  • More comic invention in 8:39 than a whole season of most current 'comedies'.

And do you think I could get one of those chairs off eekbay?

  • top man !!

  • Chapelle Show Sr.

  • lol lol

  • What modern day comedian is as funny as this without swearing on the box? This guy made a few shows late in life where he swore a bit but I saw a version edited of bad language, and it still was unbearably funny. Try this. watch a tea time trailer of a modern comic on tv and see if he actually says anything funny or can do something that is actually funny suitable for all the family. Its a shame really. God Bless you Dave Allen where ever you are.

  • Whoa, I remember this show...I used to watch it after I would watch "Tales from The Darkside". I was too scared to go to bed with the TV off and that is when I discovered Dave Allen..

  • I STILL tell some the jokes that I saw on his show!

  • This guy was amazing

  • Brings back memories. Thanks for posting

  • he looks like the librarian

  • @andrew34430 He was indeed :)

  • ♥ .

  • The good thing with Dave Allen is that his stuff isn't aging badly. Many comedians jokes about contemporary stuff and it's getting old pretty quick.

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW THAT JOKE HE TOLD ABOUT THE NUN SNEAKING UP TO THE PUB AT NIGHT FOR A DRINK?????????

  • i loved this show when i was a kid, and you know, i tihink its still amusing heh

  • This guy made it look SOOO easy, grew up with this, total genius........!!!!!

  • My parents liked Dave Allen when I was a child, and I just thought I'd look him up again, since I probably didn't get his humour when I was 8. What a joy it was. His sense of humour was way ahead of its time. He had such a sense of observation, when other comedians were still doing one-liners.

  • RIP dAVE, Michael Sharvell-Martin & Ronnie Brody

  • awesome

  • Good bloody lord when is this going to come our in it's entirety on DVD in America?! My father and I every Saturday evening used to watch this back in the 80's on PBS and we were crackin up, especially at the religious sketches. The Pope ones were the best and at that time my family was catholic but even we could laugh at it and not get offended.

  • Looks and brains!! Love him

  • I suspect Dave Chappelle is a big fan, the style and pacing of the shows are similar.

  • I suspect Dave Chapelle is a big fan... the pace and style of the show is similar.

  • I'll tell you, this is the man who taught me all that I know about the Catholic faith.

  • Wow...early days! What an amazing man, and a brilliant comedian.

"Do you do your show live?" "No, I stab myself first.." Lol.

  • The BBC should put this on DVD.

  • @ebf1957

I think it IS available on dvd through BBC/ABC shops. There seems to be a lot more BBC stuff being released just recently.

  • GAWD!! Just hearing the opening theme music brings back memories! Used to watch this with my Dad and was my introduction to wonderful British/Irish humour - THE BEST!! Thanks for this! One joke I remember him saying was how he lost the tip of his finger - constantly stirring the whisky in his glass!! :)

  • Dave Allen at Large (Irish Gnome) is my ringtone...

  • Wow--Haven't seen this since it was new in the 70's.

  • I used to watch this guy's show all the time. He was, essentially, the Irish answer to Bill Cosby. Classic.

  • Dave Allen I've been looking for him for years Thanks , I really like this guy since I was 8 yrs old on channel 11 in Chicago.

  • Thank you!

  • this is great, thank you for posting! One of my favourite comedians :-)

  • the ones about the Church are the funniest :-)

  • Dave was a great comedian. A unique style. Sadly missed.

  • I remember this show being broadcast on PBS as it was such a great comedy!

  • does anyone know how i can get dave allen at large on dvd to watch on my tv?

  • This guy was great. His material was always fantastic.

  • His earlier programmes were funnier

  • @christinalouiseholt but he's quite young here, his hair is still brown and not grey.

  • Dave Chapelle stole/borrowed the format of this show for his own.

  • @tommyrock69

    Absolutely!

  • Damn he is funny!

  • dave allen classic :)

  • The undisputed king of comedy, Dave Allen, is back -- timeless giggles about the human condition. :-)
