  • i wouldnt really call cash country, more like dark southern rock

  • Hope i'm not the only one, anyone else remember this from Shuan White snowboarding a few years ago, quality song, quality game.

  • I ****ing LOVE this cover!!! I'm gonna do a change up cover (start off making people think it's Johnny and then break out with this!) for a gig soon. Stay tuned for an awesome video! :)

  • Good song

  • Fuckin awesome.

  • Great

  • H-Blockx cover is much better for me.

  • R.I.P Johnny Cash

  • Greatest cover of all time. Mike Ness and Social D are the only ones worthy of covering such a song.

  • Johnny would love this version. But let's remember he's not the one who wrote it. June wrote it. I don't think June would like it. But johnny would love it. And yes johnny was a punk rocker

  • @bradleyjames83 agree with you...No doubt Johnny would love this version... ;)

  • drums and guitar are wonderful

  • old school rockabilly

  • @astralhed As much as I love both Rockabilly and Social Distortion, but seeing how Rockabilly was first formed in the 1950s, this is far from old school rockabilly.

  • @DJGTechHL very true, can't argue with that

...just trying to say that this band as well as The Cramps took the rockabilly genre to a new level compared to what most other bands of similar genres were doing in the 80's.

Social Distortion was pretty much a hardcore band that brilliantly crossed over to create a cool rockabilly sound that was quite different from what pretty much all the other hardcore bands were doing at the time.

thx for your honest and insightful comment :)

  • @astralhed Ahhh... so much information.

  • Ficou destruidor! Melhor versao!

  • Fuckin Epic!!!!!!

  • DIO MOSTRO BASTARDO,PORCA MADONNA

  • That early aggressive sound, wearing black, smashing the lights at The Grand Old Opry... Johnny Cash was a punk rocker! He would love this!

  • The dislike bar is as big as my penis

  • Eh.. Sorry, not a Punk fan, they killed the chorus :\

  • I'm a big JC fan but I love this too.

  • after hearing this a billion times on Pandora and not being to sure on it, now I'm pretty addicted.

  • SHAUN WHITE SNOWBOARDING

  • great cover to a legendary song. johnny would be proud

  • Cool cover! I really enjoyed this rocky, gritty, rich rendition!

  • Johnny Cash. ILY.

And Social D is just too fucking epic.

  • I first heard this version of the Johnny Cash classic on October 29, 2005 and have loved this rendition the most ever since that very Saturday in October 2005. Johnny Cash's version is still great too because it has that awesome Spanish sound in the song.

  • A song all about wating up after a night of beer and curry, and why the 2 just dont mix.

  • I want some Cash. I want some Johnny Cash. Give me some Cash!

  • Great song

  • well this sounds like hell. Johnny Cash must be rolling in his grave.

  • EARGASM!!

  • This is one of the only covers i think is better than the original....

  • @RitzDaCracker1 if u believe tht, then ur fucking retarded

  • @laughsquad007 How is that retarted? the original is great but this song is more up beat and just all around better sounding. I like the rock sound more than the country sound which is probably why i like this version more. Is that retarted?

  • @RitzDaCracker1 yes, becus this version sounds like shit.

  • @laughsquad007 lol maybe your the retard then? Did ya think of that? Oh nevermind, im sure only your opinion is correct and everyone else is wrong/retarted....

  • Johnny cash was pround Mike Ness is punk!

  • better then the origanal

  • @JJ619316 That's a little bit overdone . Johnny Cash is still one of the greatest mussicians.

  • CAN'T BE LOUD ENOUGH! GAAH

  • One of the all-time great covers. Great band stays faithful to the original while adapting it from one musical style (country) to another (punk rock). That's pretty much the recipe. You need all four elements from that last sentence.

  • @SimuLord what four elements, pretty, much, recipe, and the? haha jk, good insight. I saw them play this live, it was great!

  • @heyfuzzycub Yeah, I know I screwed it up---it was three elements. Great band, faithful translation, adaptation of style.

  • @SimuLord yeah, that wasn't your last sentence either, but it was still a good point and it's a great song!

  • the guy with the hat looks badass

  • Heard a deep house techno trance remix/abomination of Cash's Ring of Fire, it was possibly the matrix burning the zombie virus into people's brain pans.

Hearing Social Distortion's version has cured for that virus for me. NOW stop kicking the back of my seat or you kids are gonna walk HOME! Where the frack is my PEPSI?...;[]

  • beter then CASH

  • the only music video on youtube with out fucking vevo get in

  • i'm a Cash fan and this is a good cover.......

  • whoever is singing has a golden voice, just like johnny. I can't say I know anything about social distortion's music but they did damn good on this one, from a life long Cash fan

  • @lien0569 Mike Ness

  • @lien0569

his name is Mike Ness and Social Distortion is one of the most successful punk rock band. their sound mix punk rock with blues, country and folk music. if u like great music i suggest you to dload and list to SD's music.

