  • He's so cute. But, i think you shouldn't feed your rat through the cage bars, that will make your rat learn to eat through the cage bars, and sometimes, when you had a children around you, and he poke his fingers through the cage, the rat will bite. I ever had an accident like that. By the way, thanks for this video..

  • Awww cute!! My rats do that thing sometimes where they stuff their mouths full of whatever i am hand feeding them, usually being their treat food, untill their little cheeks pop out a bit and then run away with it to eat, lol!

  • Holy Mackerel ! He took 12 grapes in his mouth, I probably could not put all that in my mouth or for that matter my rat probably couldn't take half a grape. !

    love this video.

  • How clean are rats such as this?

  • @MechaBlazeEagle

Probably as clean as a cat, cleaner than a dog and a lot cleaner than a kid.

  • haha now we know why they're called pouched rats!

  • hahahah so cute

  • WOW that rat got 12 rapes in its mouth!!!

Those rats are so cool I wish I could get a Pouched rat. :)

  • Love how the ears are going out to the side, almost looks like a rabbit for some reason.

  • Wow... A dozen grapes gone in no time. He seems like a great pet. I wonder if I'd be allergic to a Pouched Rat.

  • has he or she ever bitten you like to make u bleed or get hurt on accident?

  • He never bit me nor anyone else ever, no, not even a nip outside of grabbing my hand with his mouth to try pulling me into his cage. And NEVER painfully NOR intentionally

  • wow thats kool! lol i have a blue rat and i just got a fancy rat cuz my other one died

  • Comment removed

  • This information is only recent, my video is over 3 years old and Matisse passed away two years ago.

    Just so you know.

  • o.O

    thats not a normal rat!

i dont like what they did with domested rats like hairless ones, rats without tails, dumbo ears and so on.

it is like making a human mutant.

  • That would be because hairless and tailless rat ARE mutants.

  • I agree with your dislike of mutant domestic rats, but that is a pouched rat not a domestic rat.

  • That was so cute! It reminded me of when my friend and I were seeing how many dog biscuits her teddy bear hamster could fit in her cheeks. I think it was six or seven. They have such large pouches for such tiny animals.

On another note, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hate losing a pet regardless of the way in which you lose it.

  • wow! what kind of rat is that? its like part rat part hamster part chinchilla!

  • its amazing how they store food in there cheeks.

  • awesome!!!! he's like a rat/marsupial/hamster!!!!

  • hahaha

  • It's sooo cute!

  • So that is what happened to all my grapes. lol

  • @katlady5000 they have pouches like a hamster. Little storage areas in there cheeks.

  • Hes like k Im done mom thats all I can handle lol too cute !!

  • oh no, not matisse! oh how sad. as much as he bonded with you, you were most definitely bonded with him. true companions. i hope you find another to adopt, another with whom to share what matisse taught you.

for everyone else, this is not a pet for everyone. no one should ever adopt an animal because of their "cool" or "unique" factor. all rats require devotion, the giant rats more so than their tiny cousins.

  • Can somebody please tell me how long they live?

  • I think they live about 10 years, right?

  • really??

  • OMG i will die if i don't get a pouched rat at sometime in my life

  • umm...okay.

  • wow nice rat its so cute i have a rat my self and it loves grapes but it cant fit that many in its mouth lol :) one thing i want to know is what is safe for my rats to eat and whats isnt

  • As with any pet, try to model what you feed it off of the nutrition of it's wild counterparts. That doesn't mean it has to eat the same, but should receive the same nutrient, mineral, vitamin and fat content as it would in the wild. I don't know what kind of rat you have, but do a little research and I'm sure you can come up with a great diet for it. The irony to this is that my snakes eat a naturalistic diet...or rats...

  • WOW that rat is absolutely precious!!!

  • I've always wanted one of these. Never found a breeder in the UK, though. Got a load of regular rats though.

Anyway, this is a really cute video. He was very beautiful.

  • lmao looks like hes choking. he looks like a biter too o_o

  • ...watch my other videos of him. He's never bitten in his entire life, even my son was able to feed him at 2 years of age without a problem. He was just overly greedy when it comes to food.

  • Whoa... alot grapes lol. Cute

  • I'd love a pouched rat, but all rodents seem to bite me......It must be my natural cheesy scent..

  • Rat's can't have cheese often, it wrecks their digestive system.

They prefer crackers and bread. :)

  • how old do they get?

  • WOW! And I though hamsters stuffed themselves to the brim. SHEESH!

  • omg can i have that rat?!?! i want it!! its so cute!!

  • i'm sorry but that's just amazing. The rats I had also hoarded their food, but instead they'd take every piece to their dish, then come back for more

  • Yeah, what she said. You can train even the smaller rats to sniff first and receive the food later. Some of my fondest memories were those of the rats taking the food, gently from my fingers and almost looking up at me with thanks.

  • It's bad to feed rats through the cage. He/she may now bite anything that touches the cage, as it will think it's food. You should always open the cage and let it feed from your hand.

  • after over four years of alternating feeding as well as putting my fingers in his cage, he never bit. I know about that rule, but you can train rats to sniff first before they grab at whatever's put in their cage. I always do because we always had kids(my much younger brothers first, and now my son). Just offer food and say "treat", then alternate with poking your own fingers in to pet them. EVERY time I pass by the cage, I put my fingers in so they know. cage is next to front door, too.

