  • 2:42 The Yggdrasil has a penis vein on it :D

  • You are great :D

  • Incredibly, incredibly interesting stuff! Thanks so much for doing these videos, I can't wait to watch them all!

  • Lodran could be on a tree? Mind = blown :P

  • Ps at 3:49 cuhyooote poooch

  • Not sure why everyone is ripping on jake... what he say about the ring matches the game description ". Since his sores were inflamed by lava from birth, his witch sisters gave him this special ring. But fool that he is, he readily dropped it, and from that spot, a terrible centipede demon was born." no reason why he couldnt have turned into ceaseless either. Btw good vids quelaag, im enjoying them

  • Assuming that The Demon Ruins are at the base of the Yggdrasil, and that Anor Londo is at the top, where do you think that leaves Gwyn and the kiln? If Gwyn kindled the first flame and burned the kiln, could the ashes he created have become the tree? In the prologue sequence you can see that the land is mostly flat and similar to Ash Lake, until Gwyn begins the Age of Fire. I'm guessing that the tree grows from Ash Lake, which is what's left of the Dragon's land, and it is a product of the Age

  • @explorerdock

Ash is a pretty good fertilizer :P

It is why there is often fertile land around volcanoes.

  • @qualaag check out "epicnamebro" channel. just came out with a good lore video. also, are you on reddit? if not join the family /r/darksouls, people reference your videos haha

  • @EpicBucket47 Centipede boss is made of the ring? what? that doesn't even make sense. Ceaseless discharges has his hand/limb missing when you first encounter him, he doesn't agro until you snatch up his dead mothers armor. the missing hand/ limb is the centide demon. "epicnamebro" just came out this dark souls lore video. check that shit out

  • Arcade stick senses tingling, is that one in the background? Hori RAP 3?

  • @UltraTien Yus! For shmups~

  • IMO the sisters are Quelaag, Quelaan, Quelana, crazy bitch outside of Bed of Chaos, Gold Hemmed corpse, Ceaseless Discharge (only attacks you when you defile the grave of her sister), and one other (Maiden in Black?)

  • @UltraTien ceasless is a man, the "Crazy bitch" out side the Bed of Chaos is actually Quelana or Salaman, and the maiden in black has nothing to with pyromancy or chaos at all, btw her name is Beatrice the Rogue Witch

  • @jakeofthedead24 Last time I checked Discharge has no gender and Quelana can't be the Witch outside of Bed of Chaos because you can continue to converse with Quelana AFTER you kill the Witch and Bed of Chaos.

  • @jakeofthedead24 Solomon is male and Quelana can't be the daughter that attacks you before Bed of Chaos because Quelana gives you Chaos Tempest after you kill Bed of Chaos, regardless if that witch lives or dies. Please try harder.

  • @youneverseenthis again it doesnt show rather the witch in front of BoC is Male or Female, if u got proof, then show it

  • @jakeofthedead24 I don't need proof, its clearly the female version of the Gold Hemmed Armor set. And I'm pretty sure Witches are female and not male. GG no re.

  • @youneverseenthis and again who cares rather if im wrong, im saying its MY thought about it, so gtfo

  • @jakeofthedead24 The witches are all female - in the prologue they are refered to as the "Chaos sisters" however from one of the ring descriptions it looks like Izalith MAY have had a son or they knew a male at some point.

  • @Quelaag thats were i was gettin at, i mean they said there so called "Son" was born with chaos, so im thinking its ceasless, since ceasless is the only guess i got

  • @joaoAlmeida15 The centipede is one of Ceaseless Discharges' severed limbs

  • @DrHooligan312 :O! Source?

  • @Quelaag Description on orange charred ring I think (:

  • @DrHooligan312 Nope the centipede boss is made of the ring that lets you walk through lava because the brother of the witches of Izalith was burned and so they gave him the ring he droped it in lava making the centipede boss :) guess though.

  • I believe the person who conjured the idea of the two Izalith Daughters as pillars was me, as I am one of the maniacs who partake of that theory. I have been considering creating my own Dark Souls Lore vids... but a) I don't have a webcam or mic and b) there's not that much different from your (and other) vids, so I'll stick to commenting from the shadows.

  • @HazelrahFirefly I shall link your naaaame~

  • @Quelaag Aw jeez. I didn't mean for you to do that! I'm certainly not a boss when playing Dark Souls (death's all over the place!)

  • @Quelaag : Great video! Honestly I hadn't thought of Yggdrasil. According to the Norse Mythos there was a serpent (Nidhogg) feeding of Yggdrasil, also the Yggdrasil tree is an ash tree ;) It's always cool to see Norse Mythos in video games, and see how the elements fit to the game. Great video, yo

  • Hey does anyone else think the centipede might just be Salaman ?

