The ancestors of the house of Windsor is the house of Normandy were the viking founder of Normandy Rollo or Gange Rolf from Sunnmøre in western Norway was the ancestor of William the conqueror, wich means that the origins of the british royal line also can be traced to Norway.
@BJHBNE "the viking founder of Normandy Rollo or Gange Rolf from Sunnmøre in western Norway". This is disputed. Some French sources said Rollo was from Denmark. The Danish vikings were infamous for raiding England and France. Some Norwegians were there as well, but main aggressors were the Danes. Norwegian sagas and epics put Rollo in Norway, but French writers put him Denmark. I think scholars came to the conclusion that they will never find out where Rollo was really from.
@flyonthewall37 Both the icelandic and norwegians claim hes from Norway. The Norwegian vikings were also called danes by the english and a norwegian to this day is called a Nordmann in norwegian with a mute d, so its actually sounds like Norman. The Norwegian viking chiefs name also sounds like Rollo unlike the danish guy and since french is a latin laguage Rollo seems natural as nickname for the norwegian nickname of Gange Rolv or (Göngu-Hrólfr). Hes real name was Hrólfr Rögnvaldsson.
@BJHBNE "Both the icelandic and norwegians claim hes from Norway". I'm saying there is dispute is all. You can make claims, but you have to back it up with facts. The Icelandic and Norwegian epics and sagas put him in Norway, or what is now in Norway. But third-party sources (French) put him in Denmark, we have a problem. Who is to say who is correct? Danes and Norwegians were indistinguishable to the foreigners because they spoke same language, the differences between them were tribal.

Very interesting film. My grandfather stood guard at the palace as have several relatives since that time. My grandmother was a young woman of 26 when Håkon, Maud & Olav came to Norway and often heard about those exciting times. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, from my grandmother. So 1/4. She is from a diffrent part of Norway then the rest of my family, there also some knights in that bloodline in the middleage.
I want to check my fathers bloodline(since its the fathers-bloodline that is considered the direct-bloodline..) but i have not done it yet. Its quite some work, but im eager to find out since my hometown was one of the richest in the middleage and viking age, we know a king was raised on a farm not too far away from ours.
@Vikingskog The father isn't the direct line, males take just as much if not more from their mothers line too, it's just that males don't pass it on but they still take it directly from their mitichondrial line.
@Calengela I dont mean in terms of genelogy. When you trace your family, the correct way is to follow the fathers bloodline, since thats where you get your name from, and it was only men who was heir to farms/property and coat of arms and more.
Thats why all proffesionals follow the fathersline, the genology is not important in this case.
Very interesting. I did not know that iceland, faeroese islands, greenland and shetland were owned by Norway. I knew that these islands were settled by the Vikings in former ages.

You are descended from Harald Hardråde? He's my favourite :) I even wrote a thesis about him.

That's so exciting. Pity that I'm not from a royal Norwegian line... or at least Norwegian :)

Ja, på mormor sin side. Men dette er lenge siden da, 1300. Men det er artig alikevel å stamme 1/4 direkte fra den siste norske kongeslekten.
