Hands down Yamato is the best story ever told! Now that i have watched the live action movie a dozen times it leaves me still wanting more! I fell in love with space battleship yamato when i was 10 and love it even more at 43.i cant stand when people claim that yamato ripped of star wars or battlestar galactica,Yamato was around long before and it was lucas seen at theaters in japan watching it when first released.Seeing this in live action brings tears to my eyes....

But seriously this is called Space Battleship Yamato and its an Awesomee anime from the 1970's and 80s (also known in the US as Starblazers) and its basicly about the IJN Battleship Yamato being Ressurected into a Space ship to save earth from the Gamilons in series 1 the Comet Empire in Series 2 the Dark Nebula in the 2 Telemovies and th Domel empire in the Final Yamato Theatrical Movie ( this video is some sort of remastered CGI box set of the 2nd Series :D ).

@gaxxag Depends on the angel that you're looking at a ship from. Being a Navy vet it's interesting how perspective is lost when viewing ships.
Take a look at pics of the old Iowa class BBs from the front, top, and then from the side. From the side they look incredibly long, much longer than from the air.
Though in the series they could have extended her fore and aft sections by a few yards to accommodate her new propulsion and main weapon system. You can look up her stats and compare too.
This is a commercial for a Yamato-themed pachinko machine (wiki for pachinko)
My Japanese is a total loss, but I can read some kana and パチンコ means "pachinko" and "CM" stands for "commercial". Plus, I saw some other clips that confirmed it.
On the happy side is - if this is for a pachinko, the movie will be MUCH better (I hope) ^^

@doobtribe Thats probably because you have no idea what it is. This is a CGI re-animation of the opening of "Space Battle Ship Yamato", one of the most influential Space Opera Anime ever made. Concepts from this show filtered down into others like Macross, and even over to the US in TV Shows like Battlestar Galactica. Its funny to think that you're probably a fan of more than one show or movie inspired by this.

As a kid going to the Mall bookstores, I used to glance over Sci fi pop culture illustration magazines on late 70s and early 80s sci fi programming and there used to be images on the SB Yamato in full color in special segments of those books. Astroboy, Gundam, Space Battleship Yamato, and Macross set the standard for epic story telling in entertainment media. If it hadn't been for them we may have had to wait longer for all of the modern epics (B5, Lost, Heroes, BSG, etc) we enjoy today.

実写版はけっこう話も設定もしっかりしていて、期待してなかったけど観てみたら良い作品でした。面白くなかった人はアニメとして観たらダメだと思います。普通に一つの作品として観てみたら楽しめると思います。あとこれは一分ちょっとの作品だから模型とかCGとか使えて、映画に同じやつを使うのは資金的に無理だと思います。

@patchin1 Lucky you, I have to wait for it to be released on Blu.Ray here in Europe. How was the movie? No spoilers please :) And BTW, I bet the Yamato would win against the Enterprise. She has a Wave Motion Gun, the Enterprise has no such high-powered weapon. And the Yamato is a far more elegant and beautiful ship, and she has a long history :)

@gaxxag Depends on the angel that you're looking at a ship from. Being a Navy vet it's interesting how perspective is lost when viewing ships.
Take a look at pics of the old Iowa class BBs from the front, top, and then from the side. From the side they look incredibly long, much longer than from the air.
Though in the series they could have extended her fore and aft sections by a few yards to accommodate her new propulsion and main weapon system. You can look up her stats and compare too.

This is a commercial for a Yamato-themed pachinko machine (wiki for pachinko)
My Japanese is a total loss, but I can read some kana and パチンコ means "pachinko" and "CM" stands for "commercial". Plus, I saw some other clips that confirmed it.
On the happy side is - if this is for a pachinko, the movie will be MUCH better (I hope) ^^

@doobtribe Thats probably because you have no idea what it is. This is a CGI re-animation of the opening of "Space Battle Ship Yamato", one of the most influential Space Opera Anime ever made. Concepts from this show filtered down into others like Macross, and even over to the US in TV Shows like Battlestar Galactica. Its funny to think that you're probably a fan of more than one show or movie inspired by this.

As a kid going to the Mall bookstores, I used to glance over Sci fi pop culture illustration magazines on late 70s and early 80s sci fi programming and there used to be images on the SB Yamato in full color in special segments of those books. There definitely was a heavy influence from that anime. =)

They really, really, really need to do an updated version of the series to take advantage of the latest CGI animation technologies and techniques, as well as slip in some really cool Earth Defense Force battleships based upon some other equally famous dreadnoughts from history... @Kagetora2010 Not sure if you've seen the trailer for the live action movie coming out in December but check it out. Fully produced in Japan for around 20million US (2billion Yen). I definitely want to check it out as a fan that grew up on the US release of Starblazers.

As an old school anime fan of the anime series and watching it as a kid PLUS having the opportunity on a few occassions to meet its Director, Noburo Ishiguro, at Anime Expo, I am especially excited for this movie. @SpikeCBT1 Ya definately, I'm with you, wish I could be there too. On another note about classic anime it was cool to see that gigantic Gundam statue go up in Japan. Astroboy, Gundam, Space Battleship Yamato, and Macross set the standard for epic story telling in entertainment media. If it hadn't been for them we may have had to wait longer for all of the modern epics (B5, Lost, Heroes, BSG, etc) we enjoy today.
Gundam and SBY were the game changers for animation story telling.

By the way, don't you think it's pretty obvious that the battle fleet you see at 0:47 is modeled after the U.S. Pacific fleet? The ship you see here is 'Andromeda,' the flagship of the 7th fleet of "Earth Defence Fleet."