  • @JoaoAlmeida15 if you look at the desc. of the Orange Charred Ring, u can see that it says a Guy, which imo is the Brother of chaos was born with chaos, and the witch of izalith gave him this ring to not be engulfed with chaos, he dropped the ring into lava and thus created the Centipede Demon, i belive the Brother of Chaos got engulfed by chaos and turned into Cealess, which is guarding the corpse of maybe another Sister?

  • @jakeofthedead24 that makes alot of sense actualy, and would explain wy ceasless goes all crazy the moment you defile his sisters corpse

  • @JoaoAlmeida15 yeah thats what i came up with, its all speculation and watchign some other lore videos

  • Hey Quelaag! Glad to see another video! Looks like you took my suggestion that the "ash" in Ash Lake referred to the trees seriously! Also don't forget that the Eternal Dragon seems to representative of Níðhöggr, the great dragon who gnaws at the roots of Yggdrasil. Also don't forget that Artorias and Sif have more in relation to Sköll and Hati, two mythical wolves that chase the sun and moon, respectively.

  • @MrApol :U Ooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • @MrApol I was under the impression that Sif and Artorias were the same person, or being. Artorias is the human/knight name, and Sif is the Wolf/lost name. I could be forcing my own opinion onto the game, but I thought that Sif was not always a giant white wolf. Hence, the grave that you meet him at - I figured that was his human grave, and somehow (having traversed the abyss perhaps) he lived on after death, as a mutated creature. In his case, a giant white wolf.

  • They need to make souls game more harder since we are getting use to the Souls games. They should start the game at NG++ difficulty you know

  • thats a FFXIII poster in the backround badass

  • RESIDENT EVIL 6! :D

  • Ash

  • LIGHTNING POSTER!!!!

    ....

Aside from that umm... oh yeah, i thought that you said that it was greek mytho that was intergrated into the souls' games. Although there are references to Norse mytho as well (like the tree) unless they draw inspiration from both ... I don't know much/can't recall much about Roman mytho but have you found anything that correlates to it, since these are all like Europe-y regions which you have concluded that Lordran is based upon.

  • Hi. Nice to see you're making more videos Quelaag. I'm about half way through this one (06:07'ish), and I noticed that you're saying that the Norns are from Greek mythology, but you probably meant Norse mythology.

  • @ quelaag heya buddy you should maybe do a video on final fantasy :D

  • @Quelaag

Your videos are awesome but the comments from all these different people(I'm including your comments) are what makes each time i watch one your videos special. This 'community' we have here is just awesome. The lore and inspiration that created this game is what brought us here

  • @Quelaag

I just went back to watch the other video to see, i do kind of see it but yeah the scarf made a difference. And I've missed watching your videos.

  • @TheYaazie ;O; I've missed making videos. So thank you!

  • @Quelaag but there are two Centipede Demons one's a charred carcass hanging on the wall above the item near the first bonfire in Demon Ruins...unless I'm mistaken and that is the Centipede Demon that attacks you.

  • @Cheezis1 There are a lot of smaller centipedes as well - though I'd have to see the size of the one you're referring too. :O

  • @Cheezis1 Do you mean the one hanging on the wall near second bonfire (where all the capra demons are)? Because if so that one disappears after the fight. Pic for proof: imgur(dot)com/AbrVc

  • @Cheezis1 That is the boss, you are correct. The cutscene shows it leaving from that exact location. It be viewed ahead of time by standing at the bonfire (guarded by a regular centipede) and looking toward the large staircase that leads to the Demon Firesage.

  • I love listening to your ideas and analysis :) Some of it is a bit stretched in trying to relate many aspects to other mythologies, though I realize much of it can equate to personal like, the way you say "you like to think of it". However, regardless of what subject you choose to speak about, you always seem to do a fantastic job of articulating what you are trying to communicate. The small drawings help to in an endearing way. MY girlfriend found "chibi nito" to be adorable :)

  • @ganador13 Yeah, most of the stretched stuff are things views have pointed out to me that I thought was rly cool. Like the pillars on the bed of chaos being the two missing daughters, and the 3 fire maidens being like the norns. Aside from that -- oh I forgot to include pictures in the description

  • @ganador13 Anyway - aside from that, all I do is I look at the artistic direction and dig for potential influences. Ash Lake and the "ash trees" supporting the world is definitely 100% inspired by Norse Mythos. Same with Sif's design, the large crows, the giant serpents. All are present within Norse Mythos.