  • LOL holy crap i love this vid

  • my grandma u have big ears lol

  • Wow! Those pouches are pretty amazing!

  • I have both English and Norway rats and adore both. This is a really cool pouched rat! Hope to someday add one to my family.

  • Isn't an Englsih rat the same as a Norwegian rat?

  • I have heard of some fancy Norway variety called "English" before, but I am referring to a "Roof" rat, or Rattus Rattus as opposed to Rattus Norvegicus. They are the native wild rat here, and they are adorable.

  • oh nom nom nom

  • omg!

    i want one!

  • :D big mouth

  • Oooh so adorable. I want one. :(

  • Aww bless so sweet its like he's playing chubby bunnies =)

  • thats the cutets thing eva :)

  • not 2 be rude, but if you feed rats through the bars, they will think that everything that comes through the bars is food after all rats don't have the best vision. If you then stick your fingers through the cage, the rat may accidentally nip you as it mistakes your fingers for food. Be careful u don't get munched on for your own saftey-I learned the hard way with my ratties OUCH!

  • Actually, I do both with my domestic rats (and my pouched rat when he was alive) ALL the time. I feed through the bars as well as stick my fingers through the bars interchangably. This leads them to smell the item being offered first BEFORE taking a chomp at it. Usually it helps to say "treat" or whatever when offering the food, as well. I do this because I have a toddler, and have had rats since my brothers were babies as well, and they don't know not to shove food/hands into the cages.

  • By the way-great videos!

  • Most rats will smell to check if what they are munching is food first. Its a response that stops them getting poisoned. One of my rats will only let me stroke her through the bars and bites everyone else. She always knows the difference because every person has an idividual smell. if they can distinguise the difference between people imagine how easy they can tell fingers from food!

  • CUTE

  • 12 grapes in there! wow

  • lol omg it was like atleast 10 grapes stretchy cheeks!!

  • XD OMg this has to be the cutest thing EVER

  • the best thing my rat's know of is brocoli ?? its wierd but its healthy and probertly tast good :P when my rat (loui) see's that im comming with a brocoli ´he ran up to the front dor and try tu pull it out of my hand, maybe i should use it as a treat hah :P lol

  • Maybe we should see how many broccoli a pouched rat could take at once. XD

  • Where do you get those kind ???

  • WOW hungry rat lol.

  • swallows em whole? whoow

  • Now if he sneezes it will be like a machine gun.

  • Reminds me of my hamstur :D

  • I just saw Matisse died last year.. I'm so sorry =( he's SO cute and you're the envy of a whole rat forum in Denmark - we all think he's SO CUTE and would LOVE a giant version of our little rats. Not only does he look cute, it sounds like he was a great pet, sweet and playfull and intelligent. I'm so sorry for your loss =( I just put a rat to sleep last week, she was my favourite and I'm still completely torn inside. She was 2yrs 2months old, so it was just her time. I sympathise with your loss.

  • Hi if you are from denmark you'll know zoocity in roskilde, they've just got those kind of rat 1500kr does they cost :) (and they just god puppies) was there yesterday. and what's the name of the forum you was talking about ?

  • My fancy rats like grapes but they can only nibble one at a time :p

  • mine too. green grapes. and they don't eat the skins. I find grape skins in their bedding all the time, hehehe.

  • I take it he likes grapes... =)

  • jakie to zajebiste , moje taki nie potrafią

  • an emin's pouched rat.

  • He's very cute. Where did you get him? I wonder if they are legal in all states in the U.S. Do you live in the US?

  • Wow lol what a cute little guy :)

  • wow dude thats more grapes than i can fit in my mouth!!

  • Ahhh!!! I want one! Too bad they're illegal now :(

  • LOL, this is awesome! I love your rat!

  • Cool! We don't have pouched rats in New Zealand. I have 3 rats. They also love grapes, but don't eat that much!

  • how many grapes can that guy fit in his mouth?

  • Wonderful!!!He's so cute, my also likes grapes, but eats only one little grape...and your rat is amazing:)

  • He is lovely

  • That rat must love grapes lol

  • Wow, a dozen grapes! Kool!

  • Damn that's a huge one!

  • haha! thats so cool! so, the pouches are in their mouths? oops, i thought they were some rat-like marsupials or something. silly me. although i didnt even hear about them until 2 days ago.......

  • My ratties love grapes too :D But mine are little so they have to eat them one at a time like apples >.>

  • As a great Giant rat enthusiast I find this clip extreemly interesting and enthralling. Please have a look at my articles on the giant rat by doing a google search.

    Ross.

  • That was hilarious! He really wanted those grapies!

  • he can fit more than me!

  • omg!! 12 grapes! by the way...what kind of rat is that??!! is it like on steriods or somethin!

  • it's in the title.. he's an emin's pouched rat. C. emini.

  • where is it from?

  • he's a species from africa, but him in particular? fourth generation captive bred in the US. He's four years old now, too.

  • kool! i wish i could get one...

  • I'd stop feeding him grapes altogether, they have been linked to renal failure in lots of mammals.

  • Omg how big is that rat!! what kind of rat is it??!! a giant rat?? i have 2 normal size ones :) but the aren't so well traint as yours... mine only can beg and walk up stairs... can you say how you've learnd him that?? thnks :)

  • LOL! I counted 12 grapes...he's really sweet

  • I got 13 one you didn't see lol

  • And I thought my rats were always hungry. But that is notging compared with yours.
