  • how does it get that sound? he pulls all the stops

  • Bombardes FTW

  • Bravo! Cheers from Brazil

  • There is the very new organ (Aubertin) in St. John's College , Oxford.

  • Cet orgue est la merveille des orgues Occitans dans un écrin extraordinaire

  • c'est tout simplememt superbe

  • The sound this thing produces is incredible

  • If you want a treat search "St Maximin Bach". I'll be uploading more from St Maximin during the coming week.

  • i want one

  • Plus précisément, cette pièce est un Grand Chœur, no 13 de la Messe Royale de Dumont (Journal d'orgue no 6) de JJBC.

Cette écriture plutôt mince sonne de façon grandiose sur un tel instrument!

  • That instrument has a fiery sound. The French sure made some great organs.

  • Beautiful playing and sound on this spectacular organ! And no 32s!

  • The Pedal reeds extend down below C on the pedal board to AA which is in the 32' octave and explains the thunderous low notes.

  • Yes - have you played there? I'd love the opportunity sometime. The AA is on the bottom C sharp - those pedals can really catch one out. I got very confused with such an 1690 instrument in Genoa!

  • I love how the lights are turned on when he starts playing. Epic!

  • The sheet music for this has been put out by Fuzeau (fascimile) and also by Chanvrelin (Paris) edited by Nicolas Gorenstein. It is a great piece to play.

  • You asked if there is any organ in England competing with the bombardes. The answer: No!

You can find them just in France and Southern Germany where they were built since the 18th century.

  • Are you aware of any organs in England that can do justice to the French Baroque? The Tickell at Eton for instance perhaps? Others?

  • In short hardly any. There was a decent Grand Jeux at Oriel College Oxford, where I was Organ Scholar, and most of the stops were there apart from a Cromorne. Chichester Cathedral up to a point, but severa; key stops on the wrong manuals for French classical music, and obviously in equal temperament. Such a shame that this wonderful music is almost entirelu unknown in England.

  • Thanks for this detail. I am trying to put this repertoire, and the organ as an instrument itself, more on the English concert agenda. I have put together an instrument in Sussex to achieve such versatility - see videos "French Baroque Masterclass" demonstrating Gross Tierce and Grand Jeu and "organ in my bathroom" for some Lasceux demonstrating the Cromorne, Cornet and Grand Jeu.

If you would like to practice, perform or promote such repertoire in UK, all are welcome - phone 01342 850594

  • @latribe; "The fantastic Bombarde stops are perhaps the most shockingly brilliant I've ever heard. Where else is as amazing to hear? In France? Is there any organ in England that competes?" Rouen, France (St. Ouen Abbey) has a thunderous 32' Contra Bombarde that Albi Cathedral can't even compare to, I think you'd even agree with me? literally the 32' Contra Bombarde of St. Ouens rumbles the whole entire building from the ground-up.

    ._.

  • @poopingeneral he is speaking of Baroque Bombardes. not Romantic

  • @poopingeneral yes st,Quen has the best 32' ContreBombarde in the world.

  • @poopingeneral i can completely agree. this organ is nice but st. ouen is the best in the world. the 32 foot bombard on Ouen is just something i could never even imagine. Cavaille Coll was truly the greatest organ builder as well.

  • @latribe Ottery has been said by Brian Thurston to be able to do Spanish music very well because of the powerful reeds, I'll try some french Baroque on it for you soon. All the best to the family.

  • @latribe i know they are competely different styles of organ but do u really think these bombardes can out compete notre dame cathedral-the most powerful organ in the world?

  • @latribe - Bernard Aubertin organs in Oxford (St John's College) and Aberdeen (King's College). Aberdeen got theirs first. No, they're not Albi, nor do they have Albi's acoustic, but they're pretty damn good from what I've heard. Proper French classical organs.

  • @bachprofessore Maybe Selby Abbey-?listen to F.Germanis famous interpretation of Regers "Halleluia Gott zu loben" on this stunning Organ

  • Nice organ. I have played it once when I was younger. really a great sound.
