he plays great but his elbow comes too far up when he does some of those passages...however--great players never stay within confines of rules..and "properness"
@Gmail8589934591 Well, easy is relative. I'm working towards a Trinity College diploma on my cello at the moment and this is one of my pieces. There has to be a certain degree of difficulty for them to decide to put it on the syllabus at that level.
@numynut Good. Music isn't about the difficulty level. It's never easy or you are doing it wrong. It's about what you put into it. A solo with one note has the potential to sound more appealing than one with one thousand notes. It's all about the emotion you convey with it and simpler pieces typically require more emotion.
If I simply listened to this, I wouldn't have thought much of it, but watching this man perform it has enthralled me to the point of watching this over and over again.
@faithrohde2 Post a video.....I agree there is a technique, one that takes years of practice to master. To say this is "not hard" is pretty arrogant, there are only a few people who can play this perfectly on a Cello.
@NorrisChuckling In an interview he had, he is fairly comical and says he started playing cello late by Soviet standards (He was born in Latvia). He explains that he started playing the year he quit smoking... which was age 8 lol
Read the interview, you'll get a kick out of it. Google: "ICS Conversation with Mischa Maisky"
@TheSideflip play it really really slow. And then get faster and faster till you get to full speed. Do this for like 30 minutes every day you'll totally own your dick of a teacher.
I would not be suprised to see Mr. Stallone in the audience, but he is decidedly Italian in appearance, and this genius and virtuoso, who now comes to approach Starker as he takes us through the breathing and heart rates of Bach and his astonishing movement after movement on these strings and excercises over the parallels, must be a Russian champion!
I notice this video only after performing it! Surprisingly I share one similar treatment of the notes. On the other hand, I feel exhausted in my right arm during practice and worry so much that I could not perform it.
This guy is awesome. I have to point something out though. He looks like Sylvester Stallone. Seriously, imaging him getting up from playing and then out comes the rocky voice!! Sorry, I had to say it. Bach is great and so is this guy :)
@MahSchoolworkMusic This is a fucking exercise. I played this and the bouree for state last year and i was fucking sweating!!!. BACH ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Zapalta You're right about the workout on any instrument, I tried to play this on the triangle but gave up when i finally realised there were not enough sides and forget the vibrato it just didn't go :)
Maisky is absolutely brilliant on his chosen instrument though!!
i think youre really lying jacob. why dont you post a video of youre playing? i would like to hear. considering it took me 3 years to master the 1st suite.
Talent is oversestimated. From my experience, it's something like:
talent 30%
practice 70%
Point being, somebody with talent who doesn't practice many hours every day is gonna be worse than a no-talent guy who has the patience to practice correctly.
@The13reeze for me it's like practice 10% luck 30% talent 60% and im a cellist im not dissagreeing your right but im bad at remembering to practice XD
Definitely a great performance and piece. If I tried playing it, though, you would probably want to scrape your nails on a chackboard to cover it with a more soothing sound. This guy, though, makes it look so easy. And you have to admit, he does kind of look like a dwarf.
This is amazing...so beautiful...I've just begun Suite 3 and this guy has just blown me away. Now I doubt that I can do it, lol, I will never be able to match this amazing quality and high standard. Very beautiful. Hats off to you, sir/
His bowings are HARD... and he makes them look effortless. This guy was in a labour camp for a year as well.. must give you the drive to succeed more than anything.
wow. he makes seem so.. easy. well bach was a genious and he had an outstanding view on music, outsanding or profound seem like under statments though
Mischa makes this an incredibly compelling piece. I only wish I could get this suite up to sounding something close to this. There's just something about this interpretation that I like a lot. I have a lot of respect for Mischa Maisky's playing (as well as the 'fro). Great video.
Excuse me? I'm working on all the Bach suites and I can't even play Suite no. 3 prelude right!!! I play in one of the best 7th grade orchestras in the USA. We play high school music. If I could play this I would be a prodigy. This is Bach. If you say its grade 4 or 5 then post a video of you playing it since your 14.