They have influenced many other rock bands.

  • @julaofucker well i love reading about this stuff so I went to wiki pedia and noticed the drummer's name, David Hidalgo. David Hidalgo plays drums?? Turns out he is the son of the David Hidalgo I know of, from the very underrated and unappreciated (IMHO) Los Lobos, also from southern Cal. anyway thought that was interesting, I will surely check out more of their music, I really dig the country flavor it has.

  • the album cover looks like machine gun blues

  • I saw these guys today having never heard any of their stuff. They blew me away.

  • Johnny Cash was a legend and this song was one of many of his master pieces. Social Code made this into a "rock song" and did it beautifully they really didn't change anything they did an awsome job!

  • @Mandy26101 social distortion not social code says it right in the title

  • Green Day's usage of this riff wasn't coincidence; similar subject matter

between the songs, and notice how the solo is accompanied by Billie Joel singing 'I walked this line'.

    It's a neat tribute, I think.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • I'm not a fan of country, but Cash is one I can tolerate because he was extremely talented. So, Cash's songwriting greatness + Social Distortion's punk version won my heart.

  • @sweetemotion1818 Just fyi, but Ring of Fire wasn't written by Johnny Cash but by June Carter (with someone else who I forget). It was originally recorded by June's sister Anita, but it was JC's idea to the version with the horns.

  • Happy Birthday Cash

  • anyone noticed that the intro riff of this sounds similar to one of the interludes at the end of jesus of suburbia by green day eh?

  • @randomman1697 Might want to reverse that and say that Green Days song sounds like this since this song originally was released by Cash in like 63.

  • @Afina79 yea they both sound like eachother....clearly green day came way after johnny cash

  • no body get me wrong at all but i have to give this one to johnny! he made this song! freakin kick ass cover though!!!!!!

  • Love this version!

  • Its not amazing but not horrible :)

  • one of the best rock and roll versions/songs ever done

  • this is how you do a cover

  • know who'd be proud? Johnny Cash. He'd be fucking proud.

  • @vevicx01 dont take this wrong but i completely disagree with you. This is terrible.

  • @vevicx01 damn right he would be :-)

  • @vevicx01 This came out in 1989 Johnny was still alive then so he probably heard it

  • @vevicx01 yep he would dig it

  • @vevicx01 And he was proud, Cash once said that SD's version of this song is very good.

  • @vevicx01 Dude if you could like a comment more than once, then you would have over 7million+ likes....

    Your exactly right!

  • excellent remake!.......love it!

  • i like this song!

  • I heard this versoin in Freeb!rds its a borrito place and I am a huge fan of the original and I love this

  • no one will be able to be as good as johnny cash but its still good :)

  • not as good but still not terrible

  • not neer as goog as johnny cash's but not bad

  • I LOVE THIS its a really good cover to such a beautiful song

  • true but still social distortion is really good

  • WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO - and it has nothing to do with Hitler.....see previous comments lol!

  • Well ... I just love the song itself! I love just about anybody doing it. Even slower versions. But for some kick in the ass rock and hardness ... Social D does it BEST!!! Love it. ... I am READY to ROCK the WEEKEND!!!!

  • @EarlyHunt18 well when u say it with all those perty words i guess so

  • @EarlyHunt18 you are smoking crack...the crack of your ass that is....Mike is a huge fan of Johnny Cash, and they are/were the same type of person...you fuckin moron.

  • @EarlyHunt18 i agree with you on 1 thing johnny cash does it better, but you are totally WRONG on everthing else; Johnny cash sang rock song and was inducted INTO the rock n' roll hall of fame. the song "hurt" was actually a rock song and so were others, Johnny cash had a Very open mind about his genra.

    YOU ARE A MORRON

  • @MrDavidX96 I never denied that Johnny cash sang rock, I'm saying that this band isn't good enough to be considered rock or do a Cash cover in my eyes. The singer is monotone, flat, and has no passion in his voice. I might suggest that in the future you read things more carefully before you spout off insults at people for their opinions online. It doesn't make you and tougher because you can type insulting words on a keyboard.

  • @EarlyHunt18 i just reread your comment and would like to apologize for being hasty with my response

  • @MrDavidX96 lol hes a moron your the fucktard that just spelled genre genra

  • @airsoftrules987 no1 online gives a living shit about slite miss spellings except u so shut up

  • @MrDavidX96 you fuck my dick ass hole your calling other people a moron when you can't even spell you fuck nuts.

