  • That`s a very nice Locost you have but i don`t get the idea of TC on it. Isn`t it suposed to be a raw machine without any electronical gizmos ?

I want to feel that I am the one in contol .. and even if I spin out or worse .. crash- still .. i know it was my fault .. thats how you learn to control your car and yourself from pushing it over the limit. TC takes that away ...

Anyway .. I admire your car very much.

    Cheers

I would never install TC on any of my cars .. it just spoils the fun.

  • That's a super cool looking car.

  • Haha, funny to see your car when looking at traction control videos

  • i envy your skills and funds :D keep it up

  • wow, one of these days I need a ride alright?

  • @StanceDude You got it. If you see me around get me to take you for a spin.

  • where did you buy the car or find the kit?

  • @StanceDude No kit. Its a home built car. Built the car from scratch in the garage.

  • @StanceDude nice seven peaks lot run btw XD

  • Having TC on this allows him to apply more power and have more fun instead of just spinning out like this every 100 ft. You see how easy it was was for him in a parking lot, I bet his RPM's didnt get past 2500. That car rev's to 9k. he cant lay on the gas in a drag until the end of 2nd gear from the power. This is more than double the power to weight ratio of the Veyron. Think people.

  • @billybarabas1 I'm curious then. If this car has more than twice the power to weight of a Veyron, that must means he's running over 500hp in a Locost. So what kind of engine is he using to get that sort of power?

  • @iiiimagoo SR20det. GT30/76R turbo. E85 flex fuel set-up running 30+ pounds

  • @iiiimagoo You are correct -- most only have the SAME hp-weight ratio as a Veyron. Which probably does have traction control, as do the newer street Ferrari's, and if you believe the rumors, some of NASCAR and F1 cars.

  • @geek49203 The owner is claming 338 WHP with 1,638 pounds. The Veyron claims just shy of 1000 hp (net? certified? at the wheels?) with 4,162 pounds.

  • All of you guys who say TC is bunk need to think what is being controlled. A street legal go-kart with over 400 WHP. No ones skill with their foot can control that kind of power when it comes to drag launches, high speed corners...Since when does your brain detection to foot reaction out perform a computer. How many times does ABS pump a second? Can you other than self pleasuring? (I can BTW)

  • if most of you knew about this traction control system and how it works, you would see why its so good. While you do have your right foot, this is constantly making corrections/cuts. The racelogic reacts as soon as it sees speed difference from the 4 wheel speed sensors. It will always be faster with traction control since it holds the car at its limit almost perfectly. and yes, I do have the racelogic in my car. Its worth every penny!

  • It looks like the car also has an open differential, for a car as light as that,a limited slip would also be a good investment, You'd be able to have even better performance with both TC and LSD together. The diff could maintain traction better with the rear wheels while the TC would only be needed in times of real slip rather than just wheelspin.

  • @Oldbmwr100rs NOPE. Car has a clutch pack limited slip.

  • Traction control should be your right foot in a car like this. why have power if you dont have the talent to control it...

  • @FSPRofLStomP WOW so true. Can't believe even the F1 drivers, who are supposedly the best driers in the world use traction control. We better call up Ferrari and just have FSPRofLSTomP be their driver so they can eliminate that STUPID traction control and just have the best drivers in the world use there right foot.

Cocky people are funny aren't they :-)

  • @juniorrc2003 Your trying compare some of the most expensive cars in the world to a kit car. Note the fact i said in a car like this, a replica of the lotus 7 which im pretty sure didnt come with traction control.

Before you try and look smart trolling perfectly reasonable comment you should probably read it and take a second to yourself to think before you speak.

  • @juniorrc2003 Current F1 cars do not have traction control: "Traction control will be again be outlawed altogether from the start of the 2008 season, when the introduction of standardised ECUs to the cars will make policing the ban far easier than in the past."

  • @juniorrc2003 all driving aids are banned in F1, and have been for more than a while. there aren't any active suspensions, ABS, TCS or anything of the sort in F1. the only adjustments they have are diff lockup, engine map, and brake balance.

  • @bloozmahn A while.......Ummm it hasn't been that long bloozmahn.

Oh hay boozmahn why did they ban TCS again>.... OH YAH. Cause they wanted to slow the cars down to induce more passing. hahahah! Thanks for helping make my point that traction controls DOMINATE the tool bags that say: "just use your right foot".

I think anyone can see boozmahn, my logic is sound.

  • @juniorrc2003 my post was just meant to correct your statement.

if you ask 100 professional racers, they will use whatever will help them win within the rules. period. they don't do it for the fun,

  • @juniorrc2003 actually TCS was banned along with ABS to make things more "pure" and to give less emphasis on electronic aids and technology and more on the driving skill. Of course it's faster, virtually nothing in racing is utilized unless it improves the car in some way, or is mandated by regulations.

oh, and take a deep breath dude.. just relax.

  • I am going to need something like this for my build. Where can I get information on it ??

  • @3593893 It won't let me reply with a link

  • @juniorrc2003

OK so I can't put a link in a response so I put it in the info for the video. Go look at the video info and follow that link.

  • @juniorrc2003 Thanks man. I have not driven one but have seen many and I know they are light and they can be dangerous. Have a 09 corvette as my donor, I want it to be fun but most importantly safe as it will be my daily driver. This sounds like a great addition.

  • @juniorrc2003 well, the locost is essentially the caterham 7 kit car for the united states market.

