  • you have to keep your arms straight to hit serattus, thats the same as a one arm dumbell row if you do them right.

    And so far all have been succesfull.

    We all learn whats the most usefull exercise for ourselves. It maybe so that it doesn't help for you, to bad , but others may have great progress of it. So keep training your ways and keep the comment for yourselves

    This is a GREAT exercise for javelin and if any of you knuckleheads actually knew what goes on in the shoulder joint of a javelin thrower, then you might look differently at the way this exercise is being performed

  • It would be best to do with bended elbows to the max extensium then go up until head and pull it up with triceps-=)

    or just make 180* with straight arm

    and after that just triceps from forehead to up!

  • im a javelin thrower i can say from actual experience that this lift helps more with flexibility. this lift will definately improve your throwing, if you use proper technique.

  • how good are cables at expanding your rib cage? The aspect of flexibilty, which is extremely important in javelin throwing, is perfectly addressed with this workout.

  • I'm not a javelin thrower. But I"m a hammer thrower and I train with Javelin Throwers. I studied exercise physiology... but none of that matters. You can do the exact same thing with cables. There are also machines available with can do the same thing... But whatever u want to do buddy is up to you.

    But replacing this exercise by a machine, then i'd rather choose for the cables and the way i do it.

  • tomkeerpunt, don't listen to everything guys like jmm are saying. hes right that there are other excercises that work those muscles, but that's not even whats important in this case. this pullover exercise your doing is excellnt for javelin because it is sport and event specific in that you are imitating the throwing motion while working the muscles. jan zelezny can do a pullovers with 220kg. he prides himself on it and challenges people to match it because of how important it is. keep doing em

  • I don't know if there is one exercise, but if there is one, it's the pullover. You can do it on machines if you don't like using barbells or dumbbells. When I was throwing over 200, I did pullovers with 300 lbs on machines, and 160 on a barbell.

    I think that Pitkamaki's trainer knows much more about exercises than you do... And because it's not a machine makes it even harder because you have to take care of the balance of the weights!

  • Look that jmm doestn know anything about javelin because my trainer study exercise physiology,it is true that you can hit the that musle on maschiner but efect on javelin wont be same you will loose flexibility,all throwers shot discus and hammer cant admit that javelin is most dificoult discipline and there is lot of specific works to do so..I have 50 discus and 16m shot and 70m javelin I know that javelin is most hard,,,...cheers

Jav thrower I'm certainly glad your trainer studied exercise, it is important in order to take athletes to the next level. But that has nothing to do with what I know.

    All the throws are complex, Javelin is the most stressful on the body. Why are u telling us your PRs, it means nothing in this discussion

  • I think that Pitkamaki's trainer knows much more about exercises than you do... And because it's not a machine makes it even harder because you have to take care of the balance of the weights!

  • it doesn't hurt your shoulders at all it works triceps, lats, and rear shoulder really well. If you think that is a dangerous exercise go watch some pro javelin throwers in action.
