I was able to meet Troy and Bill at the Filimore, Detroit about 3 months ago. These guys have been my favorite band for so damn long. These guys are so humble and thankful after all there success and time as a band. They continue to write music that they love to play, and play what means a lot to them. That's hard to come by nowadays. Long live the Mastodon!

You would definitely notice if they overdubbed the vocals. There are many more factors that can make your comment invalid. Obviously they're not the main act of this festival, these German dudes don't want to listen to Mastodon most likely, they want to hear more straight forward metal (Iron Maiden)

Ie around the ep which I believe was 2000 so your little thing about other bands while correct is a tad over the top. Neurosis are immense but pre 2000, Dillinger haven't made a good album since Miss Machine, and to be honest Converge's early stuff is better. Also machine head don't count since they have been round since 93.

Ofcourse, most will argue that it is Mastodon that aspire to come close to Neurosis, including Mastodon themselves. And many may argue that ISIS and Dillinger are masters of their own realm. Those are just examples of similar bands in sound and quality. I didnt go into the more classic american metal giants, like Slayer or Dream Theater or Pantera or Sabath or Tool. Nor into international metal.
