So, despite repeated warnings to only take food and water, and despite having decided that the place was a 'treasure chamber of the gods', Hercules STILL decided to take some stuff?
Best scene in the movie, IMO, scares the crap out of me; the lack of expression on his face and the movement, the screaking of the metal, etc and his size, just truly terrifying. Seeing him turn his head, then climb down off his pedestal, just horrifying beyond belief.
Yes, the jerkiness is what makes it scary. I don't know if you remember the BBC programme Screen Test but when I was 6 years old there was a trailer for it on TV. Michael Rodd introduced the clips that would be shown. One was from Jason and the Argonauts. The moment Talos emerged from behind the rock face I hid behind my parents' sofa. I also remember thinking "Argonauts? Shouldn't it be Jason and the Astronauts"
I saw this film when I was a kid and it scare me so bad, I peed on my self. Oh wait, it still has the same effect today. No really, I loved this movie and when Talos face moves, it still gives me the chills today. Great movie and great score by Bernard Herrmann!
i always loved these effects of harryhausen, they seemed more real to your imagination, the fx today, you know there generated and it ruins it. the score was also excellent to bring talos to life!
I love the way Harryhausen can give a totally emotionless character a personality. When Talos first gets off of his stand he leans back and you know what he's thinking.... "Goddamn I've been up on that fuckin' stand for a looooong time. Shit, and now I've got to go kill me some thieving little spudfucks."
this is a piece of cinematic history, better than the Kraken Scene (to an extent) in POTC 2.... Absolute Quality, still sh i ts me up to this day, and I'm 32, WOOOO !!!!!
There's ALWAYS someone who will ignore the direst warnings in greek myths. In fact, most of the troubles that are found in greek mythology are caused by people who were feelin' lucky at the time.
Acording to the legend he is a deffense system gone wrong. He was supposed to protect the country his island was near but he went nuts and started trashing every ship that went past friend and foe alike
its also the best moment of any film i've seen to date. Although competition is close for me between that part and in Die Hard when Bruce Willis throws the C-4 down the lift shaft
damn talos missed everything up!!!
and his scary as hell like others said with the music the scene is just epic!!!

When you first see Talos you just know that something horrible is going to happen - the eerie creaking as he moves is truly scary!
A brilliant creation by Harryhausen.

Ray Harryhausen is the genius of "Special Effects", in my opinion.

The moment when Talos turns his head is one of the greatest moments in cinema history.

Totally agree, the size, the creaking sounds and the expressionless face all add to his incredible presence.

In all honesty, like the special effects in the Ten Commandments (i.e. the Red Sea parting), the special effects in this movie (IMO) remain credible.

Did Talos leave his temple's door open to lure them in, or was it just random
