@coldversecase A lot of the problems you hear about are actually from the old rotary on the RX7. Sure they need a little bit of TLC and regular oil changes, but they're just as reliable as standard piston engines nowdays.

I thought it looked like hell online, my dad encouraged me to go look at it, the test drive sold it, it was a blast to drive and looks better in person. When my lease is up, they say my "joke" will be worth 11 grand. I am getting 26 ish mixed. If you were selling this car in 3 years, you are going to get allot more than 11k for it don't you think?

Dude I have raced BMW 650 Ci, Dodge Charger Srt8, Cobalt SS , G35 , G37 type S and I have beat every single one of them by more than a car length. I can assure you the RX-8 would not be able to beat any of the cars I just listed in a street race let alone touching a 350z on a street race. I admit around the track etc..... top gear doesn't count bc jeremy clarkson is bias towards the 350z. However Fifth Gear did a show on the rx8 and 350z. Drove them each around the track by themselves and the Z had a better track time and therefore won and was named the better car.
I am speaking only about track purposes. The same driver did a hot lap in each car and the Z had a faster track time. As a daily driver the rx8 gets worse gas mileage. It gets a combined 18 mpg while i drive my Z very hard and i've managed to recieve an 18.7 mpg on my dash. I could easily get 20mpg. But you're right it is personal preference. I however would take the sports car with both better track times and better fuel economy.
03/04's are DE and they run low 14's with a couple in the high 13's with a good driver, stock 05/06's are Rev-ups, they run high 13's, with a couple around 13.6 stock w/a good driver 07/08's are HR's, they run mid 13's dipping into the 13.1-13.3 range with a good driver.
So I am comparing 07/08 350z with 07/08 Rx8 ;) Funny how you choose to grab the old 350z models back in 2003 and grab their quarter miles without realizing that its 09 today.
The VQ is known for having one of the nicest sounds. Just search on youtube "best car sounds" and the Z is one of them... And a Z will destroy a RX8 is the driver can launch right. Its the wheelspin of the Z that will let the RX get a chance to be neck and neck. RX8 just has a way better interior imo. But the power and torque suck. This is a fact.
Sound is subject to opinion. There are idiots who love the sound of a Civic with a straight-pipe. I've driven a 350, and yes it sounded pretty nice. If you like growling more, you'll like the Z. But I also like the sound of a breathing rotary engine. None of the vids on youtube do it justice. But I have heard Z's with aftermarket exhausts and I HATED them. Just sounds too harsh. Not even like a V6, it really is just...noise. Stock exhaust sounds fine to me.
you are right about 60mph. rx8 will be hang with till 60mph and after that, 350Z will just walk all over it. it does not creep away. it just pulls away pretty hard. check out 1/4 time for both car. theres a huge gap.

IMO the 8 could keep up with the 02-04 350z on race tracks and 1/4 mile, but when the 350z reaches the 300hp zone, then the rx8 gets into a bit of trouble.

Depends with what kind of track. More bends the more it will favor the rx8. But a moderate race track will favor the Z. Just watch 5th gear, and the Z beats the the rx8 by a second or so. So it really comes down to the race track. The is a all around better performance car.

also, s2000 is track king in price range.

top gear doesn't count bc jeremy clarkson is bias towards the 350z. However Fifth Gear did a show on the rx8 and 350z. Drove them each around the track by themselves and the Z had a better track time and therefore won and was named the better car.

There were other tests, like Motorweek, Road and Track etc... they all chose the rx8 against the 350z.
Then again it's about preference. But it;s much harder to daily drive the 350z compared to the rx8.
It's more of a preference.

I am speaking only about track purposes. The same driver did a hot lap in each car and the Z had a faster track time. As a daily driver the rx8 gets worse gas mileage. It gets a combined 18 mpg while i drive my Z very hard and i've managed to recieve an 18.7 mpg on my dash. I could easily get 20mpg. But you're right it is personal preference. I however would take the sports car with both better track times and better fuel economy.

nah... I always get above 20mpg. Driven hard I'd lose more, but I don't baby it.
To me it's more liveable, bigger trunk and more space in general :)

since you seem to be a little lost:
03/04's are DE and they run low 14's with a couple in the high 13's with a good driver, stock 05/06's are Rev-ups, they run high 13's, with a couple around 13.6 stock w/a good driver 07/08's are HR's, they run mid 13's dipping into the 13.1-13.3 range with a good driver.
So I am comparing 07/08 350z with 07/08 Rx8 ;) Funny how you choose to grab the old 350z models back in 2003 and grab their quarter miles without realizing that its 09 today.

