@jamilaafg i had the same prob..but figured it out. make sure that the person u are making a call to has a web cam, if not then there's no video call option.

@Fixy97 yes you can use the camera light, there are apps like flashlight and moodlight that let you do that.

to download apps you need to have internet on your n900 (3g/2g or wifi) whichever available. then you just go to the App. manager and download apps.

just ask if you have any more questions.

@inditech96 go to settings then voip and im accounts, then click on New and look for skype. from there you can put in your username/password and make it work.

@SuperJDMFan I don't remember if the n900 allows you to do that by default, but I know that you can install extra software to add more IM services like MSN. you can find what you're looking for in the application manager on the n900 or just go to maemo DOT org and search for "msn" you will find many options.

@luvlyluv95 you can just use wifi for free or use a data plan from your network provider which costs money depending on the data plan. either one works for both skype and browsing.

i was talking about the interface as well...

i've had an n900 for a while... if you're doing anything processor-intensive (playing a flash video, for example) you get lag. or sometimes it depends on what apps you have open. firefox is a resource hog. it runs slow itself and makes the phone slow as well...

granted, i've never owned an iphone, but from the little i've used it, it's a little snappier. then again, i haven't used the same quality of apps on the iphone... guess it depends

@faisalm1991 So I am thinking very seriously between two phones. iPhone4 or the n900. My biggest question is will the n900 sync well with my Macbook? I love apple products, and really want my phone to transfer photos well and music too. But the touch screen iphone is concerning me since I have big fingers and the qwerty keyboard on the n900 looks really nice. What do you think of n900-Macbook connectivity?

My last experience with this was terrible; my blackberry didnt connect well to the laptop

@torque122 i have no experience with n900-mac connectivity, but i have tried it with both windows and linux and it is fine. i'm guessing that it should work ok with mac os, and of course better than your blackberry.

i recommend buying an n900 if you like the open source and freedom aspects of it, you can do everything with this phone. if you want to be locked down and taken care of by apple (which can be good for some ppl) and for good mac os compatibility, then get the iphone4.

@torque122 you can also wait for the next "mobile computer" from nokia, as i think the n900 was just an experimental device and is getting old now. nokia is dumping away the maemo os of n900 for a new one called Meego (which should support the same apps)

@faisalm1991 yes it's going to be the N9. I'm waiting for it. Appearently it was supposed to be out by the end of the year but it might be out by Q1-2 of 2011. I'm desperatly waiting for it lols. I wanted to get the N900 but for 500 dollars on old technology would be a waste so ill just wait for the n9. Nice video btw :)

i got my n900 a few months ago for like 300 on ebay.. not bad i think...

anyway, im wondering if the n9 is going to be an upgraded n900 of sorts, or is it going to be radically different?

i really like the fact that the n900 is more of a mobile computer with phone capability rather than just a phone with apps..

i also like the fact that it's a real gnu/linux platform

i hope the new meego OS is similar in that way.. i hope they keep the freedom and openness of maemo in meego

@faisalm1991 well Apple has to start somewhere. Thing is, facetime's implementation is much smoother than this. It's an open platform. Eventually, the others would adopt it, and that would expand facetime's usability. It's only a matter of time.

@juicyclamlover u need to download the nokia software updater, go to the backup app on your n900 (it comes with it) and backup your contacts, settings, app list, etc..., then, plug in the phone through usb in pc suite mode and update using the nokia software updater.

if u have trouble, i am sure you can find full detailed tutorials if u search around on google. you can always ask me too.

@darrell92483 it only requires credit if you try to call an actual phone number. you need your friends to be online on their skype on a computer or other device. they have to add you to their friend's list or you can add them. then other options should appear with the skype logo when u click on a contact. it should say "skype video call" with the person's username under it (not phone number)

@RightWingBashers The problem with flash is that Apple and Adobe are just having stupid disagreements, The iphone is capable of running flash if Apple becomes friendly with Adobe and allows flash on their devices.
