A lot of the concepts for these Singapore Opening Ceremonies were copied straight from previous Olympic Ceremonies....I see a lot of Sydney, Torino, Beijing, and Salt Lake in this show. Even the arrival of the Olympic flame is a bit similar to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony baton relay.
@PedoJay He has no reason to be, he's just stating what's true.
Things happening in the world right now are mostly derivative. Given what we have right now, be it technology, finance, experience etc. most things are basically derivative.
He did mention it was great, just not original, which is true anyway.
What matters most was that those that participated, made things happen for those who participated in it. It was a fun ride =)

Olympics Prez J Rogge described the village as "first class. This is the 22nd village I visited, since my first Olympic Games in 1968 so I can compare, and this is really in the top league of the Olympic villages".4-time Olympic medallist sprinter Franki Frederick said that all the best youth athletes in the world want to represent their country at the YOG so "it's no wonder they're setting new records." Internationale de Gymanastique Prez Bruno Grandi said "the YOG level is extremely high."
"The Youth Olympics Games Int Olympics Comm president Jacques Rogge , was very happy with the tv coverage and YouTube hits in so many countries with 166 broadcasters, exclaiming,"It was the? 3rd most-watched item on Youtube in the world..that's something!" . 205 Countries participated, and newspapers and TV channels in Asia , Europe and the West caught the resounding success of the Opening Ceremony in Singapore held @ the Marina Barrage. One Australian tabloid posed," Could we do this?"
is it possible some pseudo-singaporeans with lots of frustrations to vent is using yog here to air their state in life in singapore. in mm early days, he mentioned how how very vile malaysians who came to singapore and used singapore as a base to stir hatred against amongst the different races in singapore.
today, it appears this hatred is revived and has gone beyond just races and religions alone.
singaporeans, wake up and do not let these aliens destroy your homeland forever.
Let me say this straight cause I am not a full fledge Singaporean, I'm a Malaysian and as much as I am patriotic to my country Malaysia, I still thank Singapore for bringing me up to the person I am now and for porviding me with a safe country to live where I may not fear of being robbed, killed or harassed. Whatever comments any haters will say after my comment right now will not deter the never ending support and patriotism that I and most of us fellow countrymen have.
Just not that happy about the stage being too small to fit all the competitors ; notice that each nation is just being represented by the flag bearer that is one 'innovation' that I am not really happy about........
Well, its a bit small for the YOG, but it is still the world's largest floating platform...
Furthermore, the National Stadium was slatted for demolition to make way for a new Stadium Hub which will only complete in 2013~2014. But then, I think this is one of the best opening ceremony that ditches the conventional olympic opening ceremony. To me, it looks much more interesting with the backdrop of the city skyscrapers. The fireworks looked awesome too! =)
@willyu1 french aside from English has a larger speaking community compared to other languages. Furthermore it is also the first language to be spoken by the world and it also has a highest honor as a language... this can be seen from the speech given by the person in charge of the various event that is major and involve world wide.
That is one sick flame, and one sick nation. Glad to see my home nation do so well in the first EVER YOG. Maybe your kids will be in one of these, but you know you witnessed the very first one.
How can you even compare this lame show with those ceremonies? The world viewing audience was in the 15-30 million rage for Singapore, were as in Beijing it was around 4 billion. I even heard people leaving this ceremony early because it was so boring!
@Mackey164 you may find it lame or whatsoever. But at least Singaporeans has a show to call their own. Does your country have any international showcase that you can be proud of? Or to put it more directly, does your country has any international showcase that you would like to compare to Singapore's? It defeats the purpose of you bringing other countries into the picture but end up forgetting yourself. I admit I sounded proud but that's because I have something that I can be proud of.
Well I think I can be pretty proud of Vancouver 2010 as I am Canadian. I was simply replying to the uneducated comment made by makkutottu stating Singapore's opening was the best in Olympic history when it was so clearly not.

@Hawkeish Actually yah. I think "I declare the Youth Olympic Games, Singapore. Opened." Sounds better for me. But i don't think his speaking broken language.
really impressed with the lighting of the torch. the entrance of the phoenix boat was cool (plus the 'water' wings), the relay was beautiful (esp when the last bearer was running across the water stage) and that tornado-like flame was just plain awesome!

in his welcoming speech, why was the chinese man welcoming people in french which is not one of yhe four official languages of singapore?
china, india and malaysia sent a big team to this yog.

what happen to the languages of china and india and the middle east civiliasations - these civiliasations go back 5000 years in some cases.
latin would be the first language of the west, wouldn't you say so.
of course, i stand corrected.
but you are quite right to suggest french is also quite widely spoken in the world.
i will also agree with you if you have said it is one of the most language in the wolrd.

I don't how some ppl compare between beijing and singapore
beijing was a summer games thats mean the biggest event in the whole world
with long history
but singapore organized a very first time event with a lot of expectations and small budjet from IOC
so compare it with the next youth games not with a summer games its unfair
its kinda silly comparison

most participant in yog thought their cultures were stolen from thier countries in this yog.
you are not alone on this thought.
don't know which part of this yog ceremony belongs truly to singapore.
so disappointing !
was it french the chinese man was speaking?
didn't sound like any french spoken around the the french world from paris to ethiopia.
very good try though - but sad for the chinese, indians and others who were at yog and whose languages are official in singapore.

@Mackey164 , if not "stolen bits (of) other cermonies, does this yog have a show at all?
of course you're right as many yog participants think many dances and performances are originally from their countries - not sinagpore .
maybe the pyros are new but they looked skimpy and too cheap to cost millions.
forget this yog and watch the new delhi commonwealth or the guanchou china asia games later this month and next, respectively.
am sure this yog will fade out in memoriy lane.
