  • I wish I could live in one of her songs!

  • Incredible video. and the song, with the story, takes me back in time....

  • why does her music remind me of islam and the middle east? i just think of the desert whenever i listen to it like arabian nights and the bellydancers!

  • @peanuts8 you're not the only one! :)

  • this song takes me high above somewhere no other tune could take me

  • هي دي لورينا .......روعة في الاداء والنغم

  • there is something so ancient yet exotic about her songs

  • Her songs echoes through eternity

  • Loreena brings forth the music from ancient times and it's beauty to the present. From a time when there were great civilizations that lived differently and in tune with Creation. If we are thrust backward and we have no more modern convienences we will still have music. She was given the gift of storing it for us from ancient memories.

  • does this piece of music is part of the movie kingdom of heaven? it seems very close to this music.

  • I would have had no idea as to the inspiration for this beautiful song! Who would have thought? Nice piece of history!

  • I can't believe that I've lived 24 years on this planet without hearing of Loreena McKennitt until now!!

  • @Amazonwarrior777 i know what u mean i've 22 years without knowing who she was and a friend gave me her cd the book of secrets when i was going through the worst time ever, her music healed me!!! i've been a huge fan for a year now!! wish i could meet her someday to thank her for her music, she's amazing!!

  • I just love her work. Very good stuff to listen for hours!

  • Very good video, and very rare actually that someone makes an effort to introduce us to the background of the tune. Thanks a lot :)

  • @taurusak72 and thank you :)

  • Thanks for the background info. It's nice knowing what inspires Loreena to produce such beautiful music. I believe Anna was in love with Bohemond of Taranto, the Prince of Antioch, from the time she was 14.

  • Superbe!

  • She has the prettiest voice... And her songs always take me to meideival Europe <3

  • There is something so primal, so elemental to her music, that your soul instinctively knows its origins. The souls yearns for release into the purity of her music, to soar among the notes, to touch the very heart of it, and never return to the mortal world!

  • Nice tale, though i prefer when she sings in a very high pitch.

  • This is a great piece! It is to this album as "La Serenissima" is to _The Book of Secrets_.

  • Loreena's music is pretty mindblowingly amazing when you've taken some ecstasy. Some real healing introspective journeys thanks to her work!

  • Thank you for watching your Channel with Loreena McKennitt, Deva Premal, Snatam Kaur & others.

  • Thank you Loreena ! <3 <3

  • Beautiful. Dream.

  • There's nobody on the planet like Loreena McKennitt...I've been a fan since around 1997 or so. She continues to amaze me more and more. Unfortunately, this piece is, to date, only found on the Ancient muse CD. Too bad she didn't perform this one on the Nights from the Alhambra DVD...I'd like to see this one done onstage, or at least hear a live version of it. Great piece....Loreena you are great!

  • I saw her live in Portland Maine in Oct 07 and she was amazing! I've been a fan since around 1989 with The Visit. Wonderful!

  • @Nisreenita so true

  • sabes de donde es loreena?

  • 'kecharitomene' actually means 'the most gracefull of them all' in ancient greek and the Mother of God is reffered this way...it is a very very special word...

  • Genial!.Gracias Loreena!

  • I agree, it is great to see such a talented musician embrace history so dearly as McKennitt. The passion she holds for the past shows in her remarkable music.

  • Just magical - as always

  • thanks for the history behind this i never pass up a learning opportunity

  • weeee me too because i'm a voracious reader

  • I wonder if LM ever looks herself up on YouTube...

  • Thanks for including the history lecture. The only powerful female I knew from the Byzantine was Queen Theodora. I always love learning.

    Nicely put together too.

Merci Jacques .

  • Loreena McKennitt bringing An Ancient Muse' to Turkey, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

n her 2006 CD, An Ancient Muse, the Canadian singer-songwriter, known for her unique style, which combines Celtic music and Eastern melodies, looks through the gates of İstanbul and makes references to important figures from this land, such as Sultan Mehmed II and Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi. The Turkish musical instruments ud and kanun were also used in the album.

  • Loreena :)*

  • So beautiful.

  • there is no word to say this song takes me my lands

  • kecharitomene or : " κεχαριτωμενη " means : the jolliest in greek and is a characterisation attributted to Madonna, Mary the Holy the mother of Jesus Christ.

χαιρε κεχαριτωμενη, ο Κυριος μετα σου said the angel to the Virgin.

  • great video!!

The song is fantastic like all her songs are.

  • thank you very match

  • thank you for introducing anna comnena, a person almost unknown in the west. and loreena!!!--there is everything in her eyes!

  • ana comnena is quite known by those who are interested in literature.julia kristeva wrote a novel which has as the main subject the writings of this byzantine princess. the novel is "Death in Byzantium".

the video is welcomed, indeed.good job.

  • This is a very beautiful video to a wonderful song - well done!

  • You clearly must have a beautiful and enlightened soul to write such music. Thank you for posting this.

  • what?? No, she's Christian but very into Eastern Mysticism (ie. sufism, etc.)

  • She actually is a member of the United Church of Canada, which is Unitarian.

  • The U C of Canada is afar cry from the Unitarian Universalist Church. The UC of C was an amalgmation of several Methodist, Presbyterian. Congreationalist, Calvinist (and in a very few cases Babtist) churches when numbers were low in the various denominations.

  • She's a New-Ager (she refers to the divine as "this essence called God"), that's probably why she makes songs about Pagans, Christians and Muslims.

  • Fantastic job.

    Thanks.

  • No! THANKY YOU for posting it for us to watch

  • i really love it! i love all her songs.

  • it's perfect...i may have listened to it 10000000 times so far...and i can't get enough of it...

  • Thank`s a lot for this fantastic video!!

  • thank so much for this music, i love loreena she is powerfull an provocative

  • i love this songg!

  • The name of the convent (monastery) Kexaritomene come from the title usually attributed to Virgin Mary (mother of Jesus)as it is included in the words that archangel Michael addressed to her during the announcement of her pregnacy : (from greek in english characters) Xaire kexaritomeni, o Kirios meta Sou. A (weak)translation is : Hail, most-graceful, the Lord is with You.

  • cewl to know

    thanx

  • i think that it refers to Empress Ειρήνη Κεχαριτομενη, she was a byzantine empress and her nickname was kecharitomene. Though that Kexaritomeni is used often on the aegean islands as one of the many nicknames given on the virgin mary

  • Flow1243, the angel was Gabriel! How could you not know that — Gabriel, the announcing angel!

  • I stand corrected. What a terrible mistake i made! thank you sunspring54 for your perceptive remark!

  • really? yay! I love how Loreena's so religious in alot of her songs:)

  • I have been a long time fan of Loreena's. Her music has taken me on many journeys to my soul. But my comment is directed more to thanking you for the history. 5 stars for the history and if I could, 5 more for the music.
