He's so cute. But, i think you shouldn't feed your rat through the cage bars, that will make your rat learn to eat through the cage bars, and sometimes, when you had a children around you, and he poke his fingers through the cage, the rat will bite. I ever had an accident like that. By the way, thanks for this video..
Hes like Nom nom nom give me some more mate nom nom nom nom more more !! no nom nom nom nomn nom more !! nom nom nom nom !! Wait i'll put it in my secret place i'll be back in 15s :)
sooo is that the reson they call them pouched rats? im just curiouse cuz what he does with the graps regular rats cant do its more of a hamster thing lol
Awww cute!! My rats do that thing sometimes where they stuff their mouths full of whatever i am hand feeding them, usually being their treat food, untill their little cheeks pop out a bit and then run away with it to eat, lol!
Holy Mackerel ! He took 12 grapes in his mouth, I probably could not put all that in my mouth or for that matter my rat probably couldn't take half a grape. !
He never bit me nor anyone else ever, no, not even a nip outside of grabbing my hand with his mouth to try pulling me into his cage. And NEVER painfully NOR intentionally
That was so cute! It reminded me of when my friend and I were seeing how many dog biscuits her teddy bear hamster could fit in her cheeks. I think it was six or seven. They have such large pouches for such tiny animals.
On another note, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hate losing a pet regardless of the way in which you lose it.
oh no, not matisse! oh how sad. as much as he bonded with you, you were most definitely bonded with him. true companions. i hope you find another to adopt, another with whom to share what matisse taught you.
for everyone else, this is not a pet for everyone. no one should ever adopt an animal because of their "cool" or "unique" factor. all rats require devotion, the giant rats more so than their tiny cousins.
wow nice rat its so cute i have a rat my self and it loves grapes but it cant fit that many in its mouth lol :) one thing i want to know is what is safe for my rats to eat and whats isnt
As with any pet, try to model what you feed it off of the nutrition of it's wild counterparts. That doesn't mean it has to eat the same, but should receive the same nutrient, mineral, vitamin and fat content as it would in the wild. I don't know what kind of rat you have, but do a little research and I'm sure you can come up with a great diet for it. The irony to this is that my snakes eat a naturalistic diet...or rats...
...watch my other videos of him. He's never bitten in his entire life, even my son was able to feed him at 2 years of age without a problem. He was just overly greedy when it comes to food.
Yeah, what she said. You can train even the smaller rats to sniff first and receive the food later. Some of my fondest memories were those of the rats taking the food, gently from my fingers and almost looking up at me with thanks.
It's bad to feed rats through the cage. He/she may now bite anything that touches the cage, as it will think it's food. You should always open the cage and let it feed from your hand.
after over four years of alternating feeding as well as putting my fingers in his cage, he never bit. I know about that rule, but you can train rats to sniff first before they grab at whatever's put in their cage. I always do because we always had kids(my much younger brothers first, and now my son). Just offer food and say "treat", then alternate with poking your own fingers in to pet them. EVERY time I pass by the cage, I put my fingers in so they know. cage is next to front door, too.
I have heard of some fancy Norway variety called "English" before, but I am referring to a "Roof" rat, or Rattus Rattus as opposed to Rattus Norvegicus. They are the native wild rat here, and they are adorable.
not 2 be rude, but if you feed rats through the bars, they will think that everything that comes through the bars is food after all rats don't have the best vision. If you then stick your fingers through the cage, the rat may accidentally nip you as it mistakes your fingers for food. Be careful u don't get munched on for your own saftey-I learned the hard way with my ratties OUCH!
Actually, I do both with my domestic rats (and my pouched rat when he was alive) ALL the time. I feed through the bars as well as stick my fingers through the bars interchangably. This leads them to smell the item being offered first BEFORE taking a chomp at it. Usually it helps to say "treat" or whatever when offering the food, as well. I do this because I have a toddler, and have had rats since my brothers were babies as well, and they don't know not to shove food/hands into the cages.
Most rats will smell to check if what they are munching is food first. Its a response that stops them getting poisoned. One of my rats will only let me stroke her through the bars and bites everyone else. She always knows the difference because every person has an idividual smell. if they can distinguise the difference between people imagine how easy they can tell fingers from food!
the best thing my rat's know of is brocoli ?? its wierd but its healthy and probertly tast good :P when my rat (loui) see's that im comming with a brocoli ´he ran up to the front dor and try tu pull it out of my hand, maybe i should use it as a treat hah :P lol

it is like making a human mutant.

That would be because hairless and tailless rat ARE mutants.