  • its a good system for a car liek this, a lot of people could use it wiseley in wet/tricky conditions on the road, it keeps the driver safer and people around him/her.

  • Is the TC adjustable? It seems to me like it is a bit too sensetive.. Nice Car!

  • @J1I9M7M4Y Your exactly right. When I filmed this video 2 years ago I hooked it up and let the TC dial in itself. Since then I have become very proficient at tuning the Racelogic boxes with my laptop and have the car dialed in so well now its crazy! That unit really is really sweet.

  • If You haven't got Your own foot traction control, You're a pussy!

  • @TransAmDrifter

I'll remember to tell that to Michael Schumacher that since its in his F1 car.....what a fool this guy is. hahaha

  • @juniorrc2003 If You need TC, You have more power, than skills... that's my opinion.

  • @TransAmDrifter

Now I do agree with your comment. The car dyno'ed 383 WHP on low boost and weights 1638 pounds. At that weight the car is WAY to much for my skills! Thank goodness for products like this for people like myself who are not professional drivers with hundreds of hours of logged track time like Michael Schumacher......but then again, it makes THOSE guys even better.

  • Was kinda hoping the car would take out the guy with the camera. Is that so bad?

  • @Bertziethegreat

    I'm Confused???

  • @Bertziethegreat I was hoping for the same thing

  • Good vid! what is the avg cost of a system like this? is it easy to install?

  • @easycheezy85

Price....Around $1500 just depends where you get it. It is not hard to install or set-up if your car is equipped with ABS. If you don't have ABS then it is a little harder.

  • Check out this YouTube video...

  • Considering a SC'd Honda K24 in my 1600lb Lotus Elise track-only race car (300whp / 200-230lb-ft Tq throughout its power band). Many have been saying... "Too hot to handle. Go NA instead." Is this a viable option? Sounded like it was really taking all your power away? Are you faster with it on or off? Does it take away the fun, or can you dial it in? I know it various presets, but can you go in between those? Are you happy with it?

  • @mcneillmedia NA...boring, the car is crazy 0-100 but after it is not that fast....its a arrow dynamic brick. Faster with it on. It doesn't take away the fun because you can dial in how much slip, aka "fun" you have. I am EXTREMELY happy with it.

  • Reality: Finding out where the limits of your car are over 80mph requires quite a few spins. Nobody has 'the gift'. It's learned like anything else. RL TCS allows you to practice on the edge with confidence, without the tendency to 'Lift' when the car slides a little, which is how most folks lose it in a turn. The goal of this tool is to learn where the edge is safely, and try to get there without the TCS kicking in. A few hundred laps, and some may not need it anymore (except on wet tracks).

  • F1 drivers have had WAY more than a few hundred laps.....why did they not turn there traction control off, aren't they the best?!?!? I want to buy into what your selling here but the rubber is just not hitting the road.

I good driver may not need to use a TCS, your right, but a good driver would be a even better driver with it, can you agree? Well who cares if you agree or not, logic and the F1 racing teams have already spoken I guess. Sorry to be blunt about just pointing out the obvious.

  • Not sure if that was directed at me, but I was agreeing with you. The RL TCS is a great tool and addition to any track car. F1 cars have TCS, but the drivers are SO good, that you rarely hear the engine misfiring BECAUSE they've become so good at throttle control, nailing the sweet spot just before misfire. For them, it's a safety net. Of course you could just 'mash and go', but used correctly, the RL TCS can make you a better track driver (listen for the misfires and back-off till they stop.)

  • Gonna put this in my classic porsche soon. Driving a 100k car and having to worry about eating a guard rail any time you want to have fun sucks. Those that don't get things like this are generally the people I am passing while driving with a big smile on my face. IN other words don't knock it til you tried it. :)

  • Pretty pointless demonstration, going round in circles... an actual track would've been nice, including lap times. Agree with freedan33 on the whole, these types of cars don't need them.

  • STHY14. We tried to demonstrate it on a long corner but found it to hard to show well. This was the only way that the video could capture the sound the motor was making and show it not spinning out. Sorry I'm just a amateur photographer. Maybe Racelogic will come out with a video that is more like what you describe.

AND these types of cars don't need them when they have the original 80 horse motor in them making 50 WHP. Did I mention this one makes 413 whp?

  • Fair point sir, having read racelogic's description I can see who they've marketted it to- "Pulling out of corners without a worry", "full traction of traffic lights" seems like it is actually aimed towards a low skilled driver. I just think the system could catch you of-guard at some point, where you think you have traction but it suddenly breaks- I need to see more to be convinced.

Good video though, it does capture what the system is trying to do quite well.

  • Well said,

I only have 7-8 lap days under my belt. I would consider my self a very low skilled driver. I would not even consider myself even a amateur till I get maybe over 30 track days. Funny thing is when guys with 1-5 track days think they are all star drivers! Look at freedan33......says to learn how to drive properly yet he probably has ZERO track hours. Ignorant people......man they get old!

  • er silly question time- why the hell would you need traction control in a '7' type car? save your money and learn how to drive properly!

  • Your right...silly question. I'll remember to write Porsche and Ferrari and tell them how dumb they are to have traction control too. Then I will write all the drivers in F1 last session and tell them how dumb they are to use it also!

ANYWAY, seriously it makes the car a lot more fun to drive and own. Its great!

  • Hehe, why would you want traction control?

  • Cool, nice looking car. Is it all back together yet?

  • For the most part yes.

  • Gosh...I like the one WITHOUT traction control better! ;-)

  • Nice demonstration JR.
