@DocUnsane Two different beliefs. Every year or so, a few Christian ministries "announce" a date for judgment day and the end the world--it's a successful tactic in recruiting new followers/members. The 2012 meme is based on the end-date of the 5000+ year Mesoamerican long count calendar. It's meaning and function is related only to Mayan creation mythology, where the calendar counts from the date of creation to the date of the next creation.
