ive seen em twice :D

  • Tool is great live... i went to c them live with my friend and we were like 5ft away for adam jones

  • god bless his mother

  • Goosebumps at the climax for sure. Absolutely phenomenal live.

  • Good video thanks!!!

    Ah Maynard: sorry...

  • Pretty good video for a mobile phone. I hope they play this when I see them in Brixton. :-)

  • I hoped they would play it in Poland this year, but they didn't :/

  • thanks so much for filming that

  • I still have goosebumps after seeing this twice in concert.

If you take the actual album version and fast forward to :48 seconds in, then start the Youtube version with the sound off, you will have a pretty close snyc.

    TOOL is legend.

  • most epic climax ever. goosebumps anyone?

  • Shit, I need to get myself a cellphone like this.

  • Nokia N70. Good little phones, but they are really slow to operate- get an N95, they're loads better :)

  • i saw them live in jacksonville, this was the best part of the concert

  • Still gave me goosebumps, even if it was on a cell phone! I wish i had been there, Thanks!

  • How did you get your cam in there?

  • Was on my mobile phone. Later when I was taking some pics from the front a security guy threw a bottle of water at me- was a nice shot too, went all over my phone.

  • I was there... but I don't rememember them being this good. Thanks for a great video.

  • good video! the sound could be better, but it´s difficult to be better... :) fetch me spirit, the son and the father... :)) beauty!!

  • :) It's well hard to get a good recording live, cuz you don't know if it's good till you watch it after the show! A proper cam is always gonna be better than a phone though, but according to the tickets no cams etc were allowed :(

  • <sigh> I was being sarcastic.

To clear it up, it might well be me, as I can't sing, but I still like to try :)

  • ok sorry for my ignorance ^^ no problem with tryin :D

  • argh dude u cant sing!

  • but nice vid ^^

  • <mental Tool fan> How dare you insult Maynard like that! </mental Tool fan> :P

Heh, cheers mate, glad you liked.
