Saw him sing this at the Red Lion Folk Club, Westhoughton in the early 80's and he autographed both his LP's for me. What a performer.....not just a singer, an artist!!! Long may he carry on!
If any of you would like a performance at your local club, village hall, festival etc, then please get in touch with me directly at . . . . and then come his Emailadress
@MusikHHClip Wish I'd known about him retiring a lot earlier. I saw Harvey in the late 70s in our folk club in BMH Hannover and was blown away. I would love to see him again but live in South Wales so regrettably I won't be able to make his last gig. All the best and thanks for such a wonderful time Harvey.
If I'm up, I listen to because I want to, If I'm down I listen to this because it lifts me up. What better reasons can there reasons can there be to listen to a song? Thanks Harvey.
Margarita, well Harvey's done loads of fantastic songs over the years and this is ones of his best. It's from the album of the same name but if you can, check out Lot 204 from the same album - a genius in his art (the album also includes Able Baker - another gem).
My personal favourite of Harvey's songs - but love them all - first came across him in Germany in the 70's - saw him again in York a few days ago and he still rocks! - deserves to be MUCH better-known
a beautiful song as all of your music is ... if you ever find your self in kuwait where there is a thriving expat folk club there are many fans who would be fighting to have you stay as a guest
I have to say i have never been into folk music until now these songs of Harvey Andrews are so good and for someone who seems to be getting on in life still has a magic voice what a magic singer/songwriteri what a pleasure it is to hear these songs i have read some of the comments from your fans i too would like to wish you well and hope that you are still performing as i for one would love to come and see you play i got to say you move me with your songs all the very best
I tried to visit his website tonight and found that it is no longer!
I know that he was Ill, has he not got better?
If you are no longer performing Harvey, I would just like to add my thanks, for your music has so much meaning, invoking happiness, sadness, even tears.... , but never indifference!
Harvey..we all know you are out there and you sometimes check the comments on this site. How about leaving a comment for your friends and fans here? (No idiot imitations please)
Thanks for your songs - lets see a few more on here eh?
my grandfather was at the somme and survied the great war ..my mother still has his black and white picture of him in his unifrom on her wall ,not in the sunlight ,i cant hear this song without thinking of him ,a man i never had the opertuinity to meet, without a tear welling up ..and i cant look at his picture without thinking of this song
@skipy936 : Harvey is not the best singer from England or GB! ´He´s the best singer on our planet!!!! Unfortunately he will be closing his big career Oct. 2012! He send me this Mail :
After nearly 50 years on the road I've decided to announce my last year as a full timer. I'm putting together a year of my favourite gigs and making my last visit to these venues. The year will finish in October 2012 with a final gig at Lichfield Guildhall.
I have seen him live. The song that most touched me is 'Soldier'. I am from the North West of Ireland, and this is the first song that I have heard, that tells us the agony and compassion that an English soldier showed before he died. I was so upset. I always knew it, but to be presented in this way... I cried. I have always known how pointless the troubles in Ireland were, as so many Irish died or were murdered. It is so much better now. I love going home. Harvey, what a fantastic song.
This man is a folk music 'evergreen' he's a truly brilliant musician singer/songwriter. Such a pleasure to see his live performances and his recorded music is incredible. I am so pleased to see some more video of Harvey on 'YouTube' at last thanks so much for sharing. Harvey if you are reading this thank you for your songs my friend just keep on keeping on! And please dont get this video taken down..!!
Still probably my favourite from all Harvey Andrews' extensive repertoire of songs. Shame the quality isn't all that good but thanks for posting it anyway, need to get the CD out now and listen properly!
Harvey has announced that 2012 is his last year of touring, so sad. See him if you can...

He's playing Worcester 5th November. He has slowed down a hell of a lot this year, but retirement? I bet he still keeps his hand in.