The VQ is known for having one of the nicest sounds. Just search on youtube "best car sounds" and the Z is one of them... And a Z will destroy a RX8 is the driver can launch right. Its the wheelspin of the Z that will let the RX get a chance to be neck and neck. RX8 just has a way better interior imo. But the power and torque suck. This is a fact.

Sound is subject to opinion. There are idiots who love the sound of a Civic with a straight-pipe. I've driven a 350, and yes it sounded pretty nice. If you like growling more, you'll like the Z. But I also like the sound of a breathing rotary engine. None of the vids on youtube do it justice. But I have heard Z's with aftermarket exhausts and I HATED them. Just sounds too harsh. Not even like a V6, it really is just...noise. Stock exhaust sounds fine to me.

rx8 can not hang with Z after 2nd gear.
you are right about 60mph. rx8 will be hang with till 60mph and after that, 350Z will just walk all over it. it does not creep away. it just pulls away pretty hard. check out 1/4 time for both car. theres a huge gap.

OK where's your 350Z? I try to race them all the time but they never throw down. They just keep driving along like they don't see me. My recruiter even has a 350Z and he declined an offer made by me to run. I know I won't win but they don't smoke RX8's like you claim they do.

Okay fruity loops the RX8 had a quarter mile time of high 15.0 with Edmunds and the 07+ yr 350z quarter mile of 13.6 with trap times for RX8 being 94 and 350z being 103 MPH do you know the difference between 1.4 seconds in a quarter mile and almost 10 Mile trap speed in the quarter mile THOSE WERE PERFORMED BY EDMUNDS, Don't even compare Rx8 to the 350z or 370z man I dont even waste my gas racing Civic SI, Scions and Rx8 The only cars i race is Sti and evos and above why waste gas on slow trash?

rx8 has better handling but 350Z have enough power to overcome its handling and beat rx8 in track. now in drag mode? 350Z will just dust rx8. check the 1/4times for both car. one is high 13sec to low14sec car and other one is low to mid 15sec car.
these facts has been proved so many times over and over again now.

i thought best time rx8 got in its stock form was 14.5, but if you say so.
yes, rx8 can get in to 14's but how often that happens? rx8 owners should held a party if they can even get high 14's most of times. it runs low to mid 15's ALL DAY.
and thats why i said its low to mid 15sec, car. in other hand, if i apply your tactic to 350Z, its low 13sec car. it seems point less since both all day run and best record of both car has similar gap in between.

But there is a difference, depends on what model. The 02-04 350z were high 13's low 14s. If its the one with 296-306hp then i will agree with you.
IMO the 8 could keep up with the 02-04 350z on race tracks and 1/4 mile, but when the 350z reaches the 300hp zone, then the rx8 gets into a bit of trouble.

I don't know who's RX8 you are talking about. My RX8 does 14.5 with really basic mods. Also 350z 13 sec. stock ,you must be out of your mind!!!

He's not out of his mind. An older 350Z will easily do high 13's, and the new ones will do mid 13's with the new engine from 07-08.

The RX-8 destroys Porches 911 GT's out there, so unless you want to spend allot of money on a nice porsche I dunno...
The RX-8 is the track king, and I actually feel sorry for the rest of you that haven't given yourself the opportunity to drive one.

totally fuckin true man. i blew my cobra up and was looking for a new ride and test drove an rx8. its a beast on the twistys man. best balanced car ive ever driven. better than an evo, a wrx, vette, a mustang, etc.... all these things are faster in a straight line but the rx8 is more balanced. im an american muscle guy for life but when i drove an 8, i went back like a week later and bought one. i dont regret it at all, except for the rotary engines oil consumtion, but no biggie.

Depends with what kind of track. More bends the more it will favor the rx8. But a moderate race track will favor the Z. Just watch 5th gear, and the Z beats the the rx8 by a second or so. So it really comes down to the race track. The is a all around better performance car.

also, s2000 is track king in price range.
heck even 350Z beats rx8 in track if track is not curvylicious. it has enough power to overcome the handling and extra weight. rx8 is a good car but its just not at same level as 350Z, s2000 and damn sure for 911GT series. its even in lower class in SCCA.

@HuckFoly track king, idk about that, cornering king, yes. it doesn't have the power of other cars in its price range or class. the only thing rotaries are good for is hp for its size and weight. its torque is shit. my buddies race and have owned an rx8 and a 350z at some point in time. they post better times with the 350z on the track they usually use but they loved the rx8. they'd say the z tolerates corners but the rx8 was made for them.
