  • Youth Day is on Sunday! YOG!! My school has swimming carnival!!!

  • the first thing i notice at 0:00 - 0:04 was the bahamain flag

    GO BAHAMAS!!!!!!!

  • Amazing Olympic fire fireworks.

  • so many videos to recap. whr do i start from? hehe

  • @benzrulez1969 Same dude, same.

  • Question?? How come the Youth Olympics was never broadcast on Television, and it didn't even appear on the Newspaper?

  • A lot of the concepts for these Singapore Opening Ceremonies were copied straight from previous Olympic Ceremonies....I see a lot of Sydney, Torino, Beijing, and Salt Lake in this show. Even the arrival of the Olympic flame is a bit similar to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony baton relay.

Was it a great show? Yes. Was it original? No.

  • @vancouverite1989 You're just plain jealous.

  • @PedoJay He has no reason to be, he's just stating what's true.

Things happening in the world right now are mostly derivative. Given what we have right now, be it technology, finance, experience etc. most things are basically derivative.

He did mention it was great, just not original, which is true anyway.

What matters most was that those that participated, made things happen for those who participated in it. It was a fun ride =)

  • Olympics Prez J Rogge described the village as "first class. This is the 22nd village I visited, since my first Olympic Games in 1968 so I can compare, and this is really in the top league of the Olympic villages".4-time Olympic medallist sprinter Franki Frederick said that all the best youth athletes in the world want to represent their country at the YOG so "it's no wonder they're setting new records." Internationale de Gymanastique Prez Bruno Grandi said "the YOG level is extremely high."

  • "The Youth Olympics Games Int Olympics Comm president Jacques Rogge , was very happy with the tv coverage and YouTube hits in so many countries with 166 broadcasters, exclaiming,"It was the? 3rd most-watched item on Youtube in the world..that's something!" . 205 Countries participated, and newspapers and TV channels in Asia , Europe and the West caught the resounding success of the Opening Ceremony in Singapore held @ the Marina Barrage. One Australian tabloid posed," Could we do this?"

  • this is truly memorable IMO. great job, singapura!!!

  • There is no use to compare which is better, there is more use in sharing and respecting regardless which is better.

  • Let me say this straight cause I am not a full fledge Singaporean, I'm a Malaysian and as much as I am patriotic to my country Malaysia, I still thank Singapore for bringing me up to the person I am now and for porviding me with a safe country to live where I may not fear of being robbed, killed or harassed. Whatever comments any haters will say after my comment right now will not deter the never ending support and patriotism that I and most of us fellow countrymen have.

  • At least Singapore is way more Advanced than most countries in Asia

  • Fuck all the haters of the yog games--

Talk only if you can do better

And if you reply to this comment,I will only regard ur words as shit

  • Just not that happy about the stage being too small to fit all the competitors ; notice that each nation is just being represented by the flag bearer that is one 'innovation' that I am not really happy about........

  • @jasion1983

Well, its a bit small for the YOG, but it is still the world's largest floating platform...

Furthermore, the National Stadium was slatted for demolition to make way for a new Stadium Hub which will only complete in 2013~2014. But then, I think this is one of the best opening ceremony that ditches the conventional olympic opening ceremony. To me, it looks much more interesting with the backdrop of the city skyscrapers. The fireworks looked awesome too! =)

  • in his welcoming speech, why was the chinese man welcoming people in french which is not one of yhe four official languages of singapore?

china, india and malaysia sent a big team to this yog.

could he not have used one these countries' languages which are official languages of singapore besides english?

  • @willyu1 french aside from English has a larger speaking community compared to other languages. Furthermore it is also the first language to be spoken by the world and it also has a highest honor as a language... this can be seen from the speech given by the person in charge of the various event that is major and involve world wide.

  • @lalasheng

what happen to the languages of china and india and the middle east civiliasations - these civiliasations go back 5000 years in some cases.

latin would be the first language of the west, wouldn't you say so.

    of course, i stand corrected.

but you are quite right to suggest french is also quite widely spoken in the world.

i will also agree with you if you have said it is one of the most language in the wolrd.

    parlez vous francais, lalasheng

  • so colourful

  • so proud of this YOG! this YOG also made me proud to be part of this small country-SINGAPORE!!