  • @airsoftrules987 while i admit there is irony in the situation and you do have a point the fact remains that the conversation had nothing to do with you, but as i said you do have a fair point

  • @MrDavidX96 I am not arguing what your saying, but where someone is voted into has NOTHING to do with what they sing. Bill Monroe(the Father of Bluegrass, who NEVER played or allowed an electric instrument or drums) is in the RnR HOF based on his influence of rock stars, like Elvis. A "song" isnt a Rock, Country, etc song specifically. It can ONLY be sang in a Rock, Country, Etc style.

Actually, the Original Ring Of Fire was a Folk song, when Cash REMADE(yep!) it, he did it country style!

  • @EarlyHunt18 i once heard someone else say about the same thing about a cover of a cash song, i didn't agree w/him any more than i do you

  • hahahahaahahahahhahahahhahahahah!!!!!

  • I like how they made their own version, actually covering it, instead of trying to sound like the original :]

  • Johnny Cash would be proud, he had alot of rock in him too

  • @snakeskinseth thats what im talking about u rock

  • I like how Social D sped this up! Thanks!

  • tight version right here

  • Well, seems like there are a lot of haters below.

None of Cash's songs was about hating, so why hate on one of his songs or a cover?

God people of the internet, when can everyone get along?

  • Makes me want to go slam dancing in the UK! Good tribute to Johnny .Tough song to sing and done properly.

  • i not even a bigsocial d fan but i think this is the best cover ever

  • Horrible.

  • dont think Johnny (god bless his soul) ever wrote a song :)

  • Great cover of a legendary song. This could get young people listening to Johnny C.

  • the pride of kingsland arkansas johnny cash,

  • Sounds great but the guys voice kinda sounds retarded at times

  • @Mrbanzisurfer seriously....they do one cover and you get all pissy. My money is you're a white trash yank.....

  • JOHHNY CASH DIDN'T EVEN WRITE THIS!!! June Carter did! Get your facts straight. I'm a lifelong Johnny Cash fan.

  • @emphaticleech i meatn that youtube is not the place to argue. thanks for pointing out my gramatical errors

  • all banter aside, this song rocks

  • @Mrbanzisurfer - What's the fuss? They sang this song as a tribute (most covers are tributes). Now we have two really, really good versions of it.

  • Why is it that Yanks seem incapable of posting a comment without using - "Fuck yeah", "WTF", "faggot", "Fuck you", "Fuck that" etc etc??? Is the average Yank so limited in their vocabulary that their main & often only word is "fuck"???

BOTH versions are good - so fuck yeah, fuck that, fuck you, faggot, fag..blah blah - just enjoy....clear & simplistic enough????

  • @randburg100 Hey u Pieace of shit englishman jus remember had we not got involved in world war to hilter would have kicked ur ass so stop ur bitchin about us usin the word fuck and jus mind your own damn business

  • @jarondek I rest my case! By the way, what has Hitler got to do with anything? He was a neurotic Austrian dwarf & nothing to do with your poor linguistic ability; in that vein please try and use a dictionary.

If you insist on bringing WW2 into the issue, perhaps you need to ask your own government why they sacrificed Pearl Harbour to the Japanese...? Oh, yes, where did your country get a large part of its rocket technology...Herr Werner von Braun......and your jet aircraft technolgy...the UK.

  • @randburg100 It's really quite naiive of you to expect people on the internet to act civil/not retarded. Not to mention to assume that Americans are the only ones who do so. So as they say in England, "never mind the bullocks."

btw what jarondek was getting at was there's no doubt you would have fallen to nazi germany if we weren't sending you metric shittons of materiel through lend and lease.

  • @thejasoninator 1. I am still confused as to what Hitler has to do with anything - are you blaming Hitler for Yank behaviour?

    2. If you want to quote us Brits - get it right - it's "BOLLOCKS" a bullock is a boy cow without balls!

    3. Your comment infers that if I were in the US, it would be acceptable to go into a shop and say, for example -"Hey dude, fuck you, i wanna huge burger, you fucking faggot, now fucking get me a fucking burger, fuck that, faggot dude.....yeeeeee haaaa??? Correct?

  • @randburg100 1. Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany (and jarondek is an idiot).

    2. no, i meant never mind the bullocks. It's the English version of "don't have a cow, man."

    3. I said people on the INTERNET will talk like that, although you're more than welcome to try ordering like that if you ever visit the US. results may vary.

  • @thejasoninator USA FTW!!! fuck yeah :D

  • @thejasoninator lol....if I ever travel to the US, I'll bear that in mind when I go to McDonalds - thought I will be prepared to wear, rather than eat, my BigMac :)

  • @thejasoninator p.s. - I still like this version of Ring of Fire as well as Mr Cash's :)

  • @thejasoninator oh yeah and if you dont understand anything just read a book....

  • @M3RUL3Z I don't understand what you mean, so I guess I'll go read a book.

