It's great that Heath Ledger knew this song when he was so young. It's one of the best ever written. However, Jeff Buckley did NOT write this. Leonard Cohen (Canadian) did.
@ChakraW thank you; i was gonna say it too. I'm not sure Cohen wrote the first verse tho. I heard a version of Cohen doing the song & that first verse that Jeff sings isn't there.
This video made me want to google pictures of heath as a teenager... he was such a sweet looking kid. so sad. such a funny wide nose and beautiful smile...
Hallelujah is by Leonard Cohen!!! don't forget the original poet--singer... Heath was about as good a singer as Cohen was---no one can match Jeff Buckley though Adam Lambert approaches his level, in my opinion
What??? Do you realize what you're saying. Jeff Buckley is one of the most divine artists, his songs are touching heart, soul, heaven, sky, water - everything pure and beautiful. His lyrics are deep and sophisticated, Adam Lambert can never reach Jeff's talent, and purity... It's not just about voice abilities and timbre, it's about the art, the music itself. Jeff Buckley's songs came from his heart for the hearts of all people... He's lived for music, for beauty, for love...
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S HEATH!!!!!!!!! amazing video. I can't get over how Heath is singing this song. This touches me more then I could have ever imagine. I watch GLEE and he could easily star!!!! GO HEATH WE LOVE AND MISS YOU!!!!!
Air guitar loll - they goofing around together ..Heath Ledger became the legend he is today, and the support from friends & family surely contributed [x
Ironic - is it not. Both Buckley and Ledger (extremely talented young men) died before their time. What's even more ironic is that they both sang Hallelujah with all their heart and soul. It has been said that "only the good die young."

Anyone who ever knew heath: He was my roel model and life, before dark knight as well, and it just tore me apart, his death. I think just hearing his voice helps me get through things without him.
Cohen has different versions with very diverse verses. I think it's been cut & pasted so to speak. I think perhaps Cohen wrote too many verses to put in one version and just uses the ones he likes whenever and wherever -- jsut a guess though.
i dont think its cohens version, first off its faster, and the verses are from buckleys and i think the biggest hint is that he sayss " yaa" just like buckley does not "you" but "ya" which is characteristic in Buckleys version
oh please Prizak1 don't talk like this..i mean, death is everything, death is the only main important thing in life, even if its just secondary..its really great and "good" when u think you are in love with him and everything but when i hear you saying this "death is nothing" don't know how to say.. 'gossip', you can't be serious. jeff buckley didn't wanna die, it was just this stupid accident u know?so..i think nobody should say something that make some folks think his death wasn't that direful
this is jeff buckley's rendition... the cohen version sucks. th only crdit i give him is writing th lyrics. not the music. Buckley's was so much better
Absolutely....Cohen is a terrible singer (and at least admits it).
Buckley's version puts Cohen's to shame....he was so wonderful, in voice, in sincerity, in depth, and is missed badly in a superficial business of mediocre talent.
I agree he's not much of singer at all, like dylan though, he was a poet, his songs were about the words, i prefer jeff's version aswell, although i appreciate Cohen was a genius for writing the lyrics in the first place. Thats the beauty of covering a song, you can make it your own. I went and listened to the original 'Mad World' by Tears For Fears, and really disliked it, The guy who covered it, and gave it more fame, turned it into a masterpiece, This is what i think happened here with Jeff.
that is clearly health ledger... i don't understand your skepticism. jeff buckley was well known in both france and australia (where health is from). it just looks to me like some college-aged guys havin' fun / one who went on to become a famous actor. ps - the song was written by leonard cohen.
that's actually amazing harmonizing
