  • ANNOYING

  • I'm about to turn 28, and I don't feel anywhere close to middle age, probably because I still get acne.

Well, if all middle age women look like you, middle age won't be so bad anyway.

  • 40 is the new 30 and 50 is the new 40 and lets face it ,100 years ago people would be old and dying at 40 ,I travelled the world as a Professional DJ in the 80s and funilly enough at 50 often DJing for an over 40s age group Hard to believe that the average pensioner comes out of the 60s flowepower sex drugs n rock n roll woodstock era, which so many young people wish they had. your as old or as middle aged as you feel.

  • A good thing about hitting middle-age is that your car insurance is so much more affordable than when you're 17 which is nice !

  • Indeed! And if you've played your cards right you're more likely to be able to afford your dream car to go with the insurance! :D

  • yes - i didnt get the sportscar, i got vanity license plates.. this counts right? i gave up makeup on most days, and yes the bra, just doestn seem as supportive. Luckily i have good skin and i feel childlike inside! haha

  • I've never managed to keep up daily make-up. WAY too much hassle!

I say embrace whatever stage we're in and keep having fun. Age doesn't define how we are at all. In fact the older the get the more confident we should feel to do what we truly want to do rather than give in to outside pressures. Life's too short to pander to other peoples perceptions of who we are and what we should be like!

  • Very good vlog! I agree with you. It's not always nice to be classified as middle aged, but... lol It has its good points. I just turned 28 last week and was called "Ma'am" the other day for the first time. I almost died. lol I'll go for Mrs. or even lady, but ma'am just sounds soooo old to me!

  • It's those little things that jar our self-perception isn't it! As far as I'm concerned I think I'll always feel like I'm 19 inside, and being treated as older always makes me feel a little strange!

  • I guess this means i'm now in the later stages of my middle age? Thanks for reminding me!

It's not how old you are, it's more a case of how old you act & think, imho.

Age is not such a big boundary, or stigma these days, i'm very pleased to say.

I'm sure we can all think of examples of people who don't act their age & those who act far older than their true age.

And btw, i'm pretty happy being 51 going on 25 :)

  • I think people only have a 'mid-life crisis' if they are trying to cling to an age they are not. There's nothing wrong with growing older and enjoying whatever you enjoy-it's that desperate grasp at clinging to a youth you'll never return too that looks so pathetic. I don't see you doing that, you seem pretty comfortable with who you are, where you are, and with your age.

  • I am liking middle age. I think I could give the 80yr olds a run for their money.

  • Good for you :D Some mature quicker than others. It's all about knowing what you want, not wasting time on the things you can't change, and enjoying the simple pleasures I think!

  • Nice summation. I like.

Agist is right - and we celebrate things that are fake. It's completely fucked, IMO.

"Middle age" is IMO the cross-over stage between having no freakin' clue to having a few clues but still perhaps missing several but not giving a crap.

I wouldn't go backwards on the timeline if ya paid me!

  • Same here! I'm enjoying the journey!

And I realised I was growing up and becoming more mature when I noticed that the more I seem to learn, the more I realise how little I know. I think full maturity will be blissful in my self-acknowledged ignorance!

  • interesting topic, I think it's all a matter of perspective - of course when we were in our teens then 30+ seemed ancient but now that we're here... well, it doesn't seem so old at all. Forget age 30, 50 or 80 - it's all about quality of life.

  • I've noticed that as we get older, myself and the people around me have started upping the age they consider 'old'! It's funny, but at the end of the day I suppose we all use ourselves as a point of reference, so what we consider young or old changes as our own age changes.

Quality of life is definitely more important than age!

  • Different aspects of my life are in different ages... I think I hit middle age at about thirty-nine when my misspent youth caught up with me and I became diabetic from eating a lot of junk food and drinking too much beer. My partner claims that because of my attitudes I'm old before my time, and when I really get old people will need to look out! Inside I'm still a boy of eight or nine, happy in my innocence and filled with wonder at everything that I see. In reality I'm 45 which is half of 90.

  • Apparently we're supposed to get happier as we get older because we learn what makes us content and don't bother having anything to do with people or activities that we don't like. But individual nature comes into it too-a person who is naturally grumpy at 20 will probably be a grumpy old person too. I say just keep in touch with that inner child and enjoy it!

  • I'm in the "post second adolecent pre "Hey you kids get off my lawn"old fart segment" of middle-age. I like to call it 49.

  • heehee :)

  • Getting old just means your body gets worn out... not your mind...

  • Well said :)

  • True age does not have to mean your mind has to suffer, although it still needs regular exercise and use to truly flourish!

  • I think the terminology is not important, what is , is what you do with the stage you are in, as long as you do your best and appreciate the best things you are good.

  • True! I think I just find it silly that people react so strongly to being classed middle age, to me that isn't an insult!

  • your vlog just reminded me of how much youth is wasted on the young. Although, it also depends on how healthy people are, as well. I think if people are healthy and enjoying living, that's all that should matter. :)

  • Yep, age does not define quality of life!

  • Of course back in the Middle Ages we would now be in our old age and unlkely to be aroudn much longer.

Anyways we still wear outrageous clothes and try to look cool wearing shades - maybe that's what they did in the Dark Ages!

And then of course we can reminisce about those crazy teenage years: the Stoned Ages!

  • Ahhh, the memories! :D

  • Ah, but you still look young and hot, and you still have Faith. Peace and love.

  • Gee Thanks :)

  • i love old people.

  • I love some old people!

  • That was great "Mississippi Wisdom"! It's a good thing I am younger than you guys so I don't have to worry about it for many many years :) LOL

  • some people are Forever Young! ;)

  • Well when viewed as a phase in life I can't argue with your very valid point, but I won't be subject to the common stigma of being classed as 'passed it'! Whether I like it or not, we live in an image conscious ageist culture that is constantly driven home to all our peers and non-peers by the media.

As you can see by the comments on my video, in our culture, we are nowhere near middle age so I've got a few more years left. Nice try gorgeous ;)

  • You're middle age, and that makes you incredibly interesting and exciting to me!

    Love you darling! ;) xxx

  • When the gray hair starts showing, then I can be as exciting as Richard Gere. For now I'll be content to be as exciting as Demi Moore's boyfriend lol xxx

  • Demi's such a cradle snatcher. . . ;)

I just now pulled out a silver hair from my own head and considered posting it to you as proof that I am seriously NOT 19!

But hey, Demi's older than me, and she's still sexy to you right? I can be your younger model ;) heehee

  • You already are and will always be that younger model! And oh, about Demi Moore, that's "hubby" to you ;)

  • go die

  • . . . nah. I thought about it, because you were so eloquent in your persuasiveness, but all things considered I think I'll wait a while if circumstances allow :) Have a LOVELY day sweetie-pie!

  • haha i actually laughed at that

  • A kid gave me his seat on the bus a couple of months ago.... I'M TWENTY THREE!!

I look forward to my thirties, i think it's a time when you truly know yourself and what your about =)

What annoys me is people not seeing old people as PEOPLE, they were young once too, it's pretty sad!

  • LMFAO! 23!? OMG!

But what a nice kid! When you say kid do you mean child or teenager? Maybe it was respect for an older person not a concern over whether your knees could survive standing LMAO!

Exactly, people are people, at every age! There are differences between age, personality, culture etc. But we're all people. Peter (geriatric 1927) has been such a wonderful example of that on youtube!