  • @randburg100 your an idiot... without us in ww2 you wouldve lost our lend and lease saved you. if hitler didnt stop those 3 panzer divisions at Dunkirk you would lost over 300,000 BEF veterans did i lose you there??? that would meant that britain mightve agreed to peace, the BEF veterans wouldnt of been in africa "desert rats" the germans would have Greece, they would send free troops to russia to attack one month earlier in the summer where the weather would let them conquer more shut up man...

  • @M3RUL3Z I am quite aware of history - BTW it's "you're" NOT "your". This STILL does not answer my question as to what Hitler has to do with comments on a cover of Johnny Cash! - Oh yes..if the UK was now German ...which country would the US have used in your illegal invasion of Iraq? LOL your remark on lend lease is quite ironic - without it, the US would have lost a significant part of it's industrial output. ALSO you would not have the German rocket technology they had taken from them..

  • @randburg100 im pretty sure most scientists that were germans (also jewish) yeh im right look it up... so they fled to america einstein... etc they wouldnt flee to your little island that was under siege by the germans... also when the first time london was bombed???? a squad of heinkels just got lost at night, followed protocol released, their bombs randomly little did they know they were flying over london at the time but thats just crappy ass luck so after that hitler orded london bombed MORE

  • @M3RUL3Z AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH ! What the HELL has this got to do with grammar & speech on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will someone PLEASE, in the vernacular of the board, tell me what the THE FUCKING HELL HITLER has to do with this board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @randburg100 That's why everyone in the UK loves saying "fuck off" right? Stupid is as stupid does, no matter what country they're from. Don't make blanket stereotyping statements.

  • @YanksDontKnowFooty LOL - fair comment :) - it's such a pity that the US & UK are separated by the same language. BUT I am still confused as to why Hitler came into the equation........that said this is STILL a good rendition of Mr Cash! I don't care how many fucks / fuck that / faggots etc are involved.

  • @randburg100 first of all why are you saying ""yank" im pretty sure cash was a yank. boo hoo. simply another dingus who is hating on america for everything yet we are one of the few nations ready for a major for a large scale war. so stop calling everyone that curses a "yank" since whites, blacks mexicans, and asians all love to say FUCK every once in a blue moon

  • @M3RUL3Z oh good grief! You've missed the point - 1. Cash I don't think is posting on here, 2. I care not what colour someone is - I know all about racism and besides the US is probably as racist as South Africa! FINALLY & get this through your skull - I was referring to the general state of comments on here - mainly posted from the US!!!!!!!! Oh, yes, I am STILL waiting for an explanation as to why Hitler was brought into the issue!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Mrbanzisurfer ur a real fucking loser. go get a life

  • Perfect theme song to advertise a hemorrhoid cream.

  • @sportgrappler Or fucking VD.

  • @sportgrappler lmfao

  • @sportgrappler What about a medley by Sting, Cream and Hole?

  • @addictedtothatrush Oh, man, that's awful!!! LMFAO!!!!!

  • rulez

  • oh that ring of fire...

  • now that is the real song of ring o fire... johhny cash and another wheiner make a fake of this song,,, crappy songs...

  • This cover is really awesome....

  • I freakin love this song...It's amazing.. Luv the Social D.....Deanna from Tn

  • not bad 4 a cover

  • not bad

  • SxDx.

  • tis is better then the original 1 :p

  • Fuck yeah! It gives fresh sound to good ol' Johnny.

  • both are legends. both the original and the cover are good its just the best song in the world and you cant go wrong. so stop arguing about it. no-ones a faggot.

  • Excellent!

  • 41 people fell into a burning ring of fire

  • No one does a Johnny Cash song better than Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash even does other bands songs better. Like when he covered the Nine Inch Nails song Hurt.

  • @SaintPsyclon WTF? Cash's version of Hurt is good but the real spirit of the song got totally lost, anyone who says Cash's version is better either didn't listen to NIN's version carefully enough or didn't listen to the whole Downward Spiral album.

  • @SaintPsyclon I'm probably the biggest Cash fan there is, and Mike Ness really likes Johnny too, and this is a very good cover and tribute.

  • @SaintPsyclon Dude I'm a Johnny Cash fan too, but to be honest here, social d did a waaay better version to this song. Come one bro

  • @SaintPsyclon Little bias there? I happen to think Reznor's original Hurt is better than Cash's cover. Not by much, but it's my opinion.

  • @SaintPsyclon the only way to improve on a nine inch nails song is to turn it off, Johnny Cash did however make it hauntingly interesting though.

  • @geepbee What an open minded view. :\

  • @geepbee Turn it off, really? ur out of ur fuckin mind man

  • @sUiCiDeSqUrReLz So I dont dig N. I .N. sue me.
