What modern day comedian is as funny as this without swearing on the box? This guy made a few shows late in life where he swore a bit but I saw a version edited of bad language, and it still was unbearably funny. Try this. watch a tea time trailer of a modern comic on tv and see if he actually says anything funny or can do something that is actually funny suitable for all the family. Its a shame really. God Bless you Dave Allen where ever you are.
Whoa, I remember this show...I used to watch it after I would watch "Tales from The Darkside". I was too scared to go to bed with the TV off and that is when I discovered Dave Allen..
My parents liked Dave Allen when I was a child, and I just thought I'd look him up again, since I probably didn't get his humour when I was 8. What a joy it was. His sense of humour was way ahead of its time. He had such a sense of observation, when other comedians were still doing one-liners.
Good bloody lord when is this going to come our in it's entirety on DVD in America?! My father and I every Saturday evening used to watch this back in the 80's on PBS and we were crackin up, especially at the religious sketches. The Pope ones were the best and at that time my family was catholic but even we could laugh at it and not get offended.
GAWD!! Just hearing the opening theme music brings back memories! Used to watch this with my Dad and was my introduction to wonderful British/Irish humour - THE BEST!! Thanks for this! One joke I remember him saying was how he lost the tip of his finger - constantly stirring the whisky in his glass!! :)
More comic invention in 8:39 than a whole season of most current 'comedies'.
And do you think I could get one of those chairs off eekbay?

The good thing with Dave Allen is that his stuff isn't aging badly. Many comedians jokes about contemporary stuff and it's getting old pretty quick.

I suspect Dave Chappelle is a big fan, the style and pacing of the shows are similar.

"Do you do your show live?" "No, I stab myself first.." Lol.

The BBC should put this on DVD.

I think it IS available on dvd through BBC/ABC shops. There seems to be a lot more BBC stuff being released just recently.

I used to watch this guy's show all the time. He was, essentially, the Irish answer to Bill Cosby. Classic.
