You forgot to mention that one should previously arrange with the opponent not to do anything while you are sweeping... This just does not work! First thing to defend this awful sweep is grab your gi tight on the neck so you won't spin in. Then kneel inside your thigh, you're not going anywhere now!
Come down to Rio and try this sweep, please. That's gonna be fun!
is it easy to go upside down like that i usually end up in the north south possition but again i just started training what should do not to end up in the north south position
Everyone in Brazil calls this a reverse half-guard sweep, and, as a matter of fact, we never call anything reversed De La Riva... I don't think it shares much in common with the Berimbolo sweep to call it a reversed version. Don't get me wrong, I like this technique a lot and it is pretty common where I train (here in Rio), but I don't get the "new" name for this...
Very high percentage sweep once you master the position. I hit this sweep at every class. It's also very difficult to pass your guard if you have a good reverse DLR. thanks for the video!
Ed Ramos and ATOS have a sweep called the kiss of the dragon that is set up the same way, but isn't what you finished with. They invert between the legs and pull the knee to their chest. They pull you down by the belt and then sweep to the back. They also have one called kiss of tiger where they invert and triangle the far leg to sweep and come up to the back. I like this spiral sweep a lot though. Especially for no gi.
@countingconflict Yes...this is how the sweep is shown in almost all of the videos out there...but I wanted to give a different perspective because from my experience at the high level (brown and black belt) most people won't let you just get their back. They either do certain things to try to stop you and get swept instead, or they just concede the sweep to not give up there back. Also I didn't show the sweep when someone was standing. It's easier to attack the back when they are standing.

@jasculs Yeah I can see this really working out when people squat down on your reverse de la Riva to shut it down. Slick execution. I like it a lot.