  • can you upload the complete parade of nations please.

  • can anybody tell me what is the short little fanfare at the start called? i am in love with the tune!

  • That is one sick flame, and one sick nation. Glad to see my home nation do so well in the first EVER YOG. Maybe your kids will be in one of these, but you know you witnessed the very first one.

  • I don't how some ppl compare between beijing and singapore

beijing was a summer games thats mean the biggest event in the whole world

    with long history

but singapore organized a very first time event with a lot of expectations and small budjet from IOC

so compare it with the next youth games not with a summer games its unfair

    its kinda silly comparison

  • Way better than Beijing, Turin and Sidney and Vancouver... simply BREATHTAKING!! That was awesome! LONG LIVE SINGAPORE!

  • @Mackey164 you may find it lame or whatsoever. But at least Singaporeans has a show to call their own. Does your country have any international showcase that you can be proud of? Or to put it more directly, does your country has any international showcase that you would like to compare to Singapore's? It defeats the purpose of you bringing other countries into the picture but end up forgetting yourself. I admit I sounded proud but that's because I have something that I can be proud of.

  • @brainmoree

Well I think I can be pretty proud of Vancouver 2010 as I am Canadian. I was simply replying to the uneducated comment made by makkutottu stating Singapore's opening was the best in Olympic history when it was so clearly not.

  • Go check out how Barcelona 1992 lit their couldron

  • i love the olympics and this is great! for a youth olympics anyway...lol...but i must say that is my favorit torch of all the olympic games

  • The Fireworks is fantastic

  • Seriously... Why must they cut so many things but not cut the speech. -_-...... Totally LOVE the torch thing! =D

  • @XstarlandiX ROFL! yeah I totally agree. everything else was cut except the speech. lol.

  • i think the lighting ceremony is really beautiful, especially the part where the boy ran across the pool and love the fire vortex

  • one word: BREATHTAKING!!!

  • The hole thing was pretty much stolen from bits of other ceremonies.

  • @Mackey164 Duh! Learning the things from different places improves the performance. =D

  • @XstarlandiX I was trying to say there was little originality.

  • @thai9001 Which part of "enjoy the games" that you do not understand. Someone invites you to their home and you were filled with disgust even knowing that the host has already worked hard in making the most to your satisfaction. Think again before you say those hurtful words and I'm sure that no other games which you have said would want to compare theirs with this cause they at least know the meaning of respect and tolerance.

  • The president just speak broken english it should be opening

  • @Hawkeish you're mistaken.

  • @Hawkeish Actually yah. I think "I declare the Youth Olympic Games, Singapore. Opened." Sounds better for me. But i don't think his speaking broken language.

  • wow!

  • Is there anywhere i can get the full program without all the cuts

  • Fabulous fireworks at the end... Nothing else

  • It is too bad that the full opening ceremony can only be viewed in Singapore.

(Have tried the link in xinmsn.com, but as I am currently in London, it won't allow me to watch)

  • speeches should be more short, the audience are teenagers

  • for the singaporean it was great show>>>>>>> in philippines astig!!!

  • darren choy steady steady~! xD

  • nothing new or great!

  • really impressed with the lighting of the torch. the entrance of the phoenix boat was cool (plus the 'water' wings), the relay was beautiful (esp when the last bearer was running across the water stage) and that tornado-like flame was just plain awesome!

    well done singapore!

  • Go Darren!

  • this is the best olympic flame lighting ceremony ever. it were transported over the Marina Reservoir. The front were escorted by dragon boats...

The last torch bearer Darren were running over water. the lighting was awesome

  • 8:27

did i hear right? hockey? i thought that was a winter sport?

  • @soccergirl924 Yep. But not ice hockey.

  • how worst this event ... no facility to view the latest result and medal tally...hahaha

  • @citrusgx haha this is YOG kays not ur fancy olympic

  • 12:00 The moment we've worked so hard for .

  • The torch bearer's final stretch across the water was an absolutely fantastic scene. Congratulations to Singapore, and cheers to a great Youth Olympic Games!
