@daniellma Hi Mark, The original '88 Murray mower deck was in bad shape. The future mower project will not require a speed control for the permanent magnet motor. 48V will give a fixed 3600 rpm, perfect for the mower and the variable ratio transmission. The GE Elek-Trak was equipped as you suggest using shunt-wound motors for the mower deck.
@ils360 This project is just a yard tractor without a mower. The early 60s series wound motor was not suitable for running a mower. I have another riding mower and an Etek permanent magnet motor that I plan to build up as an electric mower.

ah...progress, wonderful project. If you did eventually use it as a mower, why
not just use another motor for the deck...constant speed (adjustable, no doubt)
but self-contained. Keep up the great work!

@enganear you should make it fast but then you can go to 1 gear and use it for work i think that would be cool just an idea
