Television production control rooms don't work that way. If control of the airwaves had been handed over to the Visitors it wouldn't affect the control room program monitor as seen in this scene. That monitor would be receiving the output of their video production switcher. They would only be able to see this Visitor broadcast from an off air return monitor receiving a signal from the local cable or satellite provider.

I was 12 years old when they showed this originally in the Uk. ITV showed it 5 nights in a row in 2 hour episodes in competion with the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles being shown on BBC one & BBC 2. A tv critic may have said one channel has people running and jumping in LA, and the other has the Olympics! but for me it brings back memories of a great show from my childhood. 1984 was the year I started to grow up, it was a special time for me.