  • @Quelaag I agree, I wish I were as well versed in these other forms of history as you. I replied to your PM btw. I may make a video to explain certain things better since you dont use aim or anything. And text lacks the advantage of tone of voice, expression of hand and face and so on. Leaving much room for misunderstanding :)

  • I like these a lot, I take a lot of what you say & it is very enlightening to the story, I didn't really understand the 4 kings having a piece of the lord souls though, or the function of Darkwraiths, I think that the forest creatures are sort of the embodiment of life in relation to fire, & I think the big animals are kind of the will & strength that it takes to support life.

  • @automaticspaz :U 4 kings were given souls because Gwyn trusted them to guard them. The Darkwraith covenant is "the true covenant of mankind". New Londo was the first real human establishment. It seems to have many mage-type stuff and apparently rivaled Arno Londo in terms of ingenuity etc. But since its humans and magic is ultimately backfires. Anytime humans try to play god it blows up. That was Boletaria's fate as well. :C

  • @Quelaag I wish I had ps3 :'( I never got to experience Demon's Souls, & I was soooooooo jealous when it came out! Yeah I definitely piece it all more & more thanks to your videos but it still takes a lot of attention to piece it together.

  • You look different. Changed your hair?

  • @TheYaazie My hair's been cut since the last video - but I guess I was wearing a scarf. :o Yes.

  • The fire keeper in Anor Londo leaves her spot when you kill Gwynevere or betray the darkmoon covenant and tries to attack you, yet the fire remains lit.. just wanted to point that out

  • Hi

  • @Baller527 Sup

  • @Quelaag I beat Dark Souls. FromSoft need to make a new Souls game now

  • @Baller527 Bahaha, they're busy working on Armored Core V. Woooo.

  • @Quelaag Boooo. New Souls game. Forget Armored Core

  • @Baller527 Bright Souls?

  • @alladoxas Yeah lets name it that and add difficulty settings lol

  • @Baller527 Noooooo. No difficulty settings. :( It was supposed to be called "Dark Race" but they obviously couldn't do that. Then it became "Dark Ring" which is apparently dirty slang in Europe. Then they settled with "Dark Soul" - which made me laff.

  • @Quelaag Yeah i know. I just put that as sarcasm since he said "bright souls" . Sarcasm doesn't get picked up easily in text form

  • @Baller527 Noooooooooo. Nevermind. My point was that instead of ____ souls we should get more creative with the title name if we're making this game. >:O

  • @Quelaag Nah it will throw people off and make people think its something unrelated to the Souls series

  • @Baller527 It'd be funny if they made it Bright Souls and it ended up being the hardest one yet lol.

  • I know all this Greek mythology thanks to Persona 3

  • @Magus322 Haha it was actually Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne that got me interested in mythology when I was 14. :)

  • I love dark souls. :3

  • What age are you?, if you dont mind

  • @Magus322 :C 21. Its the braces if you think I'm younger.

  • @Quelaag Yeah thats it :P, though your not much older than me.

  • The only issue I might have w/ the "3" firekeepers is that there apparently have been others as we find firekeeper souls throughout the world. It just suggests that there have been others and how would they fit into this idea? even some of the existing ones can be killed. I suppose that doesn't preclude the 3 female keepers from being a reference to the fates or whatever, it just seems unlikely for my personal view of it.

  • @stolenrims Yeah, its definitely a bit shaky as far as theories go, but I thought it was an interesting observation by someone. It could be the product of people like Lutec -- or however is name is spelled -- where he travels around killing fire maidens. Who knows?

  • Oh snap, a new Quelaag vid : x

What kind of folklore would you like to see if they made another "Souls" game? Me personally, i would like if they pushed more Christian allegory as their story. I like the idea of a Heaven and Hell type factions fighting each other for superiority (Kind of like the Lords and the eternal dragons in Drk S.). Maybe Npc's pick sides between "heaven' and "hell" and can form covenants that supports that faction. Maybe neutral ground(earth?) can be used as a hub?

  • @GuerrillaFrilla I think that's the reason why I like that they pulled from greek / roman / norse / shinto mythos - its not as "black and white" in terms of morality. That's something they've always strived for with the souls series. Honestly I would love to see more Pagan-Egyptian-type stuff in terms of the lore. Not artistically, but I loved the idea of the Adjudicator and it was very much like Egyptian mythos. I'd also like to see their approach artistically to Balinese myth/barong

  • Aww yee.

  • @nubstopable Jack, you're always the first person to comment on my videos. It blows my mind.

  • @Quelaag I guess I'm just lucky. :3

I just kinda did a random browser sweep of everything and noticed you posted this. xD
