The 2007 movie had some human characters in the movie that weren't necessary to begin with. Special effects and CGI were good but don't make up for crappy characterization. The human characters are the main focus, (with robots on the side). There was like zero characterization for the Decepticons, ecluding Megatron. What was Bonecrusher and Devastator's characters like? You don't know because they were in the film for only 5 minutes and then died.

Like any halfway decent action film, I want action sequences to be seperated by character development (preferrably for the TITLE characters instead of the mostly meaningless human cast) and exposition of the story/world from which they come. If you don't care about who the characters involved in the action are, then there's no sense of peril/danger and the action's impact dissolves into nothingness.
